This is the wide one. At 17'-8" across the outside, the PSB-SDD26B-AK gives up roughly three and a half feet more building width than the semi down draft booth in the same family, and it spends that width on working room down both sides of the vehicle. If your painters are stepping around door mirrors, or you have ever had to move a car mid-job to reach the far rocker panel, that is the specification you came here for.

It also runs two exhaust fans rather than one. Both are UL Listed Dayton 24" tube axial units with spark resistant blades, on NEMA rated non-spark motors at 230/460VAC-60HZ, three phase.

Why two fans and a side draft

In a side down draft booth the air comes in high and is drawn downward and outward to extraction points low along both sides. Two things follow. The extraction is symmetrical, so overspray is pulled away from both flanks of the vehicle instead of being dragged the length of the booth past work that is already coated. And the whole exhaust path stays above the slab — no pit, no sub-floor plenum, no excavation, which is the cost that most often kills a downdraft project outright.

Splitting the extraction across two fans is what makes that symmetry possible. It also means the failure of one fan is a booth running at reduced capacity that you can see and act on, rather than a booth with no extraction at all.

Bolt-together 18 gauge construction

Panels are heavy duty precision punched 18 gauge steel, assembled with 5/16" bolt and nut hardware, powder coated bright white on both faces. Precision punching is what makes a bolt-together booth go up straight — the holes are located by the press, not by whoever is holding the drill on the day. The white interior is doing real work too: it is reflectance for the lighting and it is a surface that wipes down rather than holding overspray.

Ten T-8 four-bulb light fixtures light the enclosure, arranged in the commercial grade hip panel design so that illumination reaches the sides of the vehicle rather than pooling on the horizontal surfaces. In a booth this wide, side lighting is the point — the extra width is only useful if you can see what you are doing when you are standing in it.

Will It Fit?

• Outside footprint: 26'-4" long by 17'-8" wide. That width is the number to check against your building first, because it is where this model differs most from a narrower booth.
• Inside working space: 14' wide, 9'-3" high.
• Inside length: published figures differ - see "Before you plan the bay" below and confirm it with us first.
• Power: 230/460VAC-60HZ, three phase as standard, with a single phase electrical configuration available as an option. Decide this before ordering; it is not a change you make later without cost.
• Exhaust routing: an 8' exhaust extension kit with a 13" diameter is offered for reaching a roof or wall penetration.
• Traffic flow: a drive thru door kit is available if you want the booth to be a pass-through rather than a dead end.
• Approvals: your local fire official, building department and insurer all have a say in a spray booth installation, and getting their requirements before you order is the buyer's responsibility.

Before you plan the bay: two things to confirm

The inside length. Published figures differ — the manufacturer's feature list gives it in inches, the specification table gives it in feet, and the two do not agree. Rather than choose between them, this page states neither. Confirm the inside length with us in writing before you commit floor space to this booth and we will get it straight from iDEAL.

The motor horsepower and the airflow rating. The feature list and the specification table publish different horsepower figures for the exhaust motors, and two different CFM ratings appear in the published data for this booth. Neither difference is trivial: motor horsepower drives your electrical service sizing, and the airflow rating is what a fire official or an insurer may want to see. Confirm both with us in writing before you order, and before an electrician quotes the installation. Everything else on this page is stated exactly as the manufacturer's data gives it.

Fitted out to spray, not just enclosed

A deluxe control panel is included, along with a manometer, solenoid valve, hardware and sealant, and premium AFC intake and exhaust filters. The manometer is easy to overlook and is the instrument that earns its place fastest — it reads the pressure drop across the filters, which is the only reliable early warning that airflow is falling. Without one, loaded filters announce themselves through a finish defect on a customer's vehicle.

Tri-fold entry doors and a personnel door each carry viewing windows and shutoff switches, so the booth can be observed without being opened and cannot be left running in an open state.

If a heater is anywhere in your plans, note that the plenum is a prerequisite and is far easier to buy now than to add later.

Specifications

Approvals, and where they stop

This booth's data makes two distinct claims. The exhaust fans are UL Listed, which is a third-party listing covering those components. The booth is stated to meet NFPA 33, the standard governing spray application of flammable materials, and its motors are NEMA rated and non-sparking.

Neither claim approves your installation, and it is more useful to say so than to leave the impression otherwise. Ducting, make-up air, electrical work, fire suppression and clearances are all decided locally, by your fire official, your building department and your insurer, and their requirements should be in hand before you place an order. Ask us in writing for the compliance documentation available on this exact model, and take it to them.

A booth arrives on multiple pallets of panels and you will need a forklift and hands to receive it, or a freight terminal pickup arranged instead. Count the pallets against the paperwork and inspect the stacks before signing — on bolt-together construction, a crushed panel edge becomes an alignment problem during assembly, so note anything you find on the delivery receipt while the driver is present.

Warranty

This listing publishes no warranty period, so none is quoted. Request the current written terms before you order, and ask specifically what applies to the structure against what applies to the fans, motors and controls, because those are commonly covered differently.
