AMGO PRO-40: 40,000 lbs, on Locks, in a 366″ Bay

Most shops that need a 40,000 lb lift do not need a 40,000 lb building. The PRO-40 is the model that resolves that: the top of AMGO's super-duty four-post range, rated at 40,000 lbs, packed into an envelope 366 1/8″ long with the ramps fitted. It raises to 74 13/16″ and, more to the point on a load this size, holds at 71 11/16″ to the top of the runway on mechanical locks rather than on hydraulic pressure. Nothing about the capacity has been trimmed to get the length down — the columns, the lock stack and the cable drive are the same super-duty hardware carried by the extra-length version.

It is aimed at the vehicles that break ordinary truck lifts: tank trucks, buses, fire apparatus, refuse chassis and oversized fleet equipment. A full cycle takes 183S from a 2.0 HP single-phase unit — sized around the rating rather than around the clock.

Read this before you measure: our fitment numbers are in dispute

The specification AMGO publishes for the PRO-40 today does not match every dimension this page carries, and the disagreement lands squarely on the numbers a buyer measures a building with. Set against the figures below, the manufacturer gives a narrower overall width, a narrower distance between the columns, a narrower drive-through opening, a different range for the runway adjustment and a heavier gross weight. For dimension B it uses another name entirely — the outside edge of the crossbeams rather than an overall length without ramps — with a figure to match that different definition.

Neither side is called correct here. Resellers have copied our figures verbatim for years, which is why this reads as the manufacturer contradicting us rather than as an error we had located.

Ask us to put the bay dimensions in writing — the width across the columns, the gap between them, and the drive-through opening — before you lay the bay out or decide how vehicles will reach it. Everything else on this page can be adjusted after delivery; where the columns land cannot.

Will It Fit?

Tape measure in hand, with the section above beside you.

  • Length. 366 1/8″ with ramps; the structure alone is listed here at 315 1/2″, under the dimension label the maker names differently. Ramps need clear floor in front of them on top of either figure.
  • Width — in dispute. This page lists 161 7/16″ across the outside of the columns, 143 7/8″ clear between them, and runway outside edges from 104 15/16″ to 114 13/16″ — roughly 104″ to 114″ of deck to keep clear of walls and adjacent bays. The manufacturer publishes narrower. Confirm before you mark the floor.
  • Height. The lift stands 91 13/16″. Add the tallest vehicle you plan to raise and the rise you intend to use, up to the lift’s 74 13/16″ maximum. Lights, ducting and door tracks all count against you.
  • Drive-through — in dispute. This page lists 129 7/8″ between the carriages; the manufacturer publishes a narrower opening. On a bus or a wide-body apparatus that is the entry that decides the job.
  • Underneath. Minimum height 10 7/16″ at rest; 65 7/8″ underneath at full rise, the locks holding at 62 3/4″. Plan against the lock figure.
  • Power. A 2.0 HP single-phase power unit. Supply voltage and breaker size are specified in AMGO’s manual, linked further down this page — confirm both with a licensed electrician before delivery.
  • Concrete. The slab depth and strength requirement is in that same manual. Meeting it is the buyer’s responsibility and no formality at this rating. If your floor is unknown, have it cored before you order.

Cable Drive, and the Two Systems That Watch It

The PRO-40 raises on aircraft-standard cable. That specification is about predictability rather than brute strength: aircraft-grade cable is made to published construction and fatigue standards, so its behaviour under repeated cycling is a known quantity instead of a hope.

Around that sit two independent protections. The first is a mechanical self-locking safety device with an air-driven lock release — the lift settles onto steel locks and stays there, so a parked load is not resting on hydraulic pressure, and multiple primary safety locks give the system more than one place to catch. The second is cable-slack protection, which addresses the failure that actually happens on cable-driven four-posts: one corner losing tension while the rest keeps pulling, taking the platform out of level under load.

The Hydraulics Are Sized for the Rating

A single heavy-duty cylinder does the lifting, built with quality oil seals and a compensation valve. The compensation valve keeps the descent controlled and even rather than letting a loaded platform fall at whatever rate the load dictates, and descent is where an undersized hydraulic package announces itself. A properly sealed cylinder is also what keeps a lift out of the service log: seal weep is the commonest reason a heavy four-post is out of action for a week.

Runways That Adjust to the Vehicle

Width between the runways is adjustable; the span this page prints for it, 49 1/16″ to 58 7/8″, is one of the figures the manufacturer disputes, so use it as ours rather than as final. Set them in and a technician can still reach across a narrower underbody; set them out and dual-rear-wheel tyres sit squarely on the deck instead of hanging over an edge. The platforms are non-skid diamond plate — a traction decision for the driver climbing on in wet weather.

Perfect For

  • Municipal fleet garages — refuse trucks, sweepers, transit buses and fire apparatus in one bay.
  • Heavy-duty truck shops that have outgrown a lower-rated four-post but have a fixed bay.
  • Industrial maintenance facilities servicing yard equipment and oversized plant.
  • Bus and coach operators where clearance matters as much as capacity.

If your longest vehicle overhangs a 366 1/8″ platform, look at the extra-length model instead — you cannot add deck later.

Certification, Stated Plainly

The power unit fitted as standard to this lift is ETL certified — a third-party listing of the electrical assembly, covering the motor, pump and control circuit. It is a different document from a North American third-party structural certification of the lift itself, and we will not present one as the other. Fleet operators, insurers and some local jurisdictions do require a lift-specific third-party listing, and no electrical listing satisfies it. Ask whoever imposes the requirement to name the listing they mean, and speak to us before you order.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48. Two points decide whether delivery day goes well.

First, unloading. The gross weight carried on this page is 8,283 lbs and the maker publishes a heavier one, so plan against the larger: this is a forklift-with-real-capacity, telehandler or overhead-crane job. The carrier's driver will not unload it and is not equipped to. If your site cannot do it, choose terminal pickup, or use one of the AMGO warehouse pickup locations listed further down this page. Deciding that before you order is far easier than deciding it with a truck at your gate.

Second, damage. Inspect every crate before you sign anything. Count the pieces against the packing list, photograph any bend, gouge or crush, and write it on the bill of lading in the driver's presence — after a clean signature, a claim is an uphill argument. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, and freight is quoted live at checkout against your ZIP code.

Warranty

Warranty terms and the claim procedure are on our warranty claims page. If a component fails, raise the claim before you take it apart — a stripped cylinder or a dismantled power unit is the commonest reason a valid claim is refused. Photograph it and call us first.
