Tuxedo SJ-35 Sliding Jack

Most accessories for a four-post lift are sold to fit exactly one manufacturer's rails. The SJ-35 is built the other way round: adjustable sliders and a base that adjusts from 30.90" to 45.70" let this 3,500 lb jack span the rails on Tuxedo's own 8,000 lb four-post storage lifts and on most other brands of four-post lift. If you already own a lift, or you expect to change lifts before you change jacks, that adjustable base is the specification that decides whether this purchase survives the next change in your shop.

What a sliding jack does for a drive-on lift

A four-post lift holds a car on its own tires. That is exactly what you want for storage, exhaust and general underbody work, and exactly what you do not want the moment a wheel has to come off. A sliding jack bridges the two runways, slides along them to the axle you are working on, and raises that end of the vehicle clear of the deck so the wheels hang free. Brakes, hubs, suspension and tire work all become possible on a lift that was never designed for them, and the jack stows out of the way when the lift goes back to being a lift.

Three lock positions, and why they matter more than the capacity

The SJ-35 carries three locking positions. Locks and hydraulics do different jobs and it is worth being clear about which is which: hydraulics raise the load, and a mechanical lock is what holds it there. Working under a load supported only by hydraulic pressure is the habit that turns a small seal failure into a serious incident. Three positions means you can raise to a sensible working height and then set the load down onto steel at a height that suits the job, rather than at whichever single height the machine offers.

Capacity is 3,500 lbs, which is an axle-end figure rather than a whole-vehicle figure — the jack lifts one end of the car, not the car.

Will it fit your lift? Measure these three things

1. Rail spacing. The base adjusts between 30.90" and 45.70". Measure the spacing of your own lift's jack rails and confirm it sits inside that window. This is the check that decides everything else, so do it first.

2. Reach to the lift points. The arms extend from 33.90" to 59.80", which covers narrow cars through to wide-track trucks. Compare it against the spread of the lift points on the vehicles you actually service.

3. Height — and pick the right row. On its own the jack works from 3.50" to 11.40", with the pad sitting 3.50" above the runway when fully down. Fitted with the short extension the range becomes 5.00" to 12.90"; fitted with the 5" extension it becomes 8.50" to 16.40". Work out how much lift you need at the vehicle's jacking points, then check it against the range for the extension you will actually have fitted, not against the highest number in the table.

The jack weighs 307 lbs, so plan how it gets into the runways. Confirming compatibility with your particular lift and installing it safely are the customer's responsibility — if you are unsure, send us your lift's make and model and we will check the rail spacing with you before you order.

Perfect for

  • Owners of four-post storage lifts who want to do real service work, not just park cars.
  • Shops running mixed lift brands, where an accessory that only fits one manufacturer is an accessory that sits idle.
  • Collectors and enthusiasts doing their own brake, suspension and wheel work at home.
  • Fleet and municipal workshops servicing their own vehicles on drive-on lifts.

What comes with it

We are going to be blunt here, because it is more useful than a guess: the published data for this model does not include a packing list. What it states is the jack itself, the adjustable sliders and the three locking positions, and the specification record describes lift heights both with and without extensions — but it does not say the extensions ship with the jack. Before you order, ask us to confirm in writing exactly what is in the crate, particularly the extension sets. That is a two-minute question that avoids a very annoying delivery.

Approvals: an honest note

Nothing in the documentation we hold for this jack claims a third-party safety listing, and we will not imply one. This is equipment that suspends a vehicle above a person, which is precisely the category where an insurer, an employer's equipment policy or a local inspector may insist on a named listing. If a specific requirement applies to you, tell us which one and we will confirm in writing what documentation the manufacturer can supply before you order.

Shipping and delivery

Please note: this item does not ship free unless it is purchased together with a lift. Bought on its own it is quoted as freight in the normal way — live, against your own delivery address, at checkout — to destinations in the lower 48 states. Work out the unload in advance: forklift, dock, capable hands with the right gear, or a terminal collection you arrange with the carrier. Residential delivery attracts a residential fee, applied at checkout when it is due, and warehouse pickup is available.

Check the shipment over at delivery, before signing anything. Bent members, a punctured crate, crushed corners and banding that has slipped should be written on the bill of lading with the driver present. A note there is a claim; a clean signature is a problem.

Warranty

Warranty is administered through our warranty claims page. Please leave the unit intact until a claim is open — dismantling the pump, the cylinder or a lock assembly to diagnose it yourself is the most frequent reason a legitimate claim is refused. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and contact us first.
