Triumph C-7000: a two-post lift with no equalisation cables

Almost every two-post lift on the market is tied together by an equalisation cable running between the columns, and that cable is what fixes the distance between them for the life of the installation. The C-7000 does not have one. Because there is no cable to span, the columns can be set anywhere from 48 inches to 120 inches apart, centre to centre — you position them to suit the vehicle and the building rather than positioning the building around the lift.

The same design is what makes it portable in a way a conventional two-post is not. One operator can take the whole lift down and stow it in under ten minutes, so a single garage bay can be a lift bay this afternoon and a clear floor this evening. Will It Fit?

The adjustable width makes this lift fit more buildings than most, but it does not make measuring optional. Every figure below is Triumph's, and checking them against your own space is your responsibility.

• Ceiling. The lift stands 7 ft 11 inches overall. That is low enough for a great many domestic garages that will never take a full-height two-post, but you still need the height of the vehicle you are raising underneath the top of its travel.
• Column spacing. Anywhere from 48 inches to 120 inches, centre to centre. Set narrow for a small car in a tight bay, set wide for a pickup or to clear an obstruction — and change your mind later, which is not something you can do with a cabled lift.
• Working height. Lifting height is 69 inches at the pad, with 65 inches of rise under the arms.
• Loading. Lowered arm clearance is 4.5 inches, so a low car goes over the arms without ramps or timber.
• Power. 110V. No dedicated circuit, no electrician to book, which matters a great deal if the lift is going into a rented unit or a domestic garage.
• Floor. A portable lift still transfers its load into whatever it stands on. Read Triumph's manual, linked on this page, on floor requirements and on anchoring for your intended use before delivery — this is the question to settle first, not last.

What "portable" buys you

Portability on a lift is usually marketing, and here it is a specific claim with a specific consequence: disassembled and stored in less than ten minutes by one person. That changes who can own a two-post. A tenant who cannot make a permanent installation, a mobile technician working at customer sites, a shared workshop, a garage that has to hold a car and a lift and a lawnmower — none of those are candidates for a conventional lift and all of them are candidates for this one.

The trade-off is honest and worth stating: a lift that can be struck in ten minutes is a lift that is assembled by hand every time it is set up, and the discipline of setting it up correctly falls on the operator every single time rather than once on installation day. Welded steel and an automatic locking ladder

The structure is welded steel rather than bolted sections, and the safety system is an automatic locking ladder: as a carriage rises, the lock steps up the ladder and engages on its own, so the lift is holding on mechanical latches rather than on hydraulic pressure the whole way up. There is nothing to remember and nothing to set. On a lift that gets assembled and reassembled, an automatic lock is a materially better idea than one that depends on an operator doing something extra at the top of the stroke.

Truck adapters are included — 3 inches and 6 inches of pad extension — which is what lets the arms reach the frame rail on a pickup or an SUV that sits high without stacking anything under the pad.

Two practical points decide whether the delivery day is uneventful. The first is unloading: somebody at the receiving end has to get the crate off the back of the truck. A forklift, a tractor with forks, or a telehandler will do it. If none of that is available to you, choose warehouse pickup instead and collect the crate on a trailer, because the freight terminal has the equipment to load you. The second is the address type. A delivery to a home is handled differently from a delivery to a commercial address and carries a residential fee, so tell us which one it is when you order rather than sorting it out on the doorstep.

Inspect the shipment before you sign for it. Walk the crate, look for punctures, crushed corners and shifted banding, and write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived intact, and it is very hard to argue with afterwards. Photographs taken at the tailgate are worth far more than photographs taken in the garage an hour later.
