AMGO 407-P: a four-post built to be installed in pairs, on the power you already have

Most four-post lifts are sold as a service lift that happens to store a car. The 407-P is the other way round, and two things in its own feature list say so. It supports back-to-back installation: two of these share a run of floor rather than each needing its own working perimeter, which is the entire economics of turning one bay into two parking spaces. And its power unit is offered as 1.0HP on 110V/60Hz or 2.0HP on 220V/60Hz, so a garage with ordinary household circuits can run one without an electrician's visit first.

Underneath that it is a straightforward 7,000 lbs four-post: enough for family cars, wagons, most crossovers and the heavier classic saloons, for storage, long-term projects and the routine work a drive-on lift does well.

Will It Fit?

Four-post lifts fail on measurement more often than on capacity, and the number that catches people is the height of the structure rather than the height it lifts to. Check all six against your building before you order.

  • Ceiling. Overall height is 82 7/8 inches — the lift with nothing on it. Your roof has to clear that plus, if you are stacking cars, the roof of the vehicle on the raised runways.
  • Floor width. Overall width is 94 7/8 inches, the outside edges of the runways at 74 3/8 inches. Add room to open a door and walk down the side.
  • Floor length. Overall length including ramps is listed at 185 1/2 inches on this page and 185 13/16 inches on the stored factory sheet — see below.
  • Drive-through clearance. 77 inches between the carriages — the hard limit on how wide a vehicle can be driven in, and a commoner cause of a returned lift than capacity.
  • Width between runways. 37 inches, with 85 5/16 inches between the columns.
  • Power. A 1.0HP motor on 110V/60Hz, or a 2.0HP motor on 220V/60Hz. Decide which you are ordering before it ships.

Confirming your ceiling, floor and circuit is the buyer's responsibility. A lift that does not fit the room is not a warranty matter.

Three sources, and no two of them agree

Being straight about this is more useful than tidying it up. Several numbers for the 407-P differ between the description on this page and the stored factory specification, and AMGO's current specification differs from both. We show what we hold rather than pick a winner. Start with the four that sit side by side:

Figure On this page On the stored spec sheet
Gross weight 1,543 lbs 1,431 lbs
Overall length with ramps 185 1/2" 185 13/16"
Max. lifting height 73 3/4" 73 11/16"
Minimum height 5 3/8" 5 5/16"

Those dimensional differences are fractions of an inch and will not change whether the lift fits. The weight difference is worth a phone call: it is the number your rigger, your forklift hire and your freight arrangements are planned around.

Then the lifting time, where our own two sources contradict each other before the manufacturer is consulted: this page has quoted 68 seconds on 110V and 26 seconds on 220V, while the stored factory sheet says 83 seconds and 31 seconds. AMGO's current specification gives a single lifting time rather than a 110V/220V pair at all. Three sets of figures for one measurement, so how quickly this lift raises a car is not offered as a reason to buy it.

AMGO also disagrees with two heights: against ours it publishes a lower minimum height — the drive-on clearance — and a higher maximum locking height, meaning more usable room at the top lock than the table below claims. We assert neither side. Our numbers have been republished digit for digit by other sellers for years, so the honest description is that the manufacturer contradicts us.

Confirm the minimum height, the top locking height and the gross weight with us in writing before you order — the first if a low car is the reason you are buying, the second if you intend to work underneath a raised vehicle, and the third before you book anything to unload the crates with.

Back-to-back installation, and why it is the reason to buy this one

A four-post lift needs a working perimeter — room to walk around it, swing a door, get a ramp down. Install two lifts independently and you buy that perimeter twice. The 407-P is designed to be installed back to back, sharing the space between the units, which is how one deep garage becomes two storage positions. Plan both before the first lift goes down; retro-fitting the second into a layout never measured for it is where this goes wrong.

Locks you release from one place, on columns shaped to carry the load

The 407-P carries multiple safety locks in each column, so a raised vehicle rests on mechanical steel rather than hydraulic pressure — the distinction that matters where a car may sit raised for months rather than minutes. Releasing them is a single-point manual operation through AMGO's concealed lock control device, so one person lowers the lift from one position instead of walking four columns disengaging catches. On a storage lift used alone, that is what makes it usable single-handed.

The columns use a double-S profile rather than a plain box section. Folding steel adds stiffness in the direction the load actually pushes, which is why a shaped column carries what a heavier plain one cannot. The synchronisation cables are aero-standard, and on a four-post cable quality is what keeps the four corners rising together. The platforms are non-slip and the drive-in ramps fold up as standard.

Perfect For

  • The home garage doubling its parking — especially one with 110V only, where the 1.0HP motor option removes the electrical work from the project.
  • Collectors and project owners who need a car off the floor and untouched for long periods.
  • Independent shops wanting overflow storage or a drive-on bay for oil, exhaust and underbody work.
  • Dealerships and detailers stacking inventory in a fixed footprint, where back-to-back installation is the whole point.

What's in the Box

Supplied as standard according to the manufacturer's feature list: the ETL certified power unit, aero standard synchronisation cables, non-slip platforms with foldable drive-in ramps, and the concealed safety lock control device with its single-point manual release. Rolling jacks, drip trays, castor kits and jack trays are separate — if you want wheels-off work as well as storage, budget for a bridge jack too.

Certification, stated plainly

AMGO states that this model comes as standard with an ETL certified power unit. The scope is the useful part: the listing sits on the electrical power unit, and it is not a third-party structural certification of the lift as a whole. In a private garage and most independent shops nothing more is ever asked for; it does come up for some insurance policies, fleet and municipal operations, and jurisdictions whose code names a specific listing. Establish what your insurer or inspector requires before you order.

Shipping and delivery

This ships by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states, with freight quoted live at checkout against your own address rather than as a stale estimate. It arrives crated on a standard trailer and getting it to the ground is the receiver's job — a forklift, or a collection from the carrier's local terminal, which is usually easier because the terminal already has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select it.

Inspect before you sign: crushed corners, bent steel, shifted banding, any trace of oil. Write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there, and photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the load arrived undamaged.

Warranty

AMGO publishes a written warranty covering this product and we hold the document rather than a summary — ask us for the current copy before ordering if the terms matter. One warning applies to every hydraulic lift whoever built it: if something fails, do not open the power unit, a cylinder or a lock mechanism before a claim is raised. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified one, and that is the quickest way to lose cover. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call us first.
