AMGO BP-9X: a low-ceiling lift that did not give up its lift height

The usual bargain with a base-plate two-post lift is this: you lose the overhead beam, so the lift fits under a low roof, and in exchange you accept shorter columns and less rise. The BP-9X does not make you take the second half of that deal. It runs the hydraulic crossover along the floor inside a low steel base plate between the columns — nothing overhead, nothing to clear a garage door track or a sprinkler run — and it still takes the pads to 77 inches, or 86 inches with the extension adapters fitted. That is full-height two-post work in a bay that cannot accept an overhead-beam lift.

It is a commercial-grade 9,000 lbs machine on a 2.0HP 220V single-phase power unit, and it is aimed at exactly two buyers: the professional shop whose building will not take a beam, and the home garage with a finished ceiling that still wants a proper full-rise lift rather than a mid-rise compromise.

Will It Fit?

Base-plate lifts move the fitment problem from the ceiling to the floor, and the floor questions are the ones people skip. Check all of these before ordering.

  • Ceiling. The columns stand 111 7/8 inches overall. Nothing crosses above them, so the height of what you drive in is limited by your roof and not by the lift.
  • Rise. 77 inches to the top of the pad without adapters, 86 inches with them, and a maximum rise of 74 inches under the arms. The under-arm figure is what decides whether you can stand under a car.
  • Floor width. Overall width is 136 1/4 inches with 112 1/4 inches between the columns, plus working space on both sides — a bay sized to the footprint is a bay you cannot get a transmission jack around.
  • Drive-through. 100 3/4 inches between the carriages, which governs how wide a vehicle can be driven straight in.
  • The base plate itself. This is the trade you are making: a low steel plate spans the floor between the columns, and any pallet truck, creeper, floor jack or drain pan crossing that bay goes over it.
  • Getting under low cars. Minimum pad height is 3 1/2 inches.
  • Concrete and power. The lift anchors into the slab and runs on a 220V single-phase supply through its 2.0HP power unit.

Verifying your slab, your ceiling and your circuit is the buyer's responsibility. We cannot inspect your floor from here, and concrete that will not hold an anchor is the single most common reason an installation stops on the day.

Four three-stage arms, and what the third stage is actually for

All four arms are three-stage rather than the two-stage arms usual at this price. The extra stage is not about lifting anything heavier; it is about reach, and reach decides whether a vehicle can be picked up at its proper lift points. Three stages let the front arms come in far enough for the pinch welds on a small hatchback and the rear arms go out far enough for the frame points on a crew cab. If your bay sees a genuinely mixed intake, that range is the difference between a lift you trust and one you improvise on.

Automatic arm restraints engage as the lift rises, so the arms lock where you set them and cannot be knocked out of position with a vehicle up.

One release, both columns, and the parts that wear

The BP-9X has a single-point safety release that disengages the locks in both columns simultaneously, plus a dual locking system for redundancy. The practical version: a raised vehicle is held on mechanical locks, not on hydraulic pressure, and lowering it is a one-person operation from one side rather than a walk around the bay with a lever. Anyone who has worked a lift where the second column has to be released by hand knows why this ends up on the specification sheet.

The carriages ride on self-lubricating UHMW polyethylene sliders and bronze bushings — the components that quietly decide how a lift feels in year five, because they do not depend on a greasing schedule that always gets skipped. Synchronisation is by aircraft-quality cable, so both carriages rise together rather than one leading and the vehicle sitting cocked on its arms. A detachable foot guard and tool tray are included, which on a base-plate lift is what stops sockets living on the plate you drive over.

Perfect For

  • Shops in buildings with low or obstructed ceilings — roof trusses, ducting, sprinklers, a garage door track — where an overhead beam simply will not go.
  • Home garages with a finished ceiling that want full-rise access rather than a mid-rise or scissor compromise.
  • Mixed-intake independent workshops, where the three-stage arms earn their keep across small cars and pickups in the same day.
  • Second-bay installations where the building was never designed around a lift.

What's in the Box

Per AMGO's own feature list, the lift ships with the four three-stage arms and their automatic restraints, the single-point safety release and dual lock system, self-lubricating UHMW polyethylene sliders and bronze bushings, aircraft-quality synchronisation cable, and a detachable foot guard and tool tray. Anchor bolts, adapters beyond the standard set, and any truck adapter kit should be confirmed with us before you order rather than assumed.

Two of the rounded figures stored against this product disagree slightly with the factory sheet: a lifting height recorded as 6.3 ft against a measured 77 inches, and clearance under the arms recorded as 6 ft against a measured 74 inches. The measured inch figures are the ones in the table above. The gross weight difference of 1,590 lbs against 1,581 lbs is small but worth confirming with us if you are arranging lifting equipment to a limit.

Certification, stated plainly

AMGO states that this lift is CE approved and certified and that it meets or exceeds European Standard EN-1493. Read it accurately: CE is a conformity marking resting on the manufacturer's own declaration against European directives, EN-1493 being the European standard written for vehicle lifts. It is not the same document as a North American third-party lift safety listing, and it does not substitute for one. In a private garage and in most independent shops that distinction never comes up. It does for some commercial insurance policies, for fleet and municipal operations, and for jurisdictions whose code names a specific listing. Establish what your insurer or inspector requires before you order, not after the columns are anchored.

Shipping and delivery

This ships by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states, with freight quoted live at checkout against your own address, so the figure you see is a current carrier rate rather than a stale estimate. It arrives crated on a standard trailer and getting it to the ground is the receiver's job — a forklift, a machine, or a plan and some help. Where none of those exist, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually easier, because the terminal already has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select it.

Inspect before you sign: crushed corners, bent steel, shifted banding, any trace of oil. Write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there, and photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the load arrived undamaged.

Warranty

AMGO publishes a written warranty covering this product and we hold the document rather than a summary — ask us for the current copy before ordering if the terms matter to your decision. One warning applies to every hydraulic lift whoever built it: if something fails, do not open the power unit, a cylinder or a lock mechanism before a claim is raised. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified one, and that is the quickest way to lose cover that would otherwise have been paid. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call us first.
