Challenger 4030EAX — a full alignment deck that fits a bay you already have

Alignment projects usually die on floor space rather than on budget. The 4030EAX is the answer to that: a 30,000 lb four-post with a proper alignment deck, on a chassis 344" long, in a bay Challenger states as 31' x 17' minimum. Three feet of building length is often the whole difference between a project that fits and one that needs a wall moved.

Nothing has been taken out of the deck to get there. Recessed turn plate pockets are fitted, the lift works with current camera imaging alignment systems, and it is ALI/ETL certified. What is shorter is the chassis, and therefore the vehicle it will take.

Two numbers, and they are not the same number

Maximum wheelbase is 281". Maximum two-wheel alignment is 256". A vehicle can sit safely on this lift and still be beyond what it will align, so check your fleet against both figures rather than the larger one. It is a small piece of diligence that prevents a large disappointment, and the fact that Challenger publishes the second number at all is a point in the lift's favour — plenty of alignment lifts on the market publish only the first.

The bay, in the order you should measure it

Length first: 344" of lift inside a recommended 31' bay. Then width: the lift is 172.75" across, in a bay Challenger wants at 17'. Then the drive-through, which is 282.625" between columns with 152" clear on the inside faces — that is what determines whether a vehicle can be driven straight off the front. Then height: columns stand 92.25", and the runway surface climbs to 71.75" at full rise, so your true working headroom is measured from the lowest thing hanging in the bay.

Then the services. A 3 HP motor runs on 208 - 230V single phase, which means most shops will not need a three-phase supply installed. The lock release is air-operated and wants 90 - 120 psi delivered to the lift; that requirement is the one most often left off a bay-preparation list. Concrete depth, concrete strength, anchor layout and — for an alignment lift especially — floor flatness are the buyer's responsibility to verify against Challenger's stated requirements before installation is scheduled. Alignment readings reference the runways, and the runways reference the floor.

Why recessed turn plate pockets are the feature that matters

Turn plates sitting on top of a runway raise the front of the vehicle relative to the rear, put a step where technicians walk, and introduce a height difference the geometry has to be told about. Recessing them into the deck removes all three problems at once: the wheels sit at deck level, the vehicle sits flat, and the runway stays a runway when the plates are not in use. It is the single clearest difference between a lift built to align and a service lift you can align on if you are careful.

Cable drive, and adjustable lock ladders

The 4030 is cable-driven on heavy steel sheaves and cables. The lock ladders are adjustable, which is a quiet concession to the reality that no shop floor is flat — they let the installer bring all four columns into agreement on the slab as it is rather than as it was drawn. Multiple lock positions let the deck park where the work is, and a single air-actuated control releases the four columns together instead of one at a time.

Runways are 24" wide and only 8.5" above the floor, spaced from 46" to 52", with diamond-plate approach ramps. That low deck height keeps the approach angle shallow, which is what a long front overhang needs to get on without contact.

Perfect For

  • Shops adding alignment to a building that was never designed for a heavy alignment bay.
  • Medium-duty and light commercial fleets whose vehicles sit inside the 281" and 256" limits.
  • Single-phase premises — the electrical requirement here is genuinely modest.
  • Mixed-use bays that need to do general service between alignment jobs.

In the crate, and not in the crate

The lift ships as columns, runways, approach ramps, power unit and lock-release hardware. Rolling jacks and an oil drain pan are ordered separately. Both attach to the built-in runway rail system, which is part of the lift, so a later addition is a purchase rather than a modification. Finish is black.

Reading the feature list further down

Challenger's bullets describe the 4030 series and therefore quote all three of the family's wheelbase options. The one that applies to the 4030EAX is 281", as shown above. If any line on that list bears on your decision, ask us and we will check it against the current factory sheet before you order.

What ALI/ETL certification actually means here

Challenger's specification for this model records it as ALI/ETL certified. The value in that is the word third-party: an independent testing body has examined the design and issued a listing, which is a different document from a manufacturer stating that its own product conforms. When an insurer, a fleet safety programme or a local inspector asks whether a lift is certified, the independent listing is what they mean. We can obtain the current certificate if you need one for an inspection file.

Freight and receiving

Ships freight, lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for your delivery address rather than quoted in this description. You will need to get it off the truck: a forklift rated for the crate, or a terminal collection you book with the carrier. Residential delivery is available for a residential fee. Inspect the load before signing the bill of lading — count it, look closely at the crate corners and any exposed steel, write anything you find on the paperwork before the driver leaves, photograph it, and call us that day.

Warranty

Warranty is handled by the manufacturer through our warranty claims page. Do not strip a suspect assembly before the claim is filed; a part that has been opened is usually treated as one that can no longer be assessed.
