Challenger 4030EFX — 30,000 lb with the shortest list of things you have to install first

The price of a heavy four-post is rarely the price of the project. What actually decides the budget is the work around it: the electrical service, the compressed air, the concrete, the floor space. The 4030EFX is the version of this platform that asks least of all four. It is the shortest chassis in the family at 344", it sits in a bay Challenger states at 31' x 17', it runs a 3 HP motor on 208 - 230V single phase, and its lock release wants nothing more exotic than shop air at 90 - 120 psi.

None of that comes out of the lift's rating. It still carries 30,000 lb and still raises the deck to 71.75".

The four prerequisites, priced honestly

  • Electrical. Single phase, 208 - 230V, 3 HP. For most shops this is an existing circuit and a disconnect, not a service upgrade — which is often the largest hidden cost on a heavy-lift quote.
  • Compressed air. 90 - 120 psi at the lift for the lock release. Cheap if you have a compressor, a real line item if you do not, and consistently the thing left off a bay-preparation checklist.
  • Concrete. Depth, strength, anchor layout and flatness to Challenger's stated requirements. This is the buyer's responsibility and the one worth paying somebody to confirm rather than assuming.
  • Floor. 31' x 17' minimum recommended bay, against a lift measuring 344" by 172.75".

Which deck this is — worth reading before you order

The 4030 family is offered with either a general-service deck or an alignment deck, and the model code is the only place that shows. Challenger's published feature list for the 4030EFX does not include the recessed turn plate pockets that the alignment-deck variants carry, and its specification sheet publishes no two-wheel alignment maximum, while the alignment models in the same family publish one. On that evidence this is the general-service deck.

Some of the older marketing copy attached to this listing has described it as an alignment lift with recessed turn plate pockets, which does not match the published feature list. We would rather flag the discrepancy than quietly pick whichever reading sells better. If this lift is going into an alignment bay, contact us before ordering and we will confirm the deck configuration against the current factory sheet.

What is not in doubt: it is cable-driven on heavy steel sheaves and cables, it is ALI/ETL certified, and it remains compatible with current camera imaging alignment systems.

The deck itself

Runways are 24" wide and stand just 8.5" off the floor, adjustable from 46" to 52" apart, with diamond-plate approach ramps. Low runways are worth more than they sound: the shallower the approach angle, the less likely a long front overhang or a low-slung body is to make contact on the way up.

Column height is 92.25", the drive-through between columns is 282.625", and there is 152" clear between the inside faces. That drive-through figure is the one that decides whether a vehicle exits forwards, which on a busy bay is a workflow question rather than a specification question. Maximum wheelbase is 281".

Lock ladders that admit the floor is not flat

Every shop floor slopes somewhere — for drainage, from settlement, or from twenty years of traffic. A lift with factory-fixed lock positions has to be shimmed into agreement with a floor like that, and the shimming is only ever as good as the afternoon it was done in. Adjustable lock ladders put that adjustment into the lift itself, so an installer can set the four columns to lock together on the slab that exists. Multiple positions then let the deck park at a working height rather than only at full rise, and one air-actuated control releases all four columns simultaneously.

Perfect For

  • Heavy general service — brake, driveline, suspension and inspection work at 30,000 lb.
  • Smaller commercial shops taking their first heavy lift, where the install cost matters as much as the lift.
  • Fleet bays that are tight on length and cannot give up the extra building the longer chassis in this family needs.
  • Single-phase premises — this is the requirement that most often makes a heavy lift possible or impossible.

What ships with it

Columns, runways, approach ramps, the power unit and the single-point lock release. Rolling jacks and an oil drain pan are separate purchases and mount to the built-in runway rail system that comes as part of the lift, so adding them later needs an order and not a welder. The lift is finished in black.

The bullets below are the series list

Challenger's feature list covers the whole 4030 range and quotes all three of the family's wheelbase options rather than this model's single figure, which is 281". Where the list and the tables above appear to differ, the tables are the model-specific values — and if a line matters to your decision, ask us and we will confirm it against the factory sheet.

The certification is a real one

Challenger records this model as ALI/ETL certified, and the part that counts is that it is a third-party listing: an independent testing body examined the design and issued a document, rather than the manufacturer declaring its own product conforming. That is the distinction an insurer, a fleet safety auditor or a local inspector is drawing when they ask whether a lift is certified — and it is not something every heavy lift on the market can answer. Ask us if you need the current certificate for your records.

Freight and delivery

Freight shipment to the lower 48 states, with the cost quoted live at checkout for your address rather than printed here where it would go out of date. Arrange unloading before it arrives: a forklift rated for the crate, or a collection from the carrier's terminal. Residential delivery is available and adds a residential fee. Inspect the shipment against the bill of lading before you sign — note any damage or shortage on the paperwork while the driver is there, photograph it and let us know the same day.

Warranty

The manufacturer administers warranty; claims start at our warranty claims page. Leave a suspect part in one piece until the claim is open, because a component that has been dismantled usually cannot be inspected as failed.
