Description
-Atlas BP10000X: a 10,000 lb two-post that fits under an 11 foot ceiling
Every overhead two-post ends in a crossbar somewhere above 11 feet, and that crossbar is why a great many garages never get a lift at all. The BP10000X removes it. It is a baseplate, open-top design: the hydraulic and equalisation runs travel through a plate across the floor instead of a beam over your head, so the tallest part of the lift is the column itself at 111 7/8" (9' 3 7/8"). If you need to put a one-ton dually on a lift and you have an 11 foot ceiling, this is the geometry that makes it possible.
It is not a compromise elsewhere. The columns are 6mm steel with welded support gussets, the arms are super-symmetric, and the dual hydraulic chain-drive cylinders are built to an ANSI standard — a commercial-grade 10,000 lbs lift that happens to solve a ceiling problem.
The trade you are making, stated plainly
A baseplate lift puts a plate on your floor between the columns. You drive over it, you roll a jack over it, and it is there permanently. Some shops will not have that; most home garages never notice it after week one. In exchange you get the open top — nothing above the vehicle at all, so roof racks, tall vans and a low ceiling all stop being problems, and there is no shut-off bar to set. Knowing which of those two things bothers you more is the whole decision between this lift and an overhead model.
Will It Fit?
- Ceiling. Overall height is 111 7/8" (9' 3 7/8"). Add the height of the vehicle you intend to raise plus your working clearance; the columns themselves will not be your limit.
- Slab. Requires a minimum of 4" of concrete with a 3000 psi rating. A two-post is held down entirely by its anchors, so this is the specification to verify first — before ceiling, before power. An unknown slab is worth the cost of a core test.
- Power. 220 volt single phase, and a 30 amp breaker is recommended. Book the electrician before the lift lands.
- Floor width. Overall floor width is 139 1/8" (11' 7 1/8"), with 134 1/2" (11' 2 1/2") outside column to outside column. Each column sits on a base of 17 1/2" x 21 1/2".
- Drive-through and clear width. Drive-thru is 101 1/4" (8' 5 1/4"); inside column to inside column is 112 1/4" (9' 4 1/4").
- Fluid. 3-5 Gallons of AW32/AW46, not supplied with the lift.
Measuring the room, verifying the concrete and arranging the circuit are the buyer's responsibility. None of it is difficult, but all of it needs doing before delivery, and a slab that will not hold an anchor is the one problem no lift can engineer around.
Column steel, gussets, and why oversized posts matter on a baseplate
The columns measure 9 1/2" x 11" in 6mm steel and carry welded support gussets that increase column strength at the point where load is highest. On a baseplate lift this is more consequential than on an overhead one. An overhead design ties the two columns together at the top, so the beam resists the columns splaying under load. A baseplate lift has no such tie above the vehicle — the floor plate and the columns themselves do all of it. Section thickness and gusseting are therefore not a spec-sheet flourish here; they are the reason the geometry works at all.
The cylinders are dual hydraulic chain-drive units made to an ANSI standard, which is the certification claim the manufacturer actually makes for this lift and the only one we will repeat. Chain-drive equalisation is what keeps the two carriages travelling together, so a vehicle with an offset centre of gravity — a pickup with a full toolbox over one rear wheel, say — rises level rather than one corner at a time.
Locks and arms
The BP10000X uses a single-point lock release that disengages both columns simultaneously. The alternative — walking around the lift and releasing each column separately while a car hangs on it — is exactly the sort of task people start skipping, so a single release is a safety property rather than a convenience. Super-symmetric arms and automatic arm restraints handle the rest: the restraints engage as the lift rises so an arm cannot swing off a pad, and the powder coat finish is there because a two-post spends its life catching brake fluid, coolant and road salt.
Perfect For
- Low-ceiling commercial bays — the reason this model exists.
- Home garages with a standard residential roof line and a slab that meets the 4" / 3000 psi requirement.
- Shops working tall vehicles: vans, box bodies, and anything with a roof rack that would foul an overhead beam.
- Mixed fleets from a Smart Car to a one-ton dually, within the 10,000 lbs rating.
What's in the Box
A free 12 piece truck adapter set is included, in adapter heights of 4 each 2", 3" and 6", on a 1.5" arm hole and adapter peg. Hydraulic oil is not included and neither is an air supply. Anchors, installation and commissioning should be planned for: this lift is anchored to your floor and should be set up by someone who has installed a two-post before.

Certification, honestly
What the manufacturer claims for this lift is that the dual hydraulic chain-drive cylinders are made to an ANSI standard. That is a component-level statement about how a part is built, and we are repeating it exactly as scoped rather than letting it stand in for something larger. It is not the same thing as the independent North American lift-safety listing — a scheme in which a third party tests the whole lift against a published standard and audits the factory on an ongoing basis. Some insurers, fleet operators and local jurisdictions require equipment carrying that listing. If yours does, confirm it with them in writing before you buy, and speak to us; there are models in our range that carry it.
Shipping and delivery
Freight shipment, lower 48 only, delivered crated and curbside. Unloading is yours to arrange — forklift, telehandler, or a terminal pickup you collect from with suitable equipment. Warehouse pickup is available; the locations and our phone number are further down this page, and one call before you order will save an argument on delivery day. A residential delivery attracts an additional fee, charged once per brand on the order. Inspect the shipment while the driver is still with you: check the column faces, the carriage assemblies and the power unit carton, and write anything you see on the bill of lading before you sign it. Damage discovered after a clean signature is very difficult to claim.
Warranty
5 yr structural and 2 yr hydraulic, parts only — the parts are covered, the labour to fit them is not. Do not take a failed cylinder, hose or power unit apart before the claim has been opened: disassembly is generally treated as your own inspection and can void the claim outright. Take the lift out of service, photograph the failure in place, and start the process on our warranty claims page.
