Katool KT-B760: the machine takes its own measurements

Wheel balancers do not usually fail by being inaccurate. They fail by being fed the wrong numbers. Before a balancer can calculate anything it needs three geometric inputs - the distance from the machine to the rim, the rim diameter and the rim width - and on a basic machine a technician reads those off the wheel and types them in.

The KT-B760 carries an automatic measurement ruler that reads distance and diameter itself. Nothing to key in means nothing to key in wrong, and a mistyped distance is the classic cause of the wheel that leaves the shop reading a perfect zero and still shakes at highway speed. That single feature, on a machine that is otherwise unremarkable, in the way good equipment usually is, is what this page is built around.

Why a mistyped number is worse than an inaccurate machine

An inaccurate balancer is at least consistently wrong, and a technician who knows it will second-guess a suspicious reading. A wrong input is different: the machine performs a flawless calculation on a false premise and reports it with total confidence. The weight goes on in the wrong plane or the wrong position, the wheel measures zero on the retest because the same false premise is used again, and the fault only surfaces on the road.

An automatic arm removes that failure entirely for two of the three inputs, and it does it identically whether the technician has ten years in the trade or ten days. In a shop where tire work is spread across several people, that consistency is worth more than a decimal place of claimed accuracy.

The steel that the sensors are bolted to

A balancer measures force. It can only be as good as the structure the sensor is mounted on, because if the cabinet flexes while the wheel spins, that flex is measured along with the imbalance. Katool publishes the numbers rather than asserting sturdiness:

  • 3 mm high-strength steel body, solidly welded, chosen for low vibration.
  • 8 mm boards, bottom and side, in an all-in-one pressure sensor support, so the sensor sits on something that does not move under load.
  • 36 mm shaft thread, quenched, because a thread that stretches under a heavy wheel produces scatter between two spins of the same assembly.

The computer board is built with moisture-proof, dustproof and antistatic construction, which is a shop-floor consideration rather than a laboratory one: a balancer usually shares a bay with a bead blaster and a pressure washer. Self-calibration runs on both sides with built-in fault diagnosis, so the machine can be verified in place, and there are no preset parameters to unlearn.

The wheel envelope, and the two numbers people forget to check

Rim diameter and wheel width are the specs everyone reads. The two that catch buyers out are the centre bore and the wheel weight, because they are what stop a modern truck or heavy alloy assembly from going on the machine at all.

Rim diameter under 30"
Wheel width 3" to 12"
Wheel diameter under 880 mm (34.64")
Rim centre hole under 135 mm (5.31")
Wheel weight under 65 kg (143 lbs)

Take the heaviest and widest wheel you genuinely service, not the average one, and check it against that table before ordering. If wide rear fitments are routine for you, a balancer with a larger width capacity is the better buy and we will say so.

Operation and output

The spin runs at 180 rpm on a copper-wound motor selected for heat dissipation and long service under repeated cycles, with a measurement taking around seven seconds. Several balance modes cover different rim types so weights can be placed where the wheel design allows, whether that is a clip on a steel rim or a hidden adhesive weight behind an alloy spoke. Units switch between ounces and grams and between millimetres and inches, which matters more than it should in a shop working on both domestic and imported vehicles. A wheel guard is available as an option, and the shaft is long enough to accept wider assemblies within the width limit above.

Will it fit your shop?

  • Power. 110V single phase (1PH). No three-phase supply is needed, which puts this machine within reach of a small building.
  • Floor. Flat and solid. Everything in the structural section above is undone by a springy or uneven floor under the machine.
  • Space. Enough clearance to lift a wheel onto the shaft and to stand square to the display, plus room to swing the measuring arm without fouling a bench.
  • Your responsibility. Verifying the electrical supply and the floor before delivery is the buyer's job. We can state what the machine needs; we cannot inspect your premises.

Perfect For

  • General repair shops where several different technicians will use the same balancer.
  • Tire bays handling mainstream passenger and light-truck fitments within the envelope above.
  • Fleet and municipal workshops with a predictable wheel range and a need for repeatable results.
  • Well-equipped private workshops with single-phase power and a solid concrete floor.

What is in the box

  • KT-B760 wheel balancer with a 3 mm steel body and welded frame
  • Automatic measurement ruler for automatic entry of distance and diameter
  • Extended shaft with a 36 mm quenched thread
  • All-in-one pressure sensor support with 8 mm boards
  • Integrated power board with self-calibration and fault diagnosis

The wheel guard is listed as optional, so specify it at the time of order if you want one. Wheel weights, cones for unusual centre bores and electrical work are not included.

Certification, stated plainly

This product's data claims no third-party North American safety listing, and nothing on this page should be read as implying one. Balancers do not fall under the listing regime that governs vehicle lifts, so for nearly all buyers this is not a live question. It becomes one where an insurance schedule, a fleet purchasing standard or a local authority names a specific listing as a condition. If that is your position, confirm the requirement with whoever imposes it before you order, and ask us for the documentation the manufacturer does supply.

Warranty

Coverage runs under Katool's own warranty document rather than under anything summarised here, so ask us for the current version if the terms will influence your decision. One rule applies whatever those terms are: do not strip a faulty machine before the claim has been opened. A unit that has already been taken apart is extremely hard to claim on, no matter how clear the original defect was.

Shipping and delivery

The KT-B760 ships by freight truck within the lower 48 states, with the freight figure generated live at checkout from your own address so it reflects the carrier's current rate rather than an estimate baked into a page. Unloading is the receiver's responsibility, so arrange a forklift or a suitable machine, or select a terminal pickup - often the simpler choice, since the terminal is already equipped for it. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you choose it.

Check the crate before you sign for it. Write any crushed corners, torn wrap, broken banding or evidence of a drop onto the bill of lading while the driver is present, and photograph them. Once you sign clean, the carrier's record says the machine arrived in good order.
