Description
-The HD-9 Is the Short One — and That Is Why Most Garages Can Take It
Every four-post lift in the 9,000 lb class raises roughly the same weight. What separates them is how much building they demand. The BendPak HD-9 is the compact one: 174" outside length, 200.5" overall including ramps, on columns only 88" tall. Its runways are 158.25" long, appreciably shorter than the extended-length models in the same family.
Will It Fit?
Depth. Outside length is 174"; overall length with the approach ramps is 200.5". Measure your bay from the door opening to whatever is actually at the back wall — shelving, a water heater, a workbench — not to the wall itself.
Ceiling. Columns are 88". Maximum rise is 70" and maximum lifting height to the top of the runway is 75". If you plan to stack, add the height of the upper vehicle to that 75" figure and compare against your lowest overhead obstruction, including the garage door track and opener.
Width. Overall width is 110.25". The figures that decide whether a vehicle can get on are the inner ones: width between columns 100.25", which BendPak also states as 8.35 ft, and drive-thru clearance between the carriages 86.5", stated as 7.25 ft. Measure your widest vehicle mirror-to-mirror.
Runways and wheelbase. Runways are 19" wide and 158.25" long, adjustable to 35" or 41" apart, putting the centerline at 56.75" or 63" and the outside edges at 75.75" or 82". Because this is the short-runway model, the minimum wheelbase table is more generous than on the longer lifts: full rated capacity at 115", 75% capacity at 100", 50% at 85" and 25% at 70". Check your vehicle's wheelbase against that table — it is the number that decides how much of the 9,000 lb rating you actually get.
Power. 220 VAC / 60 Hz / 1 Ph. Noise is rated 45 dB.
Your responsibility. Bay dimensions, slab suitability and the electrical supply are yours to confirm before delivery. Read the site-requirements section of the installation manual, and have an electrician verify the circuit rather than assuming an existing outlet will do.
Cables, Sheaves and the 640% Claim
Four lifting cables carry the vehicle through four columns, driven by a single hydraulic cylinder mounted underneath the runway. BendPak rates each cable at 14,400 lbs and states the four together at 640% of the lift's rated capacity. The reason a manufacturer over-engineers this particular part by that margin is specific to how a four-post lift is used: a parking lift spends weeks with a vehicle sitting on it, and a cable under sustained load is a different engineering problem from one that lifts and lowers a few times a day.
The construction is heavy-duty 3/8" aircraft cable, run over dual-hub sheaves. Dual-hub sheaves are wider and more expensive to make, and the reason they exist is fatigue at the bend — a cable working over a narrow sheave concentrates stress exactly where cables fail. A wider sheave increases the bend radius and lowers that stress. The rollers are oversized and self-lubricating on 1.25" roller axles, and internal anti-sway slider blocks in each column control carriage rock under a shifting load. BendPak's own claim for the design is that, used properly, it will work as well in 10 years as it did on day one.
Base Plates, Casters and Standing Free
The columns sit on 10" x 12" base plates. On a freestanding lift the base plate does work that a two-post lift hands to anchor bolts: it spreads the column load over a wider patch of slab and resists the tipping moment a raised, off-centre vehicle generates. Site the lift on level ground and the design does not depend on drilling your floor.
Perfect For
- The standard two-car garage. This is the model whose footprint most ordinary buildings will actually take.
- Storing a second vehicle without giving up the bay underneath — the reason four-post lifts outsell two-post lifts in home garages.
- Small independent shops wanting a service lift that also parks, with rolling-jack compatibility for wheels-free work.
- Shops that rearrange. Freestanding, castered and short — it is the four-post lift you can move without a project plan.
What's in the Box
The lift ships as a freestanding four-post assembly: four columns on 10" x 12" base plates, runways with the rail kit, the electric-hydraulic power unit with a customizable mounting position, enclosed cables, sheaves, lock ladders and removable approach ramps. Everything BendPak lists as optional is a separate purchase — the caster kit, drip trays, solid deck, drive-thru ramps, longer approach ramps and RJ-45 rolling jacks. Order them with the lift if you want them on installation day.

Three things to confirm with us before you order
Runway deck height. BendPak's marketing copy for the 9,000 lb four-post runways describes a low 4.5" deck, while the specification table for this model lists a minimum runway height of 5". Half an inch rarely decides an installation, but if you are working at the limit of a lowered car's ground clearance, ask us and we will confirm against the current factory drawing.
Overall length. The same two sources give 200" in one place and 200.5" in the other. If your bay depth is that tight, let us verify before you plan around either figure.
Runway configuration. This listing's title refers to a super-wide runway configuration, while the specification table describes the standard 35" or 41" runway spacing shared across the range. If runway width is the reason you are buying, contact us and we will confirm exactly which configuration ships against this listing before you place the order. We would rather answer that now than have the wrong lift arrive on a freight truck.
Certification, Stated Plainly
BendPak's published claims for this model are a European conformity marking — CE approved and certified as meeting or exceeding European Standard EN-1493 — and an ETL approval covering the electrical side.
Be precise about what that is. A European conformity marking is the manufacturer's own declaration against European directives; it is not a North American third-party lift safety listing and does not substitute for one. Some insurers, fleet safety policies and local jurisdictions require that listing specifically. If yours does, get the requirement in writing and contact us — we will confirm this model's current status before you order.
Shipping and Delivery
Ships by freight to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout for your destination so the rate is current rather than an estimate. You must be able to unload the shipment or take pickup at the carrier's terminal — it arrives crated and heavy, so plan for a forklift, a loading dock, or an equipment trailer and enough hands. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee.
Inspect before you sign. Check the crate and its contents while the driver is present and note any damage on the bill of lading before signing. A clean signed BOL makes a freight damage claim very hard to pursue.
Warranty
Covered by BendPak's published warranty, linked on this page. That document governs coverage, term and the claim process, and nothing here restates a term it does not state.
Do not disassemble, modify or attempt a repair before filing a warranty claim. It is the most common reason a valid claim is denied. Stop using the equipment, photograph the fault in place, and contact us first.
