Description
-Atlas Platinum PVL15: the power unit is the part worth reading about
Two-post lifts are mostly steel, and steel is steel. The component that decides how a lift feels on its four hundredth cycle of the month is the power unit, and it is the component nobody lists. The PVL15 ships with an ALLY Hydraulic AL2300 unit certified by MET Laboratories Inc. for electrical compliance in the United States and Canada, built with extra heavy-duty armatures, additional motor windings and increased silver content in the wires and connections. The result is less heat for the same work, and constant torque held right through the lift rather than falling away as the motor warms.
It also carries a 2 yr warranty on the power unit specifically — a separate term from the lift's structure and hydraulics, which is unusual enough to be worth noticing. Around it sits a heavy-duty, commercial-grade, 15,000 lb capacity overhead two-post lift with symmetric arms, built for long wheelbase trucks and service trucks rather than for cars that happen to be big.
Will It Fit?
An overhead two-post lift is bought on capacity and installed on measurements. Every one of these needs checking against your building before you order.
- Ceiling — the one that stops installations. Overall height is 174 1/2", which is 14' 6 1/2". That is the structure alone. Your roof, your lights, your door tracks and your heaters all have to clear it, and you need working room above the overhead beam, not a clearance of nothing.
- Taller vehicles. A Height Extension Kit is available that raises the lift by an extra 2 feet. If you are near the limit, decide about that kit before the lift is anchored, not after.
- Floor width. Overall floor width is 148" (12' 4"), and outside column to outside column is 135" (11' 3"). Add door-opening and walking room on both sides.
- Between the columns. Inside column measurement is 119 1/4" (9' 11 1/4") — the spec fields round that to 10 ft.
- Drive-through. 107 1/2" (8' 11 1/2") between the carriages, rounded to 9 ft in the spec fields. This is the hard limit on how wide a vehicle can be driven straight in, and it strands more buyers than capacity ever does.
- Concrete. A minimum of 6" at a 3000 psi rating. On a 15,000 lb overhead lift this is not advisory. An unknown slab, a thin topping or a floor with a history needs a core check before you order the lift.
- Power. 220 volt, single phase, with a 30 amp breaker recommended.
- Oil. 3-5 gallons of AW32 or AW46, which is not included.
Measuring the bay, verifying the slab and arranging the circuit are the buyer's responsibility. Please ask us before you order rather than after the freight arrives — a ceiling that is four inches short is not a problem anyone can fix on the day.
Direct-drive cylinders and what "symmetric" means for a truck
The PVL15 runs dual direct-drive hydraulic cylinders: the cylinder acts on the carriage rather than through a chain-and-sheave multiplier, and each column has its own. On a service truck with a bed full of tools and a genuinely offset centre of gravity, that is what keeps both carriages travelling together instead of one leading and the equalisation system chasing it. Level lifting on an uneven load is a structural argument, not a comfort one.
The equalisation cables are 3/8", heavy duty. The arms are symmetric — both sides the same length, the vehicle centred between the columns, which is the right geometry for long, heavy vehicles. Carriages are padded, and the arm restraints are a professional-grade lock system rather than a friction gear.
Columns, base and the parts that carry the load
The columns measure 8" by 14 1/2" in section and are formed from 8mm steel — the wall thickness is the number that matters, and it is one very few lift listings publish at all. Each column sits on a base plate of 21" by 48", which is what spreads 15,000 lbs plus the moment of the load into that 6" of concrete.
Minimum arm height is 6", so a low car goes up without ramps or blocks. Adapters are supplied at 5" and 10", four of each, on a 2.75" arm hole and peg — worth knowing if you buy adapters separately, because peg diameter is where third-party ones stop fitting.
Perfect For
- Commercial truck and service-truck shops — the capacity, the symmetric arms and the extra-tall column are all pointed at this.
- Fleet workshops where the mix runs from a van to a loaded utility body and one lift has to cover all of it.
- Dealership and municipal service departments that need documented lift certification to put equipment into service.
- High-bay independent shops with the ceiling to use it, especially those considering the height extension for taller vehicles.
What's in the Box
- Free 8 piece truck adapter set
- 4 screw-up frame adapters
- Adapters in 5" and 10" heights, four of each

Maximum lift height: two figures, both in our data
Our sources disagree on this one measurement, so here is both rather than a guess:
| Source | Without adapters | With adapters |
|---|---|---|
| Structured spec field | 72" | 88" |
| Manufacturer specification sheet | 72 3/4" | 87 1/2" |
The two are within an inch of each other, but if your decision turns on the exact figure — a mezzanine, a duct run, a door header — confirm it with us and we will check the factory document before you order. Maximum rise under the arms is separately given as 72", or 6 ft.
Certification, honestly
The PVL15 is an ALI certified lift, stated in its own feature list rather than inferred by us. Some commercial insurance policies, some fleet operations and some local jurisdictions require that certification by name before a lift can be put into service, and a lift without it can fail an inspection that has nothing to do with how well it was built. If you are buying into a dealership network, a municipal fleet or an insured commercial shop, this is one of the models that answers it. Verify your own requirement rather than taking a web page's word for it, ours included.
Shipping and delivery
Freight only, lower 48. The lift crates at 2,600 lbs, so you must be able to take it off the truck: a forklift rated for the weight, a loading dock, or a collection at the carrier's terminal. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, and freight is quoted live at checkout rather than printed here, because carrier pricing moves. Note that the manufacturer's feature list marks this part number as freight prepaid — check the terms shown at checkout and ask us if they are not what you expect.
Inspect the shipment before you sign. Columns, carriages, arms and the power unit carton, with the driver present: corners, banding, wrap. Write anything you find onto the bill of lading before signing. A clean signature states that everything arrived undamaged.
Warranty
Three separate terms, which is why they are worth listing separately:
- 5 yr structural
- 2 yr hydraulic
- 2 yr on the power unit
The power unit term is the one to notice: it is the component doing the work, and it is covered on its own terms rather than folded into the hydraulic warranty.
One rule protects any of those claims: do not disassemble the lift, the cylinders or the power unit before the claim is agreed. Photograph the fault, call us, and let the process run — a stripped assembly is usually where a warranty conversation ends.
