AMGO SPL-6: a 6,000 lb parking lift rated for a 110″ ceiling and no shop air

Two things make the SPL-6 a realistic proposition for an ordinary garage rather than a workshop. AMGO specifies it for ceilings as low as 110″, and its safety release needs no air source — the dual safety devices and single-point release work without a compressor. Most four-post lifts assume you have a shop air line at the lift. A residential garage usually does not, and that is where lift projects quietly stall.

Add a single column instead of four, and the SPL-6 becomes the storage lift for the building you already have: 6,000 lbs of capacity, a lifting height of 74″, and no second bank of posts stealing width from the space you are trying to create.

Why a 110″ ceiling changes the shopping list

A standard residential garage ceiling is a hard constraint that no amount of lift specification will move. Once the lift is in, the ceiling has to clear the raised platform, the vehicle stored on it, and whatever the roof of that vehicle carries. A lift designed for a commercial bay simply will not go in, and finding that out after the freight has arrived is an expensive lesson.

AMGO publishes 110″ as the low-ceiling figure for this lift, which is where a great many two-car garages actually measure. Do the arithmetic yourself before you buy: measure to the lowest obstruction over the parking space — the door track, the opener rail, the lighting — not to the highest point of the roof structure. Then compare it against the raised platform and the height of the vehicle going on top. Getting this right is the buyer's responsibility, and it takes five minutes with a tape.

No air source, and why that is the sentence that matters

The SPL-6's locks are held and released by dual safety devices with a single-point release, with no air source required. On a lift with an air-operated release, you also need a compressor, a regulator, a drop to the lift and a line that stays pressurised, and none of that is included with the lift.

Taking the air out means the installation is the lift and the electrical supply, and the release is one lever rather than a valve that depends on the compressor being switched on. In a home garage, in a storage unit, in a barn — anywhere the lift is not surrounded by shop services — this is the difference between a project and a purchase.

One column, an H-shaped platform, and a lift you can set up either way round

The lifting surface is an H-shaped non-slip platform on a reinforced column and base. The H is doing structural work: it puts material where the wheel loads land and ties the two runway sections together in the middle, which is what keeps a single-column lift from feeling like a diving board at the far end. The non-slip surface matters for a lift a vehicle is driven onto rather than jacked onto.

The two platforms can be interchangeably installed, so the lift can be set up to load from whichever side your garage actually opens onto — an ordinary detail that decides whether the lift works in your building or fights it every time. Foldable drive-on ramps come as standard, and a guide ramp is included for parking underneath, so the ramps fold out of the way once the vehicle is up.

Power, and the trade you are making

The SPL-6 runs on either 110V with a 1.0 HP unit or 220V with a 2.0 HP unit, and the power unit is ETL certified. A full cycle takes about 84 seconds on 110V and about 32 seconds on 220V.

For a storage lift, the 110V option is usually the right answer. The lift goes up when you park and down when you want the car back — twice a day at most, and the extra time is irrelevant against not having to run a 220V circuit to a detached garage. If the lift is going into a workshop where it will cycle repeatedly, take the 220V unit and the faster cycle.

Certification, stated precisely

The certification claimed here is narrow and we will describe it narrowly: the power unit is ETL certified. That is a listing on an electrical component, not an independent third-party safety listing of the complete lift, and the two are conflated constantly. Storing your own car in your own garage, this makes no practical difference. For others it decides the purchase — certain commercial insurance policies, fleet and municipal operations and local jurisdictions require a full-lift listing by name. Shipping and delivery

The SPL-6 ships as freight within the lower 48. The rate is fetched live from the carrier for your address at checkout, which is why no shipping figure is printed here — a number baked into copy goes stale and becomes a dispute later.

Plan the unload before the truck is booked. This arrives crated on a standard trailer and getting it onto your floor is the receiver's responsibility, which catches a lot of residential buyers by surprise. A forklift makes it quick; without one, take terminal pickup and let the carrier's own equipment do the work, or collect from one of the AMGO warehouse locations listed further down this page. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, shown at checkout before you pay. Inspect with the driver still there: torn wrap, crushed corners, cut banding, damaged ramps or a load that has clearly shifted goes onto the bill of lading before your signature, and photographs at the tailgate are what settle a freight claim.

Warranty

AMGO issues a written warranty document covering this equipment and we will send you the current version before you buy if the detail matters to your decision. Whatever it says, one habit protects it: do not dismantle a power unit, cylinder, valve, hose or lock assembly before a claim has been opened. A part that has been taken apart is treated as a modified part, and a simple replacement becomes an argument. Photograph the fault, take the serial number from the column, and call us first.
