Katool KT-AV9: the camera beam moves by remote, and that is the whole point

Katool builds three lift-mounted 3D aligners, and the honest way to tell them apart is not the software or the camera count. It is how the camera beam gets to the right height. On the KT-AV9, the post moves under remote control. When the lift goes up, you raise the beam to follow it from wherever you are standing, without walking back to a console and without touching the vehicle. That is the feature the model number is really selling, and it is the reason the KT-AV9 sits at the top of the family.

Everything else is a competent modern aligner: a two-camera 3D measurement system, no calibration required at installation, a tablet and a 30 inch display, and a database of American, European and Asian vehicles that updates yearly at no extra charge. It mounts to work with 2-post and scissor lifts, and it rolls, so it is not committed to one bay for life.

Will It Fit?

An aligner asks nothing of your ceiling and nothing of your slab. What it asks for is a lift it can see past, a supply it can run on, and a route into the building. All of it is yours to confirm before ordering.

  • Power. 100-240V at 50/60 Hz, single phase. That is a genuinely wide input window, which means most shops can put this on an ordinary circuit rather than budgeting for an electrician.
  • Getting it in. This arrives in two crates, not one. The machine crate's longest listed dimension is 48.47 inches (1,230 mm). The camera beam travels separately in a long, slim crate whose section is 15.75 inches square (400 mm). Check the long crate against your narrowest corridor and any tight corner between the door and the bay.
  • Weight. Katool lists the machine at 200 kg, shipping at 240 kg. Not a forklift-only item, but not a one-person carry either.
  • The lift itself. This is a lift-mounted system, so the aligner is only half the installation. Turn plates and slip plates go on your lift, positioned to the machine's specification. If your lift is not already cut or equipped for alignment work, factor that in before you buy the aligner.
  • Your responsibility. Floor levelness, the lift, the electrical supply and the unloading are the buyer's to arrange. We cannot inspect your bay from here.

Why a remote-moved beam changes the working day

Alignment is a loop. Measure, adjust, measure again. On a two-post lift, the vehicle also moves through that loop, because the technician raises it to get at a tie rod and lowers it to roll compensation or to check a reading at a different height. Every one of those movements changes the geometry between the camera beam and the targets on the wheels.

On an aligner with a manually positioned post, the technician sets the beam height, works, and then walks back to reset it. On the KT-AV9 the beam moves by remote, so the person doing the adjustment stays where the adjustment is. That is thirty seconds saved per movement rather than five minutes, but it repeats several times per vehicle and dozens of times per day, and it removes the specific temptation that causes bad alignments: leaving the beam slightly wrong because moving it is inconvenient.

Calibration-free installation: what that actually means

Katool ships this system requiring no calibration during installation. It is worth being precise about what that claim is and is not. It means the camera pair arrives with its relationship to itself already established, so a shop is not paying for a specialist visit or losing a bay for a day before the first alignment. It does not mean the targets, the turn plates and the lift look after themselves; those are still installed to specification, and the quick-start sequence on this page walks through it.

The database, and what yearly updates are worth

An aligner is only as good as the specifications it is comparing against. The KT-AV9 carries an extensive database covering American, European and Asian models with unlimited memory for vehicle specifications, and Katool provides the yearly database upgrade at no additional cost. That last part deserves a sentence rather than a bullet: on some alignment equipment the annual data subscription is a recurring line in your budget for the life of the machine. Ask that question about anything you compare this against, because it is a running cost that does not appear on a price tag.

The software runs on Android and iOS rather than a proprietary platform, which is a quieter advantage than it sounds. It means updates arrive the way updates arrive on any tablet, and it means a replacement device is something you can buy locally rather than order and wait for.

Perfect For

  • Busy general repair shops where alignment is one service among many and bay time is the scarce resource.
  • Tire retailers adding alignment to a business that already has the vehicles on the premises.
  • Shops with more than one lift, where a rolling aligner earns its keep by not being tied to a single bay.
  • Fleet maintenance operations running the same vehicles repeatedly, where alignment records over time are worth as much as the alignment.

What is in the Box

Katool describes the KT-AV9 as a complete package, and the feature list names the contents: the mobile 3D aligner with its two-camera measurement system and remote-controlled post, a tablet for control, a 30 inch display screen, a mouse and keypad, a printer for alignment reports, a wifi device and a USB drive. Turn plates, slip plates and any lift modification are not described as included. If you are buying this to go onto a lift that has never done alignment work, ask us what else you need before you order.

Certification, stated plainly

The material we hold on this machine does not claim an independent third-party listing from any recognised testing body, and we are not going to imply one with a badge. For a measurement instrument that sits beside a lift rather than under a vehicle, this comes up less often than it does on lifting equipment, but it does come up: some commercial insurance policies, some fleet and municipal service contracts and some jurisdictions specify equipment approvals by name, and a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity is a different document from an independent listing. If any of that applies to your operation, get the requirement in writing from your insurer or your inspector, then ask us for the documentation that ships with this system.

Shipping and delivery

The KT-AV9 travels by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states, in two crates, and freight is quoted live at checkout against your address so the number you see is a current carrier rate rather than an aged estimate. Unloading is the receiver's responsibility. The long beam crate is the awkward one: it is light enough to handle but too long to swing around a tight corner, so look at the route before delivery day rather than during it. Terminal collection is often the simpler option, and the terminal has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you choose that option.

Inspect both crates before signing. Camera equipment does not advertise impact damage from the outside, so look carefully at corners and banding, note anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is present, and photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived intact.

Warranty

This system carries a one-year limited warranty, and Katool publishes the full warranty document separately. One warning that applies to any optical measurement equipment: if a camera or the beam is damaged or reads inconsistently, do not open a camera housing or attempt to re-seat an optic before a claim is raised. A disassembled instrument is normally treated as a modified one, and it is the fastest way to lose coverage that would otherwise have been honoured. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call first.
