Challenger 44060E Heavy-Duty 4-Post Chain-Driven Lift

What distinguishes this lift from an ordinary four-post is the synchro-power arrangement: two heavy-duty cylinders with lever controls, able to feed the front and the rear of the lift either together or independently. On a car that is an irrelevance. On a refuse packer, a mixer or a boom truck — vehicles that carry most of their mass over one axle group — it is the difference between a controlled, level ascent and a lift being asked to do something awkward every time it is used.

Vehicles That Are Heavy at One End

Weight distribution, not gross weight, is what makes vocational trucks hard to lift. A packer body loaded at the rear, a mixer with a full drum, a crane truck with the boom stowed over the cab: a large share of the mass sits well away from the centre of the wheelbase, and a lift that can only raise both ends in lockstep absorbs that imbalance in its structure throughout the travel.

Lever controls delivering variable or synchronous power let the operator correct for it instead — ends together where the vehicle is even, fed differently where it is not, so the deck stays level. It is also easier to work under a vehicle that is genuinely level: alignment checks, torque work and fluid levels all assume a flat platform.

Locks, Headroom and a Single Release Point

Ten lock positions are provided across the 40K–60K models in this family. That is a working-height statement rather than a safety one: the vehicle can be parked at the height that suits the job rather than the nearest notch above it, which over a shift is the difference between working upright and working with your arms overhead.

The lock release is single-point and air-actuated — one control disengages all four column locks at once. Walking round a loaded lift releasing four locks in sequence is exactly the sort of routine, unremarkable job in which something eventually goes wrong.

The Capacity Figure We Cannot Confirm

Our own records for this lift do not agree with each other, so we are going to tell you rather than pick one.

The product title and the lifting-capacity field both state 60,000 lbs. The detailed specification block stored against this same product states 50,000 lbs, under a heading that does name this model. There is a further reason for caution: the dimensional figures and the listed overall weight in that block are identical, to the pound and to the inch, with those of the 50,000 lb sibling model, which is what you would expect if a block had been duplicated between two listings.

We are not going to average two capacities, and we are not going to publish the larger one because it suits us. Confirm the rated capacity with us before you order. Call, text or chat and we will get it from Challenger in writing — the capacity plate on the delivered lift should not be where you find out.

Runways, Ramps and Spacing

Runways are 32″ wide and 14″ high, diamond-plated and anti-skid, with diamond-plate approach ramps. That surface does two jobs: traction as the vehicle drives on, often on a wet tire from the yard, and traction underfoot for the technician walking the deck afterwards. Spacing between runways adjusts from 36″ to 58″, or 43″ to 53.5″ with rolling jacks fitted — too narrow and a wide-track truck sits near the runway edges, too wide and a narrow-track van is uncomfortable to drive on. Make that decision at installation rather than inheriting it.

Will It Fit?

Maximum wheelbase is 370″, which places this model in the middle of the family's 310″ to 430″ span — long enough for most vocational chassis, and worth checking hub-centre to hub-centre against your longest regular vehicle rather than guessing from bumper to bumper.

Overall length is 41 ft with 350″ between the columns; overall width is 17 ft 1.25″ with 144″ between the inside faces of the columns. Overall height is 92″ and maximum rise at the top of the runway is 73″, so the ceiling has to clear the runway height, the rise and the vehicle, plus working room — and the measurement that counts is to the lowest fitting in the bay, typically a light, a door track or a unit heater. Listed overall weight is 15,325 lbs.

Electrically, the motor is listed at 15HP, three-phase, on a supply range topping out at 460V. Three-phase power is not optional on this lift, and adding it to a building afterwards is expensive. We hold no concrete thickness or slab strength figure for this model, so ask us for Challenger's foundation specification before any concrete work is planned — we will send the document rather than let you estimate. Ceiling, floor, slab and supply are all the buyer's responsibility to confirm, and together they are most of the installation risk.

Perfect For

  • Refuse, municipal and utility fleets running vehicles with heavily unbalanced axle loads.
  • Construction fleets servicing mixers, boom trucks and heavy vocational bodies.
  • Multi-bay heavy truck shops that need a mid-length four-post rather than the longest one in the family.

What's in the Box

The lift comes with diamond-plate anti-skid runways and approach ramps, the dual-cylinder synchro-power system with lever controls, column locks with single-point air-actuated release, and black columns — the only colour listed for this model. Rolling jacks from 15,000 lb to 35,000 lb are an option and are not included; specify them at the time of order, since fitting them changes the usable runway spacing.

Certification, Stated Plainly

Our data for this lift does not record an independent third-party safety listing, and we will not imply that it has one. On a vehicle lift that omission carries real weight: insurers, fleet safety policies and some local jurisdictions can require a recognised third-party listing before a lift may be installed or put into service, and finding that out after delivery is an expensive way to learn it.

If any such requirement applies to you, send us its exact wording before you order and we will take it to Challenger. A lift is not a product to buy on an assumption about paperwork.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for the ZIP code you enter — current for your address rather than a stale table figure.

Then there is the physical problem of a shipment listed at 15,325 lbs. Columns, runways, ramps and the power unit arrive as separate heavy items, and getting them off the trailer is the receiver's responsibility: lifting equipment rated for the job, a firm surface to set the pieces on, and space to do it without blocking the truck for a day. Book that before the delivery date, or take terminal pickup instead. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout when selected.

Check the shipment against the paperwork before you sign — count the pieces and look for bent flanges, gouged runway plate and anything that has clearly shifted. Photograph it and describe it on the bill of lading in plain words. A clean signature says everything arrived complete and undamaged, and reversing that on freight of this value is close to impossible.

Warranty

The manufacturer's warranty applies, and our claims process lives on the warranty claims page of this site. The term and covered components are deliberately not restated: the document supplied with the lift governs, and a summary drifts out of date and is then read back to us. Ask and we will send the current one before you buy.

And the warning that goes on every lift: do not take a suspect cylinder, lock assembly or power unit apart before the claim is open. Once dismantled, the cause of failure can no longer be established by inspection — a standard and reasonable ground for a claim to be declined. Photograph it, note what the lift was doing, and call us first.
