MAHLE MCX-2HD Multi-Coolant Exchanger with HD Truck Adapter Set

The HD in this model number is not a badge, it is two concrete changes to the machine. First, the fresh-coolant tanks are bigger: the specification sheet records that where the base unit carries a pair of 7.5 gal (28 liter) tanks, the MCX-2HD carries two 15 gal (57 liter) tanks. Second, it ships with the HD Truck Adapter Set — additional step adapters and additional adapter hoses beyond the standard kit.

Both changes exist for the same reason: a truck is not a large car. A heavy-duty cooling system holds a volume that would empty a car-sized machine partway through a job, and a truck's radiator neck is frequently outside the range a standard step adapter covers. Either shortfall stops the service dead, and neither is discoverable until the vehicle is already in the bay.

Capacity Is the Whole Argument

Running out of fresh coolant mid-exchange is not a delay, it is a partial service. You cannot pause an exchange on a hot cooling system and go and fetch more fluid without compromising what you have already done. Doubling the fresh capacity means a heavy-duty system is a single, uninterrupted job — and because there are still two fresh tanks rather than one large one, you keep the ability to hold two different coolant chemistries on the cart and select between them. Conventional and extended-life formulations must not be mixed, and a machine that forces a choice between capacity and separation is not much use in a mixed fleet shop.

The waste tank is 15 gal (57 liter), with an integrated input/output tube and an automatic empty-fluid-level sensor.

Adapters, Which Is Where Truck Jobs Actually Fail

The base accessory kit covers universal adapter hoses, universal step adapters with shut-off valves, an overflow tank wand with its own shut-off valve, and miscellaneous fittings and clamps. The step adapters are supplied in two sets covering a 1-1/4 in to 1-3/4 in range (3.2 cm to 4.4 cm) diameter, and the universal adapter hoses cover 1-1/4 in to 1-3/8 in (3.2 cm to 3.5 cm) and 1-1/2 in to 1-3/4 in (3.8 cm to 4.4 cm). The MCX-2HD's specification sheet records that it contains additional step adapters and additional adapter hoses beyond that base set — that is the HD Truck Adapter Set, and it is what gets the machine onto radiator necks the standard kit does not reach.

Service hoses are 3/8 in (9.5 mm) with brass quick connect and disconnect couplers, chrome sleeved and silicone sealed.

Speed, and the Efficiency Behind It

A diaphragm fill pump and an impeller drain pump each move 2 gal (7.9 liter) per minute. The specification sheet states a process time of less than 3 minutes average for a full exchange, with a coolant exchange result of 92 to 98% in a single pass for most vehicles. The number that ought to interest a fleet operator is the second one. A drain and refill on a truck reaches what gravity can find and leaves the block and the heater circuit largely as they were; the point of a vacuum-assisted exchange is that it gets at the fluid a drain plug cannot.

An automatic pump shut-off means the machine stops itself rather than relying on somebody watching a level, which is what makes it reasonable to walk away and do something else while it runs. Fluid levels in both the new and waste tanks are visible from the front, and the tank connectors are drip-proof quick-disconnect.

Protecting the Vehicle

A pressure switch set at 6 to 12 psi (0.4 to 0.8 bar) sits between the machine and the cooling system. Its only job is to prevent the machine putting more pressure into a system than that system was designed to take. On heavy-duty vehicles with large plastic-tanked radiators and long hose runs, damaging a cooling system with a service tool is a genuinely expensive way to finish a routine job, and this switch is the reason it does not happen.

Will It Fit Your Shop?

  • Power. Check this one first. The unit runs from a 12V DC supply at 15 Amp — it is not a machine you plug into a wall socket. Work out where that comes from before it arrives.
  • Size and weight. The specification sheet gives 45 in x 38 in x 22.5 in (114 cm x 97 cm x 57 cm) and 121 lb (55 kg). Treat the weight as the empty figure — full tanks add a great deal, so give the cart a level parking spot rather than a sloped bay approach.
  • Temperature. Rated for 32° to 122°F (0° to 50°C). An unheated truck bay in a northern winter can sit below that.

Confirming the 12V supply, the floor space and the working temperature of the building is the buyer's responsibility. Ask us beforehand if the power arrangement is not clear — it is the thing most likely to surprise a first-time buyer of this machine.

Perfect For

  • Truck and trailer workshops where cooling-system volumes defeat car-sized equipment.
  • Fleet operations — refuse, distribution, transit, municipal — servicing on a schedule.
  • Agricultural and plant dealers dealing with large-bore radiator necks and mixed coolant specifications.
  • Mixed shops that take both cars and commercial vehicles and need one cart that covers both.

One Figure to Confirm With Us

The dimensions and weight above come from a specification table that this product shares with the standard-capacity model in the same family, and the HD carries larger tanks. If the exact shipping weight or footprint is load-bearing for how you will unload, mount or store the machine, ask us and we will confirm it against MAHLE's current sheet rather than let you plan around a figure we cannot fully vouch for.

Certification and Approvals

Our data records no third-party listing or approval mark for this machine, and we are not going to imply one exists. Worth saying explicitly: a specification sheet describes construction and measured performance, which is not the same as an approval that an insurer, a fleet policy or a local jurisdiction may require of workshop equipment. If a named listing is a condition of your cover or your site rules, send us the requirement and we will obtain the manufacturer's documentation for you to check before you order.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight to the lower 48 states. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout. It arrives palletised, so arrange how it comes off the truck before the day: a forklift, enough hands, or a terminal collection you set up with the carrier directly. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, which the checkout will show you.

Look the pallet over before signing. Photograph anything crushed, split or leaking, and note the damage on the bill of lading with the driver still present. An unqualified signature is the carrier's evidence that the machine arrived intact, and it makes a later claim very difficult to win.

Warranty

The warranty listed for this machine is 1 year on parts and labor.

If you need to use it, raise the claim before anything comes apart. Opening a pump, a tank fitting or the control panel ahead of an authorisation will usually end the claim however good the diagnosis. Phone it in, get the instruction, then act on it.
