Challenger 4030XFX — the general-service deck on the long 4030 chassis

The 4030 platform is sold in two deck configurations, and the 4030XFX is the general-service one. Everything structural is the long-chassis specification: 30,000 lb of capacity, a 317" maximum wheelbase, 380" of lift on the floor. What changes is the runway itself. Challenger's published feature list for this model does not include the recessed turn plate pockets that appear on the alignment-deck variants, and its specification sheet publishes no two-wheel alignment figure. Read that as the deck being built for service work, not for measurement work.

That is the honest way to buy it, and it is worth being direct about, because model codes in this family differ by two letters and the deck is the thing those letters change. If your bay is an alignment bay, ask us before you order this variant — we will confirm the deck configuration against the factory sheet rather than let a code get misread.

What you keep

Almost all of it. The lift is cable-driven on heavy steel sheaves and cables, it is ALI/ETL certified, and it remains compatible with current camera imaging alignment systems — so alignment-adjacent work is not off the table, the deck simply is not built around recessed plates. Adjustable lock ladders are fitted, multiple lock positions let the deck park at a working height, and one air-actuated control releases all four columns at once.

The runway height is the underrated specification here: 8.5" off the floor across a 24" wide runway, with diamond-plate approach ramps. A low deck means a shallow approach angle, which is what a long front overhang or a low air dam needs to get up without contact. Spacing between runways is set from 46" to 52".

What the building has to provide

Challenger states a minimum recommended bay of 34' x 17' for this model, which is unusually useful information — most manufacturers publish a footprint and leave circulation space to the buyer's imagination. The lift itself measures 380" long by 172.75" wide, stands 92.25" at the columns, and raises the runway surface to 71.75". Between the columns there is 318.625", with 152" clear inside them, and that drive-through figure is what decides whether vehicles leave forwards or reverse out.

Two services are needed and both are the buyer's to arrange. Electrically it is modest: a 3 HP motor on 208 - 230V single phase, so no three-phase installation. Pneumatically it needs shop air at 90 - 120 psi to release the locks, which is the requirement most often overlooked when a bay is being prepared. Concrete depth, concrete strength, anchor layout and floor flatness are also yours to confirm against Challenger's requirements before installation is booked.

Adjustable lock ladders, and why they exist

Shop floors are not flat. They are poured with drainage falls, they settle unevenly, and after twenty years of forklift traffic they are less flat still. A four-post lift whose lock positions are fixed at the factory has to be shimmed into agreement with a floor like that. Adjustable ladders move the adjustment into the lift, where an installer can set all four columns to lock in unison on the surface that actually exists. It is the difference between a deck that seats cleanly on every lock and one that always sounds like it is landing on three.

Perfect For

  • Heavy general service — brakes, driveline, suspension and inspection work on long-wheelbase chassis.
  • Fleet maintenance shops that need the capacity and the length without paying for an alignment deck they will not use.
  • Single-phase shops where a three-phase service upgrade would cost more than the lift.
  • Not the first choice for a dedicated alignment bay — the alignment-deck variants in this family exist for that, and we would rather sell you the right one.

Included and optional

Columns, runways, approach ramps, the power unit and the single-point lock release make up the lift. Rolling jacks and an oil drain pan are separate purchases. The runways carry a built-in rail system that accepts them, so adding either later is an order rather than a fabrication job. The lift is finished in black.

A note on the feature list below

Challenger's bulleted list covers the 4030 series and quotes the family's three wheelbase options rather than this model's single value. For the 4030XFX the figure is 317", as in the table above. Anything on that list that changes your decision is worth a phone call to us before you order; we will confirm it against the current factory sheet.

The certification, and why it is not a given

This model is recorded as ALI/ETL certified on Challenger's specification, so unlike a good deal of heavy lifting equipment it carries a third-party listing — an independent testing body examined the design, which is a different and stronger thing than a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity. That distinction is exactly what an insurer, a fleet safety auditor or a local inspector is asking about when they ask about certification. We can supply the current certificate for your records if you need it on file.

Freight

Sent as freight within the lower 48 states, with the shipping cost quoted live at checkout for your address rather than fixed in this text. Unloading is the buyer's responsibility — either a forklift with the rating and reach for a crate this size, or a pickup you arrange at the carrier's terminal. Residential delivery is offered and carries a residential fee. Look the shipment over before signing the bill of lading: any shortage or damage has to be written on the paperwork at delivery, photographed, and reported to us the same day.

Warranty

Warranty is the manufacturer's and runs through our warranty claims page. Keep a failed part assembled until the claim exists. Once it is in pieces it generally cannot be inspected, and a straightforward replacement turns into a negotiation.
