Challenger CL10AV3-DPC-QC Versymmetric 2-Post Adjustable Lift

This is the fully specified end of the CL10AV3 range, and the model number reads like a parts list: DPC for Dual Pendant Controls, QC for QuickCycle. Our record lists its configuration as Dual Pendant Controls & QuickCycle, and it is the QuickCycle half that carries the bigger 3 HP power unit and a 27 second speed of rise. Capacity is 10,000 lbs., on the same Versymmetric offset-arm platform the rest of the family uses.

If you are choosing between the variants, the short version is this: the pendants change where a technician can stand, the QuickCycle power unit changes how long they stand there. This page is about whether paying for both is justified by the work you do.

Where the cycle time actually goes

A rise time looks like a vanity number until you multiply it. A lift is raised and lowered several times on a single job - up to remove wheels, down to check a road-going fault, up again to torque, down to release. Across a day of short-interval work, seconds spent watching a lift travel are seconds nobody is paid for, and they arrive in the least useful shape possible: too short to start another task, long enough to break concentration.

Where that arithmetic works is express service - oil, tyres, inspections, brake jobs measured in tens of vehicles rather than hours per vehicle. Where it does not work is a shop where a vehicle goes up in the morning and comes down in the afternoon. For that shop the standard power unit is the honest recommendation, and it costs less.

Two pendants on top of that

The dual pendant half of this model is about position rather than speed. A control station on each column means the operator can stand on the side the vehicle was loaded from and watch the near pads take weight, instead of running the lift blind from a fixed post and walking around to check. In a bay where two technicians share a vehicle, each of them has controls in front of them. Combined with a power unit that moves quickly, the practical effect is that the lift stops being the thing everyone waits on.

Versymmetric geometry, in plain terms

Versymmetric offset front arms let one lift do symmetric and asymmetric work without being reconfigured. Asymmetric spotting sets the vehicle back so doors clear the columns - the right answer for a wide-door sedan whose occupants have to get out. Symmetric spotting centres the load between the columns, which is what a long pickup wants. Being able to choose per vehicle, rather than living with one compromise, is the whole argument for this arm design.

Front arms are 3-stage and reach 20 in. to 42 in.; rear arms are 3-stage and reach 37.625 in. to 60 in. Premium double telescoping screw pads adjust from 3.875 in. to 6.125 in., which covers most recommended lift points without a stack of adapters. The directSPOT front arm design is intended to end the reverse-and-retry routine that costs a bay a minute every time a vehicle is spotted wrong.

Built to be serviced, not just sold

The equalisation system uses an oversized 5 in. diameter pulley and heavy duty 5/16 in. cable - a larger pulley means a gentler bend radius on the cable and less stress per cycle, which is exactly what a shop running a high cycle count should care about. Each carriage is 48 in. elongated, spreading load down a longer run of column. The single-point lock release is pulley-less and jacketed, so one pull frees both columns and there is no release pulley to seize. Base plates are fully gusseted, arm restraints and pins are plated, and the finish is powder coat.

Will It Fit?

Built for a 12 ft. ceiling as standard, with 2 ft. or 3 ft. column extensions available. Floor to overhead switch runs 10 ft. 8.5 in. to 11 ft. 2.5 in. depending on setup.

Three width settings take the lift from 11 ft. 6.5 in. through to 12 ft. 6.5 in. overall, giving 110 in., 116 in. or 122 in. inside the columns and 100 in., 106 in. or 112 in. of drive-thru clearance between the carriages. Rise height at the top of the pad is 74.125 in., and maximum rise measured under the arms is 70 in.

One caution before you commit to a ceiling. Our specification block gives overall height as 11 ft. 2 in. or 11 ft. 8 in. by column setting, and 11 ft. 11 in. with the cylinder extended, while a separate field in our own catalogue records 143 in., 145 in. or 146 in. for the same measurement. Those are different claims and we are not going to pick one for you - ask us to confirm it in writing before you order if headroom is tight.

We do not hold Challenger's concrete thickness and strength specification in our own product data, so we will not quote you one. Ask us for the installation manual before you drill anything. Verifying the slab, the anchor spec, the ceiling clearance and the electrical supply is the buyer's responsibility, and it is far cheaper to do it with a tape measure than with a lift on the floor.

Power supply

3 HP, 208v-230v, 60 Hz, 1 Ph, with speed of rise listed at 27 seconds. That is a larger motor than the standard configuration of this lift carries, so if you are replacing an older unit do not assume the existing circuit is adequate. Have an electrician read the motor plate and size the supply before delivery.

If a listing is a condition of your cover or a contract you are bidding on, get the requirement in writing and let us match the certificate to the exact configuration before you order.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight only, within the lower 48 states. Plan for a forklift or a dock, or take terminal pickup instead; warehouse collection is available. Residential delivery can be arranged and carries a fee. The freight charge is quoted live at checkout rather than printed here, because carrier pricing changes and a stale number in a description helps nobody.

Check the shipment before signing for it. Count cartons against the packing list, look for crush damage, punctures and banding that has been cut and retied, and record anything questionable on the bill of lading while the driver waits. Once it is signed clean, the carrier's part of the argument is over.
