Challenger 44050 — 50,000 lb Four-Post Chain-Driven Lift

The 44050 is the top of Challenger's chain-driven four-post range, and the number that decides most installations is not the 50,000 lb capacity. It is the 14,075 lb the lift itself weighs. That figure is what your rigger quotes against, what your slab has to carry before a vehicle ever drives on, and what separates a machine like this from the lighter four-posts that share its shape. Buy it for the capacity; plan for it by the weight.

It is also the only unit in this chain-driven family fitted with a 15 HP power unit; every other model in the range makes do with a smaller one. More pump means the same rise stroke is moved under a heavier load without the motor working at the top of its duty cycle all day, which is the difference between a lift that services fleet trucks and one that occasionally lifts one.

Will it fit?

Four measurements decide this before anything else. Take them yourself, in the bay, with a tape — not off a floor plan.

  • Bay length. The lift is 36' overall. Add room to walk the ends and to open a truck door at full height.
  • Bay width. Overall width is 17' 1.25", with 144" clear between the inside faces of the columns and 290" between column centres front to rear.
  • Ceiling. The columns stand 92" tall and the runways rise to 73" at the top of the deck. Your working headroom is whatever is left between the top of the vehicle at full rise and your lowest obstruction — lights, ducting, door tracks, a fire sprinkler.
  • Vehicle. Maximum wheelbase on this model is 310".

Concrete depth, concrete strength, anchor pattern and three-phase power are the buyer's responsibility, and they are the four things that most often delay an install. The power unit runs on 230 - 460V three-phase — confirm with your electrician that the supply and the disconnect are in place before the truck arrives, not after. If your slab was poured for passenger-car work, have it assessed against the loaded weight of this machine before you commit.

Runways, and what you can fit between them

The runways are 32" wide and sit 14" off the floor, with diamond-plate approach ramps at the drive-on end. Width between runways adjusts from 36" to 58", which is the range that lets one lift take a dual-rear-wheel chassis and a narrow-track van without a second set of hardware. If you plan to run rolling jacks on the deck, note that the usable spacing changes to 43" - 53.5" with jacks fitted — measure against the axles you actually service, because that narrower window is the one that matters on the day.

Lock positions are stacked up the column so you can park the deck at a working height rather than only at full rise, and the air-actuated release drops every column lock together from one control. On a lift this long that is a practical safety feature rather than a convenience one: walking four columns to release locks individually is how a deck ends up unlevel.

Chain drive, and why the deck stays level

This is a chain-driven design with a hydraulic power unit driving the lifting chains rather than a cylinder under each runway. The front and rear can be given power together or independently, so a chassis with a heavily loaded front axle or a rear-mounted body can be brought up level instead of nose-down. Refuse bodies, service cranes and mixer chassis all sit badly on a lift that only moves as one unit, and that is the case this machine is built around.

Perfect For

  • Truck fleets running medium and heavy chassis that outgrow a two-post lift's swing arms.
  • Municipal and utility shops servicing refuse, water and line trucks with awkward weight distribution.
  • Commercial dealerships that need one bay capable of anything on the lot.
  • Not a home garage. The three-phase supply, the 36' footprint and the installed weight all rule that out — say so early rather than discovering it at delivery.

What ships, and what does not

The lift arrives as columns, runways, approach ramps, the power unit and the lock release hardware. Two things people expect in the crate and do not get: rolling jacks and an oil drain pan are options ordered separately, and the jack range offered against this family runs 15,000 lb to 35,000 lb. Columns are supplied in black; no other finish is offered on this model.

A note on the feature list below

The bulleted features further down this page are Challenger's list for the whole 30,000 lb to 60,000 lb chain-driven range, not for this model alone. Where a bullet gives a span — capacity, wheelbase, jack ratings — the figure that applies to the 44050 is the one in the table above. If a bullet and the table appear to disagree for your application, ask us and we will confirm against the factory spec sheet before you order.

Certification, stated plainly

The product data we hold for the 44050 does not state a third-party safety listing for this model, and we are not going to imply one it has not been given. Some insurers, fleet safety policies and local inspection authorities require lifting equipment to carry an independent listing from a recognised testing body — that is a document issued after testing, not a manufacturer's own statement. If any of those apply to you, tell us before you order and we will get the current status in writing from Challenger rather than guess at it here.

Freight and delivery

This ships as freight within the lower 48 states, and the shipping price is quoted live at checkout for your address rather than fixed in this page. You must be able to unload it — a forklift with the reach and rating for a crate this heavy, or a scheduled collection from the carrier's terminal. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee. Inspect the shipment against the bill of lading before you sign: photograph anything bent, scraped or short, note it on the paperwork, and tell us the same day. A signed clean receipt makes a damage claim very difficult to win.

Warranty

Warranty is handled through the manufacturer — see our warranty claims page for how to open one. One thing to get right first: do not dismantle a suspect component before the claim is filed. A part that has been taken apart is usually treated as an uninspectable part, and that turns a straightforward replacement into an argument.
