Triumph NT-11: 11,000 lbs under a 116-inch ceiling

Capacity and height usually move together on a two-post lift, and that is a problem for anybody whose building has a low roof, a mezzanine, a beam or a set of sprinkler heads in the wrong place. The NT-11 is interesting because it separates the two: it is rated at 11,000 lbs and the whole structure stands 116 inches overall. If your bay has ruled out a heavy two-post on height alone, this is the specification to check first.

The rest follows a heavy-duty brief. It runs on 220V, the pads reach 72 inches, there is 102 inches of drive-through between the carriages and 112 inches between the posts, and it ships at 2,000 lbs — which tells you something about how much steel is in it. It is aimed at workshops that see everything from passenger cars to heavier trucks and SUVs through the same door.

Will It Fit?

All of the numbers below are Triumph's. Measuring your own building against them is your responsibility, and it is the step that prevents the expensive kind of surprise.

• Ceiling. 116 inches overall for the lift itself. Remember you still need clearance for the tallest vehicle you intend to raise, so measure the roof of your own van or truck rather than assuming from the lift figure.
• Floor width. 138 inches overall, with 112 inches between the posts — 9 ft. Add room to open a car door on at least one side.
• Drive-through. 102 inches, or 8.5 ft, between the carriages. That is the figure that decides whether a wide pickup goes straight in.
• Working height. 72 inches at the pads, which is 6 ft, and 68 inches of rise under the arms.
• Loading. Lowered height is 4-1/2 inches, so low cars go over the arms without a run-up.
• Power. 220V. Get the circuit run before delivery rather than after.
• Foundation. The slab specification and the anchoring procedure are in Triumph's own spec sheet for this model, linked on this page. We are not going to quote a concrete thickness we cannot source for this particular lift — read the document and, if you are not certain what your floor is, find out before the crate arrives.

Why the height figure is the one to compare

Ceiling height is the constraint that quietly decides most two-post purchases, and it does it late — usually after somebody has fallen for a lift on capacity and price. A lift that is too tall for the building cannot be fixed by any amount of goodwill: it is a return, a restocking argument and a freight bill in both directions. Working the other way round, starting from the number you actually have above your floor, turns the purchase into a short list instead of a gamble. At 116 inches, this one clears a lot of buildings that a taller structure will not.

The corollary is worth saying plainly. A lower overall structure and a 72-inch pad height means the vehicle goes up to a working height, not to the maximum height physics allows. For most service work — brakes, exhausts, suspension, fluids, inspection — 72 inches is comfortable standing room under the car, and the extra few inches a taller lift offers is not what you are paying for anyway.

Built heavy, and shipped that way

2,000 lbs of shipping weight is a specification in its own right on a two-post. Steel section, column wall thickness and carriage mass are what carry an 11,000 lb rating over years of daily cycling rather than over a single test load, and there is no way to build that lightly. Plan the delivery accordingly — this is a crate that needs real equipment to unload, not four people and optimism.

Here is why it matters rather than why it sounds bad. Some commercial insurance policies, some fleet and municipal maintenance contracts, and some local building or fire code officials specifically require that shop lifting equipment carry an independent safety listing. Most home garages and a great many independent shops are under no such requirement at all. Two practical points decide whether the delivery day is uneventful. The first is unloading: somebody at the receiving end has to get the crate off the back of the truck. A forklift, a tractor with forks, or a telehandler will do it. If none of that is available to you, choose warehouse pickup instead and collect the crate on a trailer, because the freight terminal has the equipment to load you. The second is the address type. A delivery to a home is handled differently from a delivery to a commercial address and carries a residential fee, so tell us which one it is when you order rather than sorting it out on the doorstep.

Inspect the shipment before you sign for it. Walk the crate, look for punctures, crushed corners and shifted banding, and write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived intact, and it is very hard to argue with afterwards. Photographs taken at the tailgate are worth far more than photographs taken in the garage an hour later.
