MAHLE ATX-3+Boost FluidPRO™ Automatic Transmission Fluid Exchanger

The ATX-3+Boost is MAHLE's automatic transmission fluid exchanger, and the feature that gives it its model number is the one printed on its own specification sheet: the 'Dipstick' or 'Cooler' mode selector is on the ATX-3 only. Every other machine in the family exchanges through the cooler lines. This one can also work through the dipstick tube.

That is not a convenience option, it is a coverage option. A growing share of vehicles arrive with no accessible cooler-line connection worth breaking into — sealed units, awkward routing, lines that are a corrosion risk to disturb, or a transmission where the manufacturer's procedure simply does not want you in there. On those vehicles a cooler-line-only machine leaves you with a drain-and-fill, which changes a fraction of the fluid and leaves the torque converter full of the old. Dipstick mode means the same complete exchange is available on vehicles the rest of the line cannot service. If you are choosing between ATX models, that is the decision, and it is worth checking against the vehicles actually in your bays rather than against a price.

The Boost Pump

The +Boost designation refers to a high-output pump. The specification sheet lists a positive displacement gear pump for the exchange, with a diaphragm pump included that raises the fluid suction rate in low-flow and temperature-controlled transmissions. That last phrase is the important one: some modern transmissions deliberately restrict flow when the fluid is cold, and a machine that can only draw at the transmission's own pace is slow on exactly those vehicles. The additional pump is there to keep the exchange moving where a basic unit would crawl.

Protecting the Transmission While You Work

Two design details on this machine exist purely to stop a service damaging the unit being serviced.

The first is a patented bypass circuit that protects the vehicle if power to the machine is interrupted mid-exchange. Consider what that prevents. The transmission is pumping fluid through the machine while the engine runs; if the machine dies electrically at that moment and the circuit closes, the transmission is pumping into a dead end. A bypass circuit that fails safe keeps fluid circulating through the machine as though it were a length of hose. It is the kind of feature you never notice until the one time a breaker trips.

The second is the fluid flow direction indicator built into the electronic illuminated keypad, which verifies that the hook-up is correct before the exchange begins. Connecting a transmission cooler line backwards is a genuinely easy mistake under a vehicle, and it is an expensive one. A diode that lights the wrong way is a two-second check that replaces a guess.

Measured, Not Estimated

The machine works on digital weight scale technology, with a scale accuracy of ±0.03% over the usable range. Weighing rather than metering by volume is what makes the exchange genuinely fluid-for-fluid: automatic level adjustment is quoted to within half a quart, so the transmission finishes at the level it should be at rather than at the level the technician judged. Transmission fluid level is not a forgiving specification — over- and underfilling both produce driveability complaints that are hard to attribute afterwards.

A transmission diagnostic pressure gauge is built in, so line pressure can be read as part of the same job, and new and used fluid sight glasses let the technician see the colour and condition of both sides. Colour-coded adapters cover Ford, GM, Chrysler and universal fitments including most Asian imports, with valved couplers designed for minimum spill on connection. A push-button drain function empties the used side without improvisation.

Will It Fit Your Bay?

  • Footprint. 45" H x 28" W x 26.5" D (112 cm x 70 cm x 67 cm) — a cart that parks against a wall between jobs.
  • Weight. 244 lb. (111 kg), on caster front wheels and cushioned, non-inflatable rear wheels that need no maintenance. It moves under one person on flat concrete; it is not something to wheel up a ramp.
  • Power. This is the specification most often overlooked: the machine runs on a 12V DC supply at 10 Amp, not a wall outlet. Establish where that comes from before the machine arrives.
  • Hose reach. 10 ft. black and red exchange hoses, an 8 ft. black hose for emptying the used tank, and on the ATX-3+Boost an additional 5 ft. clear hose attached to the 8 ft. black hose for dipstick mode.
  • Working temperature. Cooler mode is rated 32° to 122°F (0° to 50°C); dipstick mode 42° to 122°F (5.5° to 50°C). Note that the two modes have different minimums — a cold bay can put dipstick mode out of range while cooler mode is still fine.

Confirming the 12V supply, the floor space and the working temperature of the bay is the buyer's responsibility. Ask us before ordering if the power arrangement is not obvious — it is the single thing most likely to catch a first-time buyer out.

Perfect For

  • General repair shops that want transmission service coverage across vehicles with and without accessible cooler lines.
  • Quick-lube and service centres selling scheduled fluid exchanges where speed and a repeatable result matter.
  • Transmission specialists who need line-pressure diagnostics and a weighed exchange on the same cart.
  • Fleet workshops running scheduled transmission service intervals across mixed makes.

Certification and Approvals

Our data for this machine does not record any third-party listing or approval mark, and we are not going to imply one. Say that plainly rather than leave a gap: what the specification sheet describes is the machine's construction and its measured accuracy, which is a different thing from an approval an insurer, a fleet policy or a local jurisdiction might require of workshop equipment. If a named listing is a condition of your cover or your site rules, tell us what is being asked for and we will get you the manufacturer's documentation to check it against before you commit.

Shipping and Delivery

This item ships free within the lower 48 states, so there is nothing to add at checkout. The unit ships palletised, so plan how it comes off the truck: a forklift, enough hands, or a terminal collection you arrange with the carrier yourself. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, which the checkout shows before you commit.

Check the pallet before you sign for it. Photograph anything crushed, torn or scraped and write the damage on the bill of lading with the driver present. Signing clean is the carrier's evidence that the machine arrived undamaged, and it makes a claim raised later very hard to run.

Warranty

The warranty listed for this machine is 1 year on parts and labor.

Before making a claim, do not take the unit apart. Opening a pump, a valve block or the scale assembly ahead of an authorisation will normally end the claim regardless of how right the diagnosis was. Phone the claim in first, take the instruction you are given, then work to it.
