Challenger 44060 Heavy-Duty 4-Post Chain-Driven Lift

This is the model in Challenger's heavy four-post family that gives you the full 60,000 lbs of capacity in the least building. Maximum wheelbase is 310″ — the short end of the family's 310″ to 430″ span — and overall length is about 36 ft. Capacity and footprint are usually traded against each other, and this model is the one where you do not have to make that trade, provided the vehicles you lift are heavy rather than long.

Heavy Is Not the Same as Long

A great many of the heaviest vehicles a shop sees are compact. A loaded tri-axle dump truck, a concrete mixer, a single-axle refuse body, a short-wheelbase tractor unit: all can approach the top of this lift's rating while sitting inside a 310″ wheelbase. Buying the longest lift in the range for that work means paying for floor you will never put a wheel on, and needing a building you may not have.

Measure hub centre to hub centre on your longest regular vehicle — the figure a lift is actually rated on — and compare it to 310″. If your work is genuinely longer, one of the longer models is the honest answer and we will tell you so.

The Bay Is Usually the Constraint

Fitting a heavy four-post is rarely limited by the lift's capacity. It is limited by the door, the column line, the drain in the middle of the floor and the sprinkler head over the middle of the bay. About 36 ft of overall length with 290″ between the columns is the tightest this level of capacity gets in the family, and in an existing building that difference frequently decides whether the project happens at all.

Work out the clear run you have — including room to open a vehicle door at the ramp end and to walk past the columns with a toolbox — before you commit. A lift that fits with nothing to spare is a lift that is unpleasant to use every day.

Runways, Ramps and Spacing

Runways are 32″ wide with a diamond-plate anti-skid surface and diamond-plate approach ramps, sitting 14″ high. That width matters most in the last three feet of the approach, when the driver of a high-cab truck can no longer see the runway edges and is relying on the mirrors and on the feel of the ramp.

Spacing between the runways adjusts from 36″ to 58″, and from 43″ to 53.5″ when rolling jacks are fitted between them. Set it deliberately at installation for the track widths you actually service — this is a decision that tends to be made once by whoever commissions the lift and then lived with for a decade.

Lift Control and Lock Positions

The lift is chain driven, with dual heavy-duty cylinders and lever controls that can send power to the front and the rear either together or independently. On a mixer or a packer, where a large share of the mass sits over one axle group, that independence is what keeps the deck level through the travel rather than forcing the structure to absorb the imbalance.

Ten lock positions are provided across the 40K–60K models, which is about working height rather than about safety margin: it lets a vehicle be parked where the job is comfortable instead of at the nearest notch. The lock release is single-point and air actuated, disengaging all four columns simultaneously, so no one is circling a loaded lift releasing locks by hand.

Will It Fit?

Overall height is 92″ and maximum rise at the top of the runway is 73″. Your ceiling has to clear the runway height, the whole rise and the tallest vehicle you plan to raise, plus room to stand and work underneath — and it is the lowest fitting in the bay that decides, typically a light, a door track, a sprinkler or a unit heater, not the roof deck.

Overall width is 17 ft 1.25″, with 144″ between the inside faces of the columns. Listed overall weight is 14,075 lbs, which is the lightest of the heavy four-posts here and one more reason this model suits an existing building. The motor is listed at 15HP, three-phase, with a supply range topping out at 460V — a three-phase installation, to be quoted by an electrician before you order rather than after delivery.

What's in the Box

The lift is supplied with the diamond-plate anti-skid runways and approach ramps, the dual-cylinder lift system with lever controls, column locks with single-point air-actuated release, and black columns — the only colour listed. Rolling jacks from 15,000 lb to 35,000 lb are an option and are not part of the lift; if you need wheel-free service, specify them at the time of order because they change the usable spacing between the runways.

Our data for this lift does not record an independent third-party safety listing, and we are not going to imply that it does. On vehicle lifts that is a question with teeth. Some insurers will not cover a lift without a recognised third-party listing, many fleet and public-sector safety standards require one, and in some jurisdictions it is a condition of installation.

Receiving a shipment listed at 14,075 lbs is a planned operation. It arrives as separate heavy pieces — columns, runways, ramps, power unit — and unloading them is the receiver's responsibility rather than the carrier's. Line up lifting equipment rated for the job, firm ground to set the components on, and enough room that the truck is not tied up for hours. Sort it out when the order is placed, not when the driver calls; where a site cannot manage it, terminal pickup is the alternative. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout when you choose it.

Before signing, count the pieces against the paperwork and look them over: bent flanges, gouged runway plate, damaged ramp edges, anything that has clearly moved. Photograph it and write it onto the bill of lading in plain words. A clean signature says the shipment arrived complete and undamaged, and on freight this size that is almost impossible to withdraw afterwards.

One warning worth repeating on every lift: do not take a suspect cylinder, lock assembly or power unit apart before the claim is open. Once dismantled, nobody can establish the cause of failure by inspection, and manufacturers decline claims on that basis routinely. Photograph the fault, note what the lift was doing, and call us before a tool comes out.
