Challenger Lifts SA10 Asymmetric — a 10,000 lb two-post you size at installation

Most two-post lifts arrive as one width and one height and you build your bay around them. The SA10 does not. It is specified with two overall widths (129" or 135"), two inside-column dimensions (106.75" or 112.75"), two drive-through clearances (92.75" or 98.75") and two overall heights (136.5" or 142.5"), with a 2' height extension available on top of that. The installer picks the combination that suits the building. For a shop with a post in the wrong place, a narrow bay or an awkward roll-up door, that flexibility is the reason this lift gets specified over cheaper ones.

This listing is the asymmetric configuration: the columns are rotated so the vehicle sits further back between them, which is what buys door clearance on cars. The same SA10 can be installed symmetric instead, depending on the work you do.

Asymmetric, and why it exists

In an asymmetric setup the vehicle's weight is carried further to the rear of the lift, so the driver and passenger doors open in front of the columns rather than into them. Anyone who has opened a car door onto a column knows exactly what that is worth. It is the configuration most general repair shops want, because most of what they lift is a car whose occupants' doors have to open.

The arms are what make it work. The SA10 uses 3-stage front arms with a reach range of 22.375" to 41.5", and 2-stage rear arms reaching 38.25" to 59". Three stages on the front arm means it collapses shorter and extends longer than a two-stage arm, so a short front overhang and a long wheelbase are both reachable without hunting for a spot. Challenger's own description of the benefit is greater sweep and easier spotting, and that is exactly what a technician feels: fewer repositioning attempts per vehicle.

Will It Fit?

Two-post lifts are unforgiving about ceiling height and about concrete. Verifying both, plus the bay width and the power available, is the buyer's responsibility before the order goes in.

  • Ceiling: Challenger specifies 12' of required ceiling height for this lift.
  • Overall height: 136.5" or 142.5" depending on configuration; a 2' height extension is available.
  • Floor to overhead switch: 131.125" or 137.125" — this is the figure a tall vehicle actually meets.
  • Overall width: 129" or 135".
  • Inside columns: 106.75" or 112.75".
  • Drive-through clearance: 92.75" or 98.75".
  • Rise height: 74.5" at the pad; maximum rise under the arms 70".
  • Power: 2HP motor on 208v/230v, single-phase, 60Hz.
  • Speed of rise: 43 seconds.

On concrete: a two-post lift transfers the entire load into a small number of anchors, so slab thickness, strength and cure are not optional details. Challenger publishes anchoring and floor requirements with the lift, and we would rather you check them against your slab before ordering than discover the problem on installation day. If you do not know what your floor is, find out — a core sample is cheaper than a failed install.

Adjustable heights and widths: what that solves

The two-dimension specification is not a marketing flourish; it exists for buildings that were not designed around a lift. A bay narrowed by a structural column takes the 129" width. A shop with a low header over the door takes the 136.5" overall height rather than the 142.5". A tall building that services vans takes the 142.5" and the 2' extension. Challenger's own wording for this is versatility at installation for service facilities with special constraints, which is a dry way of saying: this lift can usually be made to fit.

The practical consequence is that the drive-through clearance and the inside-column figures come in pairs. When you plan the bay, plan around the pair you are actually ordering — tell us the configuration and we will confirm the exact numbers back to you before the lift ships.

Pads, locks and door protection

The SA10 uses premium double telescoping screw pads, adjustable between 4.75" and 6.875". The point of a telescoping pad is that a lot of vehicles can be picked up correctly without reaching for a stack of adapters — fewer adapters on the floor, fewer wrong-height guesses, and less chance of a pad meeting a rocker panel instead of a jacking point.

Lock release is single-point and mechanical: one control disengages both columns at the same moment, so a technician is never dropping one column's locks while the other stays engaged. Above the vehicle sits a padded overhead shut-off that stops the lift before a roof, aerial or roof rack meets the crossbeam. Arm restraints and arm pins are plated to resist rust, and dual integrated rubber door guards come as standard to protect the panels of the car being lifted.

Perfect For

  • The general repair shop lifting cars all day, where door clearance is a daily concern.
  • Buildings with constraints — a narrow bay, a low header, an inconveniently placed column.
  • Tyre, brake and suspension work, where 3-stage front arms cut the time spent spotting.
  • The serious home workshop with a 12' ceiling and a proper slab.

What's in the Box

The complete SA10 lift in the asymmetric configuration: two columns, the overhead assembly with its padded shut-off, 3-stage front and 2-stage rear arms, double telescoping screw pads, plated arm restraints and pins, the single-point mechanical lock release and the rubber door guards, in Challenger's premium powder coat. Colours listed for this lift are red and blue.

The 2' height extension is an available option rather than standard equipment. Anchors, adapters and any accessory beyond the list above should be confirmed with us in writing before you order.

Certification

Challenger's data for the SA10 states ALI/ETL certified. That matters commercially as well as practically: insurers, fleet contracts and some local jurisdictions ask for third-party lift certification by name, and a lift that carries it saves an argument later.

Certification covers the lift as designed and manufactured. It says nothing about your slab, your anchors or your installation, all of which are on you and your installer. Follow Challenger's published anchoring and concrete requirements, keep the paperwork, and if a specific inspection regime applies to your site, confirm what it wants before the lift arrives.

Shipping and delivery

Freight to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for your address so the number you see is current.

Columns for a two-post lift arrive crated and heavy. You will need a forklift or equivalent at the delivery point, or you can arrange to collect the shipment from the carrier's terminal. Deliveries to residential addresses carry a residential fee. Warehouse pickup is available on this product.

Check the freight before you sign for it. Look over the crates while the driver is still there and write any damage, dent or shortage onto the bill of lading. Once you have signed clean, you have stated the shipment arrived intact, and a claim afterwards is a much harder conversation.

Warranty

The SA10 is covered by Challenger's published warranty; our claims route is at mechanicsuperstore.com/pages/warranty-claims. We have not quoted a term on this page because the data we hold for this model does not state one — ask us and we will confirm the current warranty period in writing before you order.

If a fault appears, stop using the lift and contact us before anything is taken apart. A component that has already been disassembled is far harder to have accepted, and photographs of the fault in place are worth more than a description written from memory.
