Description
-The scissor lift with nothing running across the middle
Almost every scissor lift ties its two frames together with a cross member. It is the cheap way to keep both halves rising in step, and it is also a steel bar lying across the floor under the car, exactly where a technician wants to stand. The SP-7XE does not have one. Each frame bolts to your slab independently and is pressurised by its own hydraulic cylinder, and the strength that would have come from a cross tube is built into a reinforced steel base and a reinforced top rail instead.
That single design decision is the reason to buy this lift rather than a cheaper scissor. It is a 7,000 lbs (3,175 kg) frame-engaging lift that rises to 70.5" (1,791 mm) in about 45 seconds and collapses to 6.5" (165 mm), and when it is up you can walk the full length of the underbody without a bar in the way.
Why an open centre is worth paying for
Exhaust sections, transmission crossmembers, fuel and brake lines, subframe bolts, floor pan repairs — the work that pays on a lift is nearly all done standing directly under the middle of the car. On a cross-member scissor you learn to work around the bar: stooping past it, reaching over it, dragging a jack around it. Over a year of daily use that is real time, and it is also how people take chunks out of their knuckles.
Removing the cross member also simplifies installation, because there is no tube to level between two frames — each frame is set and anchored on its own. What replaces it is heavy boxed-steel formed base framing, which is what stops the vehicle rocking side to side as it comes up. A scissor lift that moves under load is a scissor lift nobody trusts.
Will It Fit?
- Floor. 165" (4,190 mm) overall length, and the lift is adjustable between 81.5" (2,068 mm) and 87.5" (2,218 mm) wide — narrow it for a tight bay or widen it to suit the vehicles you actually service. Add walking room at both ends and drive-on space in front.
- Ceiling. Maximum height raised is 70.5" (1,791 mm), so your roof has to clear that plus the tallest vehicle you intend to lift, plus anything hanging from it.
- Collapsed height. 6.5" (165 mm). This is the surface-mount model, so that is a permanent step in your floor, driven over on ramps. If a flat floor matters more than a simple installation, the flush-mount version of this lift is a different model, sold separately.
- Platform and power. Each platform is 62.5" (1,590 mm) by 22" (554 mm) and engages the vehicle frame, not the wheels. The motor is rated 208-240 VAC / 50-60 Hz / 1Ph; have an electrician confirm the circuit before delivery day, not after.
Our record does not state a required concrete thickness or strength. That figure is in the installation manual linked on this page, and it is not one to guess at — a scissor lift concentrates its whole load into a small anchored footprint. Confirming ceiling height, floor condition and electrical supply is the buyer's responsibility, and we will put the anchoring requirement in writing on request.
Two cylinders, one per frame
The SP-7XE runs two extra-large hydraulic cylinders, one pressurising each frame, rather than one cylinder driving both through linkage. The practical result is a balanced rise: neither side leads, so the vehicle does not walk on its contact blocks as it lifts. Each cylinder carries an integrated flow restrictor, which is the part that matters on the rare bad day — if a hose ruptures or a seal lets go, the restrictor meters the fluid escaping and the platform settles instead of dropping.
Locks released from one place
The pneumatic safety locks are released from a single operator stand. Nobody has to crouch at the frame and lift a latch by hand while the lift is loaded, which is the moment most lock-related injuries happen. The locks disengage as the lift lowers and re-engage automatically at each position on the way up, seamlessly following the movement of the frames, and there are multiple locking heights so you can set the car at a comfortable working level rather than at full rise every time.
The wear points, and the fittings that keep them alive
A scissor lift lives or dies on its pivot pins. The SP-7XE uses hardened pins fitted with Zerk grease fittings, so the wear areas can actually be lubricated on a weekly or monthly schedule instead of being sealed and forgotten. A dry pivot is what makes an old scissor lift jerk on the way up, and it is also what elongates a bore until the structure needs work. This is the least glamorous feature on the page and probably the one that decides how the lift feels in year eight.
Frame contact blocks that stay put
Four rubber contact blocks come standard. Because this is a frame-engaging lift, the block is the only thing between several thousand pounds of car and the platform, so thickness and surface texture are not cosmetic. These are thick, sturdy and textured at the contact face so that a correctly placed block does not creep off the lift point as the suspension unloads.
Perfect For
- Full-service repair shops that need a second or third bay lift and cannot give up the floor to columns.
- Quick-lube and inspection bays, where the lift is up and down all day and the open centre saves seconds every cycle.
- Home and enthusiast garages with limited width, since the lift itself takes no overhead space at all.
- Shops that also want the floor back — at 6.5" (165 mm) collapsed, the bay is usable for other work when the lift is down.
What's in the Box
Taken from this lift's own feature list: the frame-engaging platforms with pneumatic safety locks, hardened pivot pins with Zerk fittings, dual hydraulic cylinders, the maintenance-free electric-hydraulic power unit with ergonomic controls, four durable cushioned rubber contact blocks, and the documentation set — graphic safety decals, maintenance decals, a vehicle lifting point guide and a safety instruction placard for training staff. Read the manual through before installation or first use.

Certification, stated honestly
Our record for this lift carries no third-party safety listing, and we are not going to imply one. That is a statement about the paperwork we hold, not a judgement on the machine.
An independent North American lift safety listing means an outside body has examined the design and listed the product; a manufacturer's own declaration is a different document and does not replace it. Some insurers, fleet policies and local code officials require the independent kind before a lift is signed off in a commercial workplace. If that applies to you, ask us in writing before you order and we will go back to the manufacturer rather than guessing on a product page.
Shipping and delivery
Freight only, to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for your own address — which is why no shipping figure appears on this page.
Delivery is kerbside. Arrange unloading first: a forklift and an operator on site, or collection from the freight terminal, which for a crate this size is often the easier route. Warehouse pickup is available for this brand from our BendPak locations, and a residential address carries a residential fee. Inspect the shipment before you sign and write any damage onto the bill of lading at the time — a clean signature makes a later claim very hard to win.
Warranty
The manufacturer's warranty document is linked on this page; read the term and the exclusions there rather than any summary of them. Whatever the terms, never dismantle a component you intend to claim on — photograph the fault, leave it assembled and contact us first. A stripped part is the usual reason a sound claim is refused.
