Katool KT-X85-ELECTRIC Mid Rise Scissor Lift

Katool KT-X85-Electric: the release is electric and the controls run at 24V

The word that matters in this model's name is the last one. On most mid-rise scissor lifts the safety locks are released by hand, which means a technician standing beside a loaded lift, pulling a lever, watching the platform start to move. The KT-X85-Electric releases them electrically from a control circuit running at 24V, so the descent is started deliberately, from a position you choose, on a low-voltage circuit rather than at line potential.

Around that sits a 8,000 lbs (3,500 KG) mid-rise built for shops that are short of floor rather than short of work: tyre bays, brake and suspension work, reconditioning lines, and home garages where a full-height lift was never going to fit under the roof. Katool publishes overload figures for it instead of leaving strength as an adjective — 115% dynamic loading and 150% static loading.

Will It Fit?

Confirming these against your own building is the buyer's job, and it is worth ten minutes before you order rather than a phone call on delivery day.

  • Floor space. 83.5" (2,120 mm) long and 76.75" (1,950 mm) wide overall, with runways 57" (1,450 mm) long and 20.5" (520 mm) wide. The overall width is the number to measure against, not the runway width — the frame and the drive-up ramps live outside the platforms.
  • Height down. 4.25" (110 mm) at its lowest. That is what decides whether a low car can be driven onto the ramps without scraping.
  • Height up. 40.15" (1,020 mm) at full rise. A mid-rise puts the vehicle at bench height, not at standing height — plan for a stool or a creeper seat rather than for walking underneath it.
  • Power. The motor takes either 110V or 220V single-phase supply at 60HZ, 1PH. Choose before it ships.
  • Floor condition. No concrete thickness or strength figure is published for this lift and we are not going to invent one. What it does need is a flat, level, sound slab under the whole frame, with no joint or crack running beneath it.
  • Moving it. Net weight is 1,213 lbs (550 KG). The mobile kit makes it repositionable on a hard, level floor. It does not make it luggage.

Drive-up ramps that lock as a platform extension

This is the detail that quietly widens what the lift can take. The drive-up ramps lock in place and act as an extension of the platform, so a long vehicle whose wheelbase overruns the runways is still fully supported instead of hanging off the end. On a mid-rise the contact patch is everything: a vehicle that is not properly on the platforms is a vehicle that will find its own way to sit level, usually while somebody is under it. Ramps that become structure rather than folding out of the way are worth more in daily use than another few hundred pounds of rated capacity.

Mobile or fixed, and the height limit switch

The KT-X85-Electric can be mounted in a fixed position or run from the supplied mobile kit, which is a real decision rather than a marketing line. A fixed installation is steadier and stays where you put it; the mobile kit turns the lift into a resource that moves between bays, which is how most small shops actually work. A height limit switch caps the travel at the top of the stroke, so the lift stops where it is meant to stop instead of relying on an operator releasing a button at the right moment.

The motor is aluminium with the cooling fan mounted on top, which is a response to the failure mode these units actually have: a shop that lifts and lowers all day cooks a power unit that cannot shed heat. Self-lubricated bushings and bearings on the scissor pivots take the pivot greasing off your maintenance card, though the hydraulics and the lock mechanism still want periodic attention.

What comes on the pads

Composite rubber lifting blocks are included. They are the part that touches the vehicle, and using the ones supplied — set to the manufacturer's designated lift points rather than to whatever piece of the underbody is nearest — is the difference between a clean pickup and a crushed sill.

Perfect For

  • Tyre and wheel work, where the vehicle needs to be up quickly, repeatedly, and only as far as the job requires.
  • Brake, exhaust and suspension jobs on cars and light trucks in a shop with a low or obstructed ceiling.
  • Reconditioning and detailing operations, where a mid-rise at bench height is more useful than a full-height lift.
  • Serious home garages that have outgrown a jack and stands but cannot take a two-post.

Certification, stated plainly

Katool markets this lift as CE approved and certified, with the 115% dynamic and 150% static loading figures quoted above. Read that for what it is. CE is a European conformity marking resting on the manufacturer's own declaration against European directives. It is not the same document as a North American third-party lift safety listing and it is not a substitute for one. For a private garage and for many independent shops the distinction never arises. It does arise for some commercial insurance policies, for fleet and municipal operations, and for local codes that name a specific listing. Find out what your insurer, your inspector or your employer requires before you order, not after the crate is open.

Shipping and delivery

The KT-X85-Electric moves by freight truck to the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout against the address you enter, so what you see is a current carrier rate and not an estimate that has gone stale. It arrives crated on a standard trailer, and unloading is the receiver's responsibility — you need a forklift, a machine, or a plan and a second pair of hands. Where that is not practical, taking delivery at the carrier's local terminal is usually simpler, because the terminal is already equipped for it. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select that option.

Look the shipment over before you sign. Check the crate for crushed corners, punctures, shifted banding and oil on the pallet, and write whatever you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. Take photographs. Once a clean delivery receipt is signed, the carrier has evidence that the freight arrived undamaged and a later claim becomes very difficult.

Warranty

Katool publishes a written warranty document for this lift. We have not paraphrased its terms here, because the terms are the manufacturer's to state and they change — ask us for the current copy before you order if the coverage is part of your decision. One rule applies to any hydraulic lift, whoever made it: if something fails, do not open the power unit, a cylinder or the lock mechanism before a claim is raised. A disassembled part is usually treated as a modified part, and that is the fastest way to lose coverage you would otherwise have had. Photograph the fault, record the serial number, and call before you reach for a spanner.
