Challenger Lifts 4030SFX: a 30,000 lb four-post that can be set level on a floor that is not

Most heavy four-post lifts are specified on capacity and rise, and then installed into a shop floor that slopes, dips or was poured in two pours ten years apart. The 4030SFX has a feature aimed squarely at that reality: adjustable lock ladders, which allow the lock positions to be trimmed during installation so the deck sits level and the locks engage together even when the concrete underneath them does not agree.

It is an unglamorous specification and it is the one that decides whether a lift is a pleasure or an irritation for the next decade. Around it sits the rest of the heavy-duty 4030: 30,000 lbs of capacity, a cable-driven lifting system on heavy-duty steel sheaves and cables, a single-point air-actuated lock release, and a built-in runway rail system that leaves the door open to accessories you have not bought yet.

Wheelbase: two figures, and which one to trust

The 4030 feature list quotes a maximum wheelbase of 244.5", 281" or 317" because the series is produced in three runway lengths. The specification sheet attached to this configuration gives a single figure, 244.5".

We are not going to average those or pick the flattering one. Give us the longest vehicle you need on the deck and we will confirm which length your quote covers before the order is placed. It is a five-minute conversation now and a very expensive one after delivery.

Will It Fit?

Plan the bay first. The minimum recommended bay size published for this lift is 28' x 17', and the lift is 308" long and 172.75" wide with 92.25" columns.

• Column spacing. 246.125" between columns and 152" inside them — the clear width a vehicle passes through.
• Rise. 71.75" measured to the top of the runway. Add the height of the tallest vehicle you will put on it before you look at your roof trusses.
• Runways. 24" wide and 8.5" tall, with 46" to 52" of adjustment between them.
• Air. 90 to 120 psi at the lift, for the lock release.
• Power. A 3HP motor on 208-230V single-phase.

Concrete thickness and compressive strength are not carried in the specification data we hold, and we will not invent them for a lift in this weight class. Request the installation drawing from us and have the slab assessed against it before you buy. The floor, the ceiling clearance and the electrical supply are the buyer's to confirm, and a slab that needs a saw-cut and a new pour is far better discovered in the quoting stage.

Why lock ladders and a single-point release belong together

A four-post lift spends almost all of its working life resting on mechanical locks rather than on hydraulics. Two things follow from that. The first is that the locks must all engage at the same height, which is what the adjustable lock ladders are for: they let the installer compensate for a floor that is out by a fraction across the span of the lift, so the deck rests evenly rather than on two of four columns.

The second is that they must all release together. The single-point air-actuated release disengages the column locks simultaneously, from one control, instead of asking a technician to walk around a loaded truck pulling catches. The two features are complementary — one makes the locks sit right, the other makes them come out right — and together they are the reason this platform behaves predictably under load.

The runway rail system, and buying for later

The runway rail system is built into the deck rather than bolted on. That is a purchasing point as much as an engineering one: rolling jacks and an oil drain pan are sold separately, so a shop can buy the lift now and add wheels-free capability or fluid handling when the work justifies it, without drilling, welding or replacing the runways.

The approach ramps are diamond plate, which gives positive traction on the drive-up, and the multiple locking positions mean the deck can be parked at a working height that suits the job and the technician rather than at whatever height is available.

This model's specification sheet records it as ALI/ETL certified. The reason to care is narrow and worth stating precisely: a third-party lift safety listing is what an insurer, a corporate fleet policy or a local inspector will ask for by name, and a lift carrying one removes that as a topic.

Shipping and delivery

This lift ships as freight within the lower 48 states, and the freight cost is quoted live at checkout for your own address rather than baked into this page — rates move, and a number written here would be wrong within months.

Plan the unload before the truck is booked. A freight carrier brings the shipment to the kerb and getting it off the trailer is the receiver's job, so you need a forklift or telehandler with the reach and rating for a crate this size on site — or you can collect from the carrier's terminal, which is often the simpler answer for a shop without its own material handling. Warehouse pickup is also available on this listing. A delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when that delivery type is selected.

Inspect before you sign. Walk the crates with the driver, count the pieces against the packing list and write any damage on the bill of lading before the truck leaves — a bent tube, a torn wrap, a crushed corner, a shifted pallet. A clean signature closes the carrier's liability, and a claim raised the following morning is a much harder conversation than a note made at the kerb.
