The number that decides whether a high-roof van fits is 175.5 in., not 181 in.

The BendPak 10APX-181 is the tall-beam member of the 10AP two-post family, built for shops that keep running out of headroom on cargo vans and high-cab trucks. Its structure stands 181 in. (4,597 mm) tall. But the figure that actually stops a vehicle is lower than that: this lift carries a padded overhead safety shutoff bar, and BendPak publishes the floor-to-overhead-switch distance as 175.5 in. (4,458 mm). The bar is what a van roof touches, and touching it cuts the lift. Measure your bay against 181 in.; measure your tallest vehicle against 175.5 in. Those are two different jobs and people conflate them all the time.

Underneath that beam is a 10,000 lbs. (4,536 kg) two-post lift with an expandable top beam, triple-telescoping arms and forged-steel automatic arm restraints.

Will It Fit?

Take these to the bay with a tape measure before you order. On a two-post lift the room is the constraint far more often than the vehicle.

• Overhead. Overall height 181 in. (4,597 mm); floor to the shutoff bar 175.5 in. (4,458 mm). Allow room to stand the columns up during installation.
• Width. The top beam is expandable, so this model has two published widths: overall 135 in. (3,429 mm) or 145 in. (3,683 mm), outside the columns 127 in. (3,226 mm) or 137 in. (3,480 mm).
• Between the columns. 108.25 in. (2,750 mm) narrow, or 118.25 in. (3,004 mm) wide.
• Drive-through. 92 in. (2,337 mm) narrow, or 102 in. (2,591 mm) wide — the gap between the carriages, which on a van matters as much as the ceiling.
• Getting under a low car. Minimum height with the pad fitted is 4 in. (102 mm).
• Power. 220V single-phase, run to the location shown in the installation manual before the freight arrives.

Ceiling height, bay width and the electrical supply are the buyer's responsibility to confirm; a lift that will not stand up in the room is not a warranty matter. Our record does not state a concrete thickness or strength requirement for this model. On a two-post lift every ounce of load goes into the anchors, so please do not assume the slab is adequate. The installation manual linked on this page carries the figure, and we will confirm it in writing before you order if you ask.

If working height is the reason you are buying a high-rise lift, ask us to confirm the rise in writing before you order. We would rather get the answer from the manufacturer than quote whichever of our own fields flatters the lift. Time to full rise is 45 seconds.

Forged arm restraints, and why they exist

Swing-arm restraints are not there for the moment the car goes up. They are there for the moment something changes while it is up. Pull a gearbox, lean on a stuck subframe bolt, and the centre of balance shifts suddenly across arms extended a long way from the columns. BendPak's forged-steel Automatic Swing Arm Restraint System holds each arm against more than 2000 pounds of load-holding force and engages on its own as the lift rises, with a quick-release lever when you want the arms to move.

The safety locks follow the same principle: they engage automatically through the rise, spaced every 3 in. in each column, and a single-point release drops all of them together on the way down.

Arms that retract as far as they extend

Arm reach is usually quoted at the long end, which tells you half the story. A triple-telescoping arm matters for how short it goes as much as how far it stretches: the nested design lets the inner tube retract back through the arm assembly instead of stopping at an end plate. Front arms come in to 22 in. (559 mm) and out to 47.5 in. (1,207 mm); rears run 29.5 in. (749 mm) to 57 in. (1,448 mm).

The Bi-Metric arms are the other half of it: the same four arms handle symmetric and asymmetric lifting without swapping anything, a 2-in-1 design that saves the swap when a low sports car follows a pickup onto the same lift. Low-Pro swing arms use a shorter channel profile and a dropped-end pad receiver, so there is less to catch a side skirt or running board on a lowered chassis. Each arm is rated to carry up to 2,500 lbs. (1,134 kg).

Cable, sheaves and finish

Equalizing cable is 3/8 in. (10 mm) high-strength multi-strand galvanized steel over deliberately oversized sheaves. Sheave diameter is the quiet one: a cable bent around a small wheel fatigues faster than the same cable bent around a large one, so this is a service-life decision rather than a spec-sheet decision. Columns and beam carry a powder-coat finish; the power system is electric over hydraulic with dual direct-drive cylinders.

Optional 2.5 in. and 5 in. stackable adapters and column-mounted racks are sold separately. Anchors and anything not listed above should not be assumed to be in the crate.

Certification, stated plainly

BendPak's own feature list states that this lift is ALI certified: a third party assessed the design against the North American lift safety standard, which is a different and stronger thing than a manufacturer declaring conformity for itself. Insurers, fleet contracts and local inspectors that ask for that listing usually want documentation tied to the model and serial number rather than a line on a web page — ask us and we will get it from the manufacturer before you order. The lift is also covered by a United States patent (Patent No. US11820632B2) and corresponding patents in Canada, China and elsewhere.

Shipping and Delivery

This lift ships by freight to the lower 48 states as one long crate, listed at 162 in. x 24 in. x 30 in. and 1,902 lbs. You will need a forklift, a dock, or enough hands and equipment to get it off the truck; if you have none of those, take terminal pickup instead and bring suitable equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout with the freight.

Inspect the crate before you sign. Look for crushed corners, punctures and shifted banding, and write any damage on the bill of lading in front of the driver. A clean signed bill of lading is your statement that the shipment arrived undamaged and is hard to unwind afterwards. Photographs at the tailgate cost nothing and settle claims.
