Schulz 580HV20X-3: the three-phase 80-gallon, with the starter already wired

This is the V-Series built for a building that already has three-phase service. A 5 HP WEG motor on a 3-phase supply drives a solid cast iron two-stage pump rated to 175 PSI, feeding an 80-gallon ASME receiver, and the magnetic starter arrives mounted and prewired rather than as a box you buy separately and pay someone to fit.

Before any of that matters, though, there is one thing on this listing you need to settle, and it is electrical.

Settle the supply voltage before anyone quotes you

Our two sources for this model's voltage do not say the same thing, and rather than pick one, we are showing you both.

The difference is not cosmetic. If the machine is genuinely multi-tap it can be configured for the lower supply most commercial buildings carry; if it is a single-voltage 460V motor, a building without 460V needs a transformer, and that is a real line on the installation quote rather than a detail. Both sources agree on 460V and on three-phase; they disagree about whether anything below that is available.

We will not average them, convert one into the other, or quietly correct the field that looks wrong. Ask us before you order and we will confirm the motor's actual nameplate voltage with Schulz in writing. If you are having an electrician quote the install, get that confirmation first — it changes the quote.

What three-phase actually buys you

Three-phase is not simply a bigger version of single-phase, and the practical differences show up in a compressor more than in most machines.

A three-phase motor produces smooth, continuous torque because the three windings hand off to one another in sequence, where a single-phase motor delivers torque in pulses and needs help getting started at all. That means no start capacitor and no centrifugal start switch — two of the components that most often fail on a single-phase compressor motor, usually on the coldest morning of the year, when the pump is stiff with cold oil and the motor is asked to break it away against tank pressure.

It also means the current is spread across three conductors rather than pushed down two, so the same work is done at a lower current per leg. Lighter conductors, a smaller breaker, less voltage drop over a long run, and a motor that runs cooler under a heavy duty cycle. If your shop has three-phase available, using it for the compressor is close to free performance.

Will It Fit?

• Floor: 56 inches by 23 inches — a long, narrow plan that suits a wall run rather than a corner. Keep the belt-guard side and the tank drain reachable.
• Height: 42 inches. Low enough to sit under a mezzanine, a rack or a door track that would rule out an upright machine.
• Weight: 479 lbs. No minimum slab thickness or concrete rating is published by Schulz for this model, so none is stated here. A normal shop floor takes it without comment.
• Power: three-phase — see the voltage note above before anything is ordered or wired. The amp draw and breaker fields on the Schulz sheet both say consult a certified electrician, which is correct: those depend on the confirmed voltage, your conductor and your local code.
• Plumbing: a 1/2-inch tank outlet. Match the downstream pipe to the flow you plan to draw.

Verifying the space, the floor and the available supply is the buyer's responsibility before ordering.

The pump, and the parts of it you never see

The V-Series pump is a solid cast iron, belt-driven, two-stage design with its cylinders splayed apart. The splay is functional: it opens a path for air between the barrels and leaves room for deeper cooling fins, and a pump that stays cool is a pump whose oil stays thin, whose valves stay flat and whose rings do not glaze.

Inside are oversized main bearings, Swedish steel valves and CNC-machined components; lubrication is a splash system with a sight glass, and there is no low-oil shut-off, so checking the level is a habit you need rather than one the machine enforces. An intake air filter is fitted, which is inexpensive insurance — every particle the filter stops is one that does not lap the bore. Note that this model's sheet lists no after-cooler and no air dryer; downstream moisture treatment is a separate purchase if the work demands it.

Certification, stated plainly

One certification is recorded against this compressor: ASME, on the air receiver and its safety valve. That is a pressure-vessel standard, and it is the appropriate one to insist on for the component that stores the energy.

Being straight about the boundary: it is not an electrical safety listing, and it does not certify the assembled machine or its control gear. On a three-phase installation that distinction is more likely than usual to matter, because plant insurers and facility standards often ask specifically about fixed electrical equipment. Ask us before you order and we will confirm in writing what this unit carries.

Freight only, to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout against your delivery address.

Sort the unload in advance. At 479 lbs crated, this needs a forklift, a pallet jack and a dock, or a trailer and a trip to the freight terminal; drivers do not take equipment inside. Residential delivery is available and carries a fee, shown at checkout before you pay. Check the crate with the driver and note any damage on the bill of lading before signing, because a clean signed receipt is very hard to argue with later.
