-MAHLE VCX-4 FluidPRO® Four Tube Vacuum Coolant Exchanger
The number in the name is the specification. The VCX-4 carries four transparent cylinders: three for new coolant and one for waste. Three fresh cylinders on one cart is what separates this machine from every two-tube exchanger, and it answers a problem that has been getting worse for a decade — a modern workshop does not stock one coolant, it stocks several, and they are not interchangeable.
Conventional green, extended-life, hybrid organic, and the manufacturer-specific formulations that some marques insist on all live in the same shop and must never meet. On a two-tube machine that means either restricting the service to whatever is loaded, or draining and flushing the cart between jobs, which nobody does at eleven o'clock on a Saturday. Three fresh cylinders means three chemistries are loaded, selected at the panel, and the vehicle in the bay gets the one the manufacturer specifies. The changeover is a valve position rather than a procedure.
The Customer Can See It Working
The cylinders are transparent on purpose. Precipitants, rust and the general state of the old coolant are visible in the waste column as it fills, next to the clean fluid going in. MAHLE frames this as making the service easy to sell, and that is fair, but it is also simply honest: a cooling system service is one of the few jobs where the evidence is normally poured down a drain before the customer arrives. Being able to walk somebody out to the bay and show them what came out of their engine converts a maintenance recommendation into an obvious decision, and it does it without anyone having to be persuasive.
Vacuum, and Why It Beats a Drain and Refill
A Venturi generator turns shop air into vacuum, and the vacuum does the work. Drawing the cooling system down before filling matters because a drained system is full of air, and air that stays trapped in a heater core or at a high point in the block is the reason a car comes back with a heater blowing cold, or a temperature gauge that wanders under load. Pulling a vacuum first means atmospheric pressure pushes the incoming coolant into those voids instead of leaving pockets behind for somebody else to burp out later.
On efficiency, MAHLE states the machine can remove up to 60% of used coolant in a single pass. That figure is worth reading carefully rather than glossing over: it is a single-pass number for a system that still holds fluid in the block and the heater circuit, which is exactly why the machine offers repeat passes. It is also a far better starting point than a radiator drain plug, which reaches only what gravity can find.
No Electricity Required
The VCX-4 is powered by shop air alone, specified at 55 to 110 psi. There is no motor, no cord and no outlet to find, which means the cart can go wherever there is an air drop. The practical caution is that a compressor which cannot hold pressure in that band while other tools are running will make the vacuum stage slow and inconsistent — the machine is only as good as the air behind it.
Built for a Working Bay
The cylinders are high-strength fiberglass composite with machined aluminium no-leak end caps sealed by pressure O-rings, and the waste cylinder carries its own pressure relief valve. The chassis is rugged; the rear wheels are cushioned and non-inflatable with permanently lubricated bearings, and the front wheels are locking casters with a debris shield. None of that is glamorous. All of it is the difference between a machine that is still working in year five and one that is leaking at the caps and sitting on a flat wheel.
The control panel uses a vacuum gauge and colour-coded function valve positioning, so the technician selects a function by moving a valve to a marked place rather than by remembering a sequence — which matters most when more than one person uses the cart.
Connection
The cone adapter simply inserts into the radiator spout or the overflow tank, which is what lets the machine work across most makes and models without a drawer of vehicle-specific fittings. Two cone plugs are supplied along with an 8 in (20 cm) hose adapter, and the service hoses are clear, wire-reinforced and 10 ft long, so the cart works from beside the vehicle rather than pressed against the bumper.
Will It Fit Your Bay?
- Dimensions. 63" H x 28" W x 22.5" D (160 cm x 71 cm x 57 cm) — tall and narrow, so it stands in a corner rather than occupying a footprint.
- Weight. 200 lb. (75 kg) empty. Full cylinders add substantially to that; give it a home on level floor, not on a bay approach ramp.
- Air. Shop air at 55 to 110 psi, and enough compressor capacity to hold it under load.
- Reach. 10 ft hoses.
Confirming the air supply, the drop location and the floor space is the buyer's responsibility — those are measurements that can only be taken in the shop itself. We are glad to talk it through beforehand.
Perfect For
- Multi-marque independent workshops stocking three coolant chemistries and tired of choosing between them.
- Quick-lube and fast-fit operations where the visible-evidence argument sells the service without a hard conversation.
- Dealer service departments that must use a specified coolant and need it available without swapping tanks.
- Shops with air but awkward power — mobile bays, detail bays, outbuildings.

Certification and Approvals
We hold no third-party listing or approval mark for this machine in our data, and we are not going to suggest otherwise. It is worth saying rather than skipping: a specification sheet describes how a machine is built and what it achieves, which is a separate matter from an approval that an insurer, a fleet policy or a local authority may impose on workshop equipment. If a named listing is a condition of your cover or your site rules, send us the wording and we will obtain the manufacturer's documentation for you to check before you order.
Shipping and Delivery
Ships freight within the lower 48 states, free of charge. It arrives on a pallet and it is tall, so think about how it will come off the truck and through your door: a forklift, several people, or a terminal collection arranged with the carrier. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, shown at checkout before you pay.
Inspect the pallet before signing. Photograph any damage — a cracked cylinder or a bent chassis leg can hide behind intact shrink wrap — and note it on the bill of lading in front of the driver. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the machine arrived sound.
Warranty
Ask us to confirm the current warranty terms for this unit before you order. The warranty document attached to this product record in our system belongs to a different manufacturer's product entirely, so we would rather tell you that than quote you a term we cannot stand behind. We will get MAHLE's own statement in writing for you.
Whatever the terms turn out to be, one rule holds for any claim: do not disassemble the machine before it is raised. Stripping a suspect valve, cylinder cap or Venturi assembly ahead of an authorisation will usually end the claim however sound the diagnosis. Call it in, take the instruction, then work to it.
