Valor VP8K-B: the same 8,000 lb chassis, with the accessories deliberately left off

Read the last line of this lift's own feature list and you have the product: no caster kit, no drip trays, no jack tray. The VP8K-B is the stripped configuration of a four-post storage lift - the columns, the carriages, the runways, the cables, the locks and the steel approach ramps, and nothing else. Everything structural is there. The convenience kit is not.

That is a legitimate way to buy a lift, and for some buyers it is the right one. But it deserves to be stated in the first paragraph rather than buried, because the difference between this model and the deluxe version is not a difference in capacity, dimensions or safety. It is a difference in what turns up on the pallet.

What you give up, concretely

• No poly caster kit. The lift stays where you build it. A caster kit is what lets a four-post be rolled aside when the bay is needed for something else - without it, treat the position you choose as permanent.
• No drip trays. Nothing catches what falls from the vehicle parked above. On a stored project car with a weeping sump or gearbox, that lands on the vehicle below or on your slab.
• No jack tray. No provision for a sliding bridge jack across the runways, so wheels-free work - brakes, suspension, tyres - is not on the menu. This is a lift for storing and getting underneath, not for lifting the wheels of the vehicle that is already up.

None of that is a fault. If you already own a jack, your floor is sealed and the lift is going into a permanent spot, you are paying for steel rather than for accessories you would set aside. The deluxe version of the same lift ships noticeably heavier than this one's 1,545 lb precisely because those trays and casters are in the crate. Buy on the basis of which list you actually need.

The chassis, in numbers

Capacity is 8,000 lb. The runways rise to 74.8″ at the top, on columns of 86″, giving 70″ of clearance underneath. Overall length is 207.3″ with the approach ramps in place - one of our other fields rounds that to 207″ - and 175-1/2″ for the lift structure by itself. Overall width is 103-1/2″, with 94.4″ between the columns and 80″ of drive-through width.

The runways are 18.7″ across the tread and sit 37.2″ apart, measuring 74.8″ from outside edge to outside edge, and they stand 4.3″ off the floor when fully lowered. Locking positions come every 10″ up the columns, and each base plate is 10″ x 12″ where the load meets your floor.

Will It Fit? The checklist

• Length. 207.3″ with ramps down; 175-1/2″ without them.
• Width. 103-1/2″ overall, plus room to walk and to site the power unit.
• Ceiling. 86″ of column, then add the height of whatever parks on top. Check for door tracks and opener rails as well as the roof itself.
• Underneath. 70″ clear below the runways - measure the lower vehicle at its highest point.
• Door opening. 94.4″ between columns.
• Approach. 4.3″ runway height when down, which is what a low front splitter has to clear.
• Power. 115V at 20 Amp, single phase - an ordinary circuit rather than a three-phase supply, which for a home garage often means no electrical work at all.
• Slab. The base plates concentrate the load into four 10″ x 12″ footprints. Our data for this model states no minimum slab thickness or compressive strength, and we are not going to make one up; ask us and we will get the manufacturer's requirement in writing before you order.

How it holds the load up

The lift is cable driven with a single-point manual lock release - all four locks come off together at one control rather than being worked column by column, which removes the scenario where a lift starts down on three locks while somebody is still at the fourth. With locking positions every 10″, the lift can rest at a working height on steel rather than sitting on hydraulic pressure, and that is how a four-post should be parked.

Slack cable safety covers the case nobody plans around. A cable that stretches, jumps a sheave or fails stops holding the load where the geometry assumes it is; the mechanism detects that slack condition instead of letting the carriage continue. Steel approach ramps are included - they are structural, not an accessory, and they are on this model.

• Permanent installations - a garage or workshop where the lift goes in one place and stays there.
• Buyers who already own a jack and jack stands and would not use a jack tray.
• Dry storage of a vehicle that does not drip, over a sealed or coated floor.
• Budget-led purchases where the money is better spent on the structure than on a convenience kit.

If any of those descriptions does not fit you, look at the deluxe configuration of the same lift instead. It is cheaper to buy the trays with the lift than to solve the problem afterwards.

Our record for this lift claims no independent third-party safety listing and we will not suggest one exists. This is worth settling before you buy rather than after: insurers, fleet policies and some local building or workplace authorities can require a vehicle lift to hold a recognised independent listing, and a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity is a different animal from an independent laboratory's certificate. Shipping and delivery

Shipped as freight within the lower 48, with the cost quoted live against your delivery address at checkout instead of being estimated beforehand. At 1,545 lb it is the lightest configuration in this family, but it is still a long, heavy consignment of columns, runways and ramps. Unloading is down to the receiver: a forklift on site capable of handling a runway crate, or a collection you book at the carrier's terminal. Terminal collection is usually the better plan for a residential address, since terminals have docks and driveways do not. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout when selected.

Inspect the shipment before you sign for it. Check the runway edges for bends, the column feet and ramp ends for crush damage, count everything against the paperwork, and look for cut banding or oil marks. Record anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is present and take photographs. A clean signature is what the carrier will rely on later, and freight damage is not a warranty claim.

Warranty

The manufacturer's limited warranty runs longer on structural components than on parts and is subject to normal use and to exclusions for wear items.
