Description
-AMGO AX-12A: a 12,000 lb Scissor Whose Alignment Range Starts at 81 7/8″
Capacity is the easy half of choosing an alignment scissor. The half that decides whether a job can be taken is the wheelbase window, and the AX-12A opens further at the short end than anything else in AMGO's scissor range: four-wheel alignment from 81 7/8″ out to 167 3/4″, and two-wheel work to 174″. A shop that turns away hatchbacks and small crossovers because the rack starts too long is turning away the easiest jobs of the day.
All of that sits on a 12,000 lbs platform running a 2.0 HP motor, a 75-second cycle, and a scissor structure built from 5 7/8″ x 3″ (150 x 75 mm) tube. Installed weight is 5,803 lbs.
The Short End of the Range Is Where Shops Lose Work
Alignment racks are usually specified against the largest vehicle a shop expects. That is the wrong end to worry about, because the largest vehicle arrives occasionally and the smallest arrives constantly. A minimum four-wheel figure of 81 7/8″ means compact cars, small crossovers and short-wheelbase vans go on the rack properly — wheels centred on the turnplate positions, not perched at the end of a runway.
At the other end, 167 3/4″ four-wheel and 174″ two-wheel covers the mainstream saloon, SUV and light-truck work most independents live on. The point is the spread, not either extreme.
Why the Tube Section Is Published
AMGO states the scissor tube as 5 7/8″ x 3″ (150 x 75 mm), and it is worth understanding why that is on the spec sheet at all. On a scissor lift the arms carry everything: how level the two runways stay relative to each other, how much the deck moves when a technician leans into a wheel, and how the geometry holds after a few thousand cycles. A stated tube section is a number you can compare against another manufacturer's, and one the maker has to stand behind.
Two dual synchronous cylinders drive the platforms. Rather than trusting a mechanical linkage to keep two runways together, the load is balanced across both decks hydraulically and directly. On a lift you take alignment readings from, a deck that is not level is not an untidiness — it is a measurement error with a comeback attached.
Electro-Air Locking
The self-locking safety mechanism is operated by an electro-air control system. The practical shape of that: the lift raises, the locks engage mechanically along the travel, and releasing them takes a deliberate air-actuated command rather than something a stray hand can cause. A vehicle left up while a part is on order is sitting on steel, not on hydraulic pressure holding its position overnight.
The runways are skid-proof diamond platform. That matters on a wet morning, when the first vehicle of the day is driven up the ramps still dripping.
Will It Fit?
- Floor length. 258″ overall with the ramps, on a runway length of 197 1/2″. Approach room in front of the ramps is on top of that.
- Floor width. 90 1/8″ overall, with 41″ between the runways.
- Ceiling. Maximum lifting height 72 13/16″, with a maximum lock height of 71 1/16″. Add your tallest vehicle and measure to the lowest thing hanging from the roof — lights, ducting and door gear all take height off the number you think you have.
- Drive-on height. 12 3/16″ at its lowest, which is the figure to check against a low front lip.
- Power. A 2.0 HP unit. Supply voltage, breaker size and disconnect are specified in the manual that ships with the lift and is linked below; have a licensed electrician confirm all three for your building before delivery rather than after.
- Floor. AMGO gives the required slab depth and strength in that same manual, and meeting it is the buyer's responsibility. A rack used for alignment also wants a floor that is flat, not just strong — the lift can only be as level as the concrete it is standing on.
Perfect For
- Independent shops with one alignment bay that has to cover compacts through to light trucks.
- Tyre and suspension specialists doing volume wheel work where a 75-second cycle repeats all day.
- General service shops that want the open, post-free access of a scissor rather than four columns around the vehicle.
- Fleet workshops running mixed car and small-van fleets in-house.

Certification, Stated Honestly
AMGO's data for the AX-12A does not claim a third-party safety listing for the lift, and we would rather write that sentence than let a badge appear on the page that the product data does not support.
Whether it matters is a question about your situation rather than about the lift. Some shop insurers, some fleet contracts and some local jurisdictions will only cover or sign off a lift that carries a third-party safety listing from a recognised North American body. If that describes you, ask whoever imposes the requirement to name the listing in writing, then talk to us before ordering so we can check the position for this model with AMGO. Settling it now costs a phone call; settling it after the rack is anchored costs considerably more.
Shipping and Delivery
Freight only, to the lower 48 states, and the lift arrives as more than one package — AMGO's packing data lists a long crate for the rack and a separate carton for the control cabinet. Count both against the packing list before the driver leaves.
Arrange the unload in advance. At 5,803 lbs you need a forklift with capacity in reserve, a telehandler or an overhead crane; the delivering driver will not unload it and has no equipment to do so. If your site cannot, terminal pickup lets you collect with your own gear on your own schedule, and warehouse pickup is available where offered.
Then inspect it. Photograph anything crushed, bent or scraped, and write the damage on the bill of lading in the driver's presence. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the freight arrived in good order, and reopening that afterwards is difficult.
Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee. Freight is quoted live at checkout for your ZIP code, so the figure shown is your lane on the day.
Warranty
Warranty terms and the claim process are on our warranty claims page. Whatever the fault, open the claim before you dismantle the component: a stripped cylinder or an opened control cabinet is the most common reason a genuine failure ends up outside cover. Photograph it, describe what it did, and call us first.
