Atlas 9OHSC Overhead 9,000 lb. 2-Post Lift

The 9OHSC's columns arrive as single pieces. Most two-post listings do not bother with that detail, and it is the most consequential thing about this lift in both directions. A one-piece column has no bolted joint partway up: nothing to work loose, nothing to shim true, no seam where a column that was straight on delivery slowly stops being straight. It is a stiffer, simpler structure than a two-section column assembled on your floor.

It also has to be stood upright whole on installation day, which you should hear from us before the truck arrives. See "Before You Order" below — it is the first thing to settle on this model. Otherwise this is an overhead, open-floor 9,000 lb lift on 220 volt single phase: nothing crosses the floor between the columns, so you can walk, roll a jack and drop an exhaust straight through the bay.

Before You Order: The Ceiling You Need to Install It Is Not the Height of the Lift

The lift's overall height is 142" (11' 10"). That is on this page, on our spec sheet and on the manufacturer's, and it is the height of the finished, standing lift.

It is not the clearance you need to erect it. Single-piece columns have to be raised from horizontal to vertical in one movement, and swinging a column of that length upright needs meaningfully more room overhead than it occupies once standing. Atlas publishes a minimum ceiling requirement specifically for standing these columns up, and it is higher than the 142" installed height.

We will not restate that figure from memory: getting it wrong by an inch is the difference between an installation and an expensive stalemate. Ask us in writing for the erection clearance before you order and we will send you the manufacturer's number. If your ceiling clears the installed height by only a few inches this is not a formality — you can take delivery of a perfectly good lift and be unable to raise the columns.

Will It Fit?

• Overall height 142" (11' 10") installed — and see the erection clearance note above, which governs.
• Overall floor width 133 1/2" (11' 1 1/2"), outside column to outside column 125 1/2" (10' 5 1/2").
• Inside the columns 109 1/2" (9' 1 1/2"), drive-thru 100 1/2" (8' 4 1/2"). Drive-thru is the figure that decides whether a dual-rear-wheel pickup gets between the posts.
• Lift height 76 3/4" without adapters, 87 3/4" with. Minimum arm height 4", which is what gets the arms under a low car at all.
• Floor: minimum 4" of concrete at a 3000 psi rating. This is an anchored lift and the slab is a structural part of it. If you do not know the thickness or age of your concrete, find out before you buy.
• Power: 220 volt single phase, 30 amp breaker recommended. Most home garages do not have this. Budget for an electrician.
• Oil: 3 to 5 gallons of AW32 or AW46, not included.

Measuring the bay, the ceiling, the slab and the route in is the customer's responsibility. We will talk it through before you order at no cost.

Overhead and Open-Floor: What You Are Choosing

An overhead two-post carries its equalising gear across the top of the bay rather than through a baseplate on the floor. The floor between the columns is clear: no plate to trip on, no ramp for a creeper to catch, nothing between you and a transmission you are sliding out. The cost is the overhead beam, which is why the ceiling section above is where this page starts. Choose overhead when the bay has the height and you want the floor; choose a baseplate lift when the ceiling is the constraint.

The columns are 8" x 9 3/8" in 5mm steel, and the carriages carry rubber guards — a small thing that stops a car door meeting a bare steel edge.

Arms, Cylinders and Restraints

The arms are 3-stage at the front and 2-stage at the rear. Front arms need more reach because front lift points sit further inboard relative to where the columns can stand; the extra stage lets a short arm tuck under a low sports car and a long one reach the pinch weld on a crew-cab pickup. Rear arms have easier geometry and get two stages.

Automatic arm restraints lock the arms against swinging once the vehicle's weight is on them — automatic, so nobody can forget the step. Lock release is single-point: one control for both columns rather than an operator walking round releasing one at a time, which is where uneven descent starts. Power comes from dual hydraulic chain-drive cylinders, the chain drive tying the two carriages to each other so the vehicle stays level even when the load on it is not.

Certification, Stated Plainly

Atlas publishes no independent third-party safety listing for the 9OHSC, and we will not imply one. The distinction is between an outside laboratory that tests a lift design against a published standard and then audits the plant that builds it, and a manufacturer stating conformity on its own authority. This lift is sold on the second basis.

On a commercial two-post that is worth asking, because somebody else may be carrying the risk: an insurer writing a garage policy, a landlord's lease conditions, a fleet contract, or a local jurisdiction with its own rules for vehicle lifts. If any apply, confirm the requirement before you buy and ask us — we would far rather answer it now.

Shipping and Delivery

Ships by freight carrier within the lower 48, quoted live at checkout against your actual destination. You must be able to unload it, and Atlas is emphatic. Unloading any of its lifts requires equipment — a forklift, a bobcat or skid steer, or a roll-back wrecker truck — and you should expect delivery on a full-size enclosed tractor-trailer, which will not get down every driveway. Arrange the equipment and check your access before delivery day, or select terminal pickup. A home address rather than a commercial one carries a residential fee.

The published shipping weight is 1,430 lbs. Treat that as the manufacturer's figure and confirm it with us in writing before booking equipment: our own catalogue carries a placeholder weight against this SKU that is plainly not the real one, and we would rather say so than let you hire the wrong machine.

Inspect the crate before you sign: photograph anything wrong, write the damage onto the bill of lading with the driver present, and keep your copy.

Warranty and Installation

5 years structural, 2 years hydraulic, parts only — parts supplied, labour to fit them yours.

One installation step outside the main manual prevents a good share of first-week warranty calls: Atlas publishes a separate cylinder bleeding procedure for this lift, to be carried out immediately after installation. Trapped air is the usual reason a brand-new two-post rises unevenly, drifts or will not reach full height, and it is not a fault. Ask us for that document with your order and do it on day one.

If something does fail, leave the lift assembled. Photograph the fault in place, note what was on the lift and what it was doing, and call us before anything is taken apart. A component that arrives already dismantled has lost the evidence the claim rests on.
