Challenger CL10-XP9: a two-post lift with no arms at all

Challenger's own specification for the CL10-XP9 lists its arm configuration as not applicable, and that is not an omission. This 9,000 lbs lift has two columns and two platforms, and the vehicle is driven onto them. Nothing swings, nothing telescopes, and nobody kneels beside a sill hunting for a lift point.

That single design decision is what the lift is for. Everything a shop gains from it — speed, consistency between technicians, fewer chances to set a pad badly — follows from removing the arms. So does everything it gives up.

Spotting is the job, and the pad is the answer

Count what happens on a swing-arm lift between the vehicle stopping and the wheels leaving the ground: four arms swung, four arms extended, four pads set, and a walk around to check them. Now count it here: stop, get out, raise. In a bay turning over vehicles all day the second sequence is a different business.

The gain is consistency rather than raw seconds. A pad set by an experienced technician and a pad set by somebody in their second week are not the same pad, and a drive-on platform removes that variable entirely. The corresponding loss is honest and worth saying: you cannot get at a pinch weld, a sill or a rocker while the wheels are on the platform, so this is a general-service and express machine, not a body-shop one.

Ramps that flip up and lock

The front and rear access ramps are reinforced, and they flip up and lock rather than folding away. Locked upright they act as extensions to the platform, which is how a longer-wheelbase vehicle fits a fixed-length platform without overhang. It is a small piece of engineering that quietly widens the range of what the lift can take, and it costs nothing to use.

A column-mounted spotting block caddy comes as standard, which sounds trivial until you have swept blocks off a busy floor for a year. Blocks that live on the column are blocks that get used and blocks nobody trips over.

The parts you never look at

Three numbers on this lift describe hardware no operator ever sees. The carriage is 48″ long, an elongated design that spreads the load across more column and reduces the point loading that wears a carriage oval. The equalisation pulley is an oversized 5″ diameter, and the cable running over it is a heavy-duty 5/16″ item. A cable bent around a small pulley fatigues faster; a bigger pulley and a heavier cable are what stop the equalisation system becoming a maintenance item at year five. A fully gusseted base plate stiffens the column at the floor, and the lock release is a pulley-less jacketed single-point system, so the locks in both columns free together from one handle.

Will It Fit?

These are the dimensions to hold a tape measure against. Confirming that your building suits the lift is the customer's responsibility, and it is much cheaper to do it now than on installation day.

• Ceiling height required: 12'. Height extensions of 2-foot and 3-foot are available if you have the roof for them.
• Overall height: 140″, or 143″ with the cylinder extended.
• Floor to overhead switch: 134.5″ — the point where a tall vehicle meets the padded shut-off.
• Overall width: 138.5″, with 110″ inside the columns and 90″ of drive-through clearance.
• Platforms: 24″ wide, 2.25″ high, 31.5″ apart, available in 58″, 66.5″ and 75″ lengths.
• Rise: 70″ to the top of the pad, with 68″ maximum rise under the platforms.
• Electrical: a 2HP motor, 208v–230v, 60Hz, single phase (1Ph), on a dedicated circuit.
• Slab: the concrete specification lives in the installation manual. Read it before ordering. Anchoring into a thin slab, a crack or an expansion joint is the failure mode that makes a two-post dangerous.

Where our records do not agree

Two things on this listing need saying rather than smoothing over. The marketing paragraph that has been running on this page quotes QuickCycle rise and lower times, but QuickCycle is a separate model in the range and this lift's specification does not list it as fitted. We have published no rise time on this page at all rather than borrow another SKU's figure. Ask us and we will confirm the speed for the exact variant you are ordering.

Separately, one of our stored fields gives a minimum pad height a fraction above the platform height printed in the specification block. The gap is a quarter of an inch. That is irrelevant on most vehicles and decisive on a very low one, so if you are working to the limit, ask and we will verify it against the factory drawing first.

Certification

Challenger lists this lift as ALI and ETL certified, and both marks are already carried in the product data. Read that for what it is: a statement about the lift that was submitted and tested, not about the concrete it ends up bolted to, the circuit feeding it, or who put it up. If your insurer, your landlord or a fleet contract names a particular listing as a condition, ask us for the certificate covering the exact model and revision before you commit.

Shipping and delivery

This is a freight shipment within the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for the address you enter. You will need to get it off the truck — a forklift, a dock, or a collection from the carrier's terminal — because the driver is not equipped to unload it for you. Residential delivery is a separate service and attracts a residential fee. If it suits you better, warehouse pickup is available.

Before you sign anything, walk around the shipment. Check the crated columns, the platforms and the ramps for damage, count what has arrived, and write anything wrong onto the delivery note in front of the driver. A clean signature closes the door on a damage claim.
