Atlas 74,000 lb Mobile Column Lift System: Four Columns Now, Eight Later

Most lifts are bought once and sized forever. This one is bought in pairs. The Maxima ML4034BC (Atlas ATEML-4034BC) is supplied as four battery-powered columns rated 18,500 lbs each — 74,000 lbs of system capacity — and the same columns can be added to in twos: six columns take the system to 111,000 lbs, eight columns to 148,000 lbs. Nothing is replaced when you expand. The columns you buy today are the columns that are still working when the fleet has grown.

That matters more than it sounds, because column count buys wheelbase as well as weight. Four columns lift a vehicle at four wheels; six and eight columns reach the further axles of tri-axle chassis, transit buses and long trailers without asking each column to work harder.

The 18,500 lb Column

Eighteen thousand five hundred pounds is the heaviest column in this family, and the arithmetic behind the model line is clean: four columns at 18,500 lbs is the 74,000 lbs on the box, six is 111,000 lbs, eight is 148,000 lbs. When a manufacturer's expansion figures divide exactly, it usually means the ratings were derived rather than rounded for a brochure — which is the sort of small consistency worth checking on any lift, and worth saying out loud when it holds.

Each column runs a 2.2 Kw 24V DC motor with two batteries. There is no compressor, no hydraulic pack in the corner of the shop and no cable run: the power supply is on board, and the whole set recharges from an ordinary 110V single-phase cord. A charge covers roughly 10 to 20 lifts, load depending.

Will It Fit?

• Ceiling. Each column is 145" (12' 1") tall overall and lifts to 67" (5' 7"). Measure to the lowest obstruction over the working area, not to the ridge.
• Doorways and storage. Resting height is 88.5" (7' 4.5"), which is what determines whether the columns can be wheeled through an internal door into storage.
• Floor space per column. 43.5" (3' 7.5") wide by 55.5" (4' 7.5") deep, with a 13.25" column body. Four of those need parking space as well as working space.
• Floor. Level concrete, minimum 6" thick — including outdoors, where these columns are explicitly allowed to work. Flatness is as important as depth on a multi-column set.
• Power. A 110V single-phase outlet for charging. That is the whole electrical requirement; there is nothing for an electrician to install.
• Your responsibility. Confirming slab thickness, slab level, ceiling height and door clearance before delivery is the buyer's job. Measure first; a mobile lift is easy to move and impossible to shrink.

Keeping Four Columns Together

Columns operate simultaneously from a single control, and an electronic sync system holds them together through the travel. Each column has its own LCD screen showing that column's exact height, which turns synchronisation from something you trust into something you can read. Safety is doubled deliberately — hydraulic flow control governing movement, mechanical locks carrying the parked load — and every column carries its own emergency stop, so whoever is closest to a problem can stop the set.

Four 32' connection cables link the columns. That length is chosen for reach around a long chassis rather than convenience: it is what lets four columns stand at the wheels of a long-wheelbase vehicle instead of being pulled in towards a control box.

Moving Them Is the Point

Every column sits on a hydraulic pallet-jack chassis. One technician pumps the handle, the column comes up onto its wheels, and it walks to where it is needed — including out of the building. A fixed lift owns its bay whether or not it is in use; these are pushed out of the way and the bay goes back to being floor. For a shop that services vehicles too tall or too long to bring inside, that is not a convenience feature, it is the reason to buy the machine.

Forks adjust for tire diameters from 19" to 44", so the same set handles light-truck rubber and large commercial tires without adapters or lift-point diagrams.

This is an ALI certified system. The distinction that matters to a buyer is between a manufacturer declaring its own product compliant and an independent third party listing it against a North American lift safety standard — this is the second kind. Commercial insurers, fleet operators and some jurisdictions require that listing specifically. If yours does, get the requirement named in writing and we will confirm the paperwork for this model before you order.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight to the lower 48 states, drop shipped from the manufacturer. Four columns come to 6,800 lbs, 1,700 lbs apiece — heavy individually and well past anything a driver can help with. Arrange a forklift with headroom in its rating, or take terminal pickup or warehouse pickup and collect with your own equipment.

Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee. Freight is priced live at checkout against your ZIP code rather than from a fixed table, so what you see is the real lane on the day you buy.

Before you sign: count four columns, look at each one, and write any damage onto the bill of lading while the driver is still there. A clean signature is the carrier's proof that nothing was wrong on arrival, and it is very hard to argue with afterwards.
