Quincy 4103DS12VCB46 QT Pro 10 HP 120-Gallon Two-Stage Air Compressor, 460V 3-Phase

If you are the person who has to commission this machine rather than the person who has to use it, the two facts that matter are on the tank and on the nameplate: the receiver is an ASME certified tank, supplied with the pressure relief valve, discharge and receiver arrangement that certification requires, and the motor is wound for 460V, 3-phase plant service. This page is written around those two, because they are what an inspector, an insurer and an electrician will each want to see.

The machine itself is Quincy’s QT Pro package: a two-stage cast-iron pump with aluminium heads and two-piece connecting rods, splash lubricated, belt driven from a 1,750 RPM industrial motor, on a 120-gallon vertical receiver, with a high-efficiency finned intercooler between the stages. Rated pump life is beyond 50,000 hours and rated maximum pressure is 175 PSI.

The receiver, and the paperwork that comes with it

A compressed air receiver is a pressure vessel, and in most jurisdictions that puts it in a different regulatory category from the rest of the machine. Certification means the vessel was designed, built and inspected to a recognised code, and that the safety fittings around it are part of the design rather than an accessory somebody added. The relief valve is sized for the vessel, not chosen from a shelf.

What that means practically: when a plant safety audit, an insurance survey or a municipal inspection asks about the air receiver, there is a documented answer. If your site keeps a pressure vessel register, this tank belongs in it, and the periodic inspection interval is set by your jurisdiction rather than by us — check it before commissioning rather than after.

Commissioning a 460V machine

Higher supply voltage means lower current for the same horsepower. That is basic electrical behaviour, and it is why larger industrial buildings distribute at 460V: smaller conductors carry the same power over a long run without excessive voltage drop, and the starter and overload devices see a gentler load.

The consequence for ordering is blunt. This build cannot be converted to another service voltage — the motor winding and the magnetic starter are fixed at the factory. Put a meter on the panel, or have your electrician do it, before the order goes in. Buying on the assumption that a large building must be 460V is the most expensive mistake available on this page.

Breaker and conductor sizing is deliberately not published here. The correct answer depends on the length of the run and on the code in force where you are, so Quincy’s guidance for this model, which we are passing on unchanged, is to have a certified electrician size the circuit.

Installing a tall vertical package

The unit is 40" by 30" in plan and 75" tall, and it weighs 1,000 lbs dry with the pump, motor and starter mounted near the top. That mass distribution is the reason anchoring matters more here than on a horizontal machine. Requirements worth confirming before delivery day:

  • A flat, sound slab that will accept anchors and carry the load.
  • Headroom above 75" — not just to clear the machine, but to lift the pump when it is eventually serviced.
  • A delivery route that a rigid crate can physically turn through, doorway heights included.
  • Ventilation. A 10 HP pump rejects real heat into the room it stands in.
  • A 1" connection into a header that slopes away from the machine, with drops taken off the top.

All of that is the buyer’s responsibility, along with permitting and inspection of the electrical work. We will talk any of it through before you order; we cannot survey your site for you.

Where the QT Pro sits in the range

Our specification data records this model with no aftercooler, no electronic drain valve and no low oil shut-off. That is the deliberate difference between the QT Pro and the horizontal QT MAX machines we also sell: the QT Pro is the plainer package, with the finned intercooler doing the interstage cooling and nothing downstream of the pump. Draining the receiver is a manual, scheduled job, and the oil level is checked at the sight glass rather than policed by a switch. For tool air that is a fair trade; for finishing work, budget for downstream cooling and drying.

Perfect For

  • Manufacturing plants on 460V distribution, where the compressor is one more three-phase load on an existing system.
  • Sites with a pressure vessel register that need a documented, code-certified receiver.
  • Long electrical runs between switchgear and a remote compressor room.
  • Floor-constrained plant rooms that can give up a 40" by 30" rectangle but not much more.

Delivered air volume and full-load current are not listed above. Our catalogue records both without the unit they belong to, and we would rather give you the manufacturer’s published figures on request than publish a number we cannot stand behind.

Certification, stated plainly

The pressure vessel is ASME certified, which is a third-party standard and the certification that most commonly matters at inspection. The machine also carries a CSA mark. Our supplier record additionally mentions a North American third-party electrical listing; we are not printing that mark, because the entry is not clean enough to stand behind and an unverified certification claim on a web page helps nobody. If your insurer or your electrical inspector requires a named listing, contact us first and we will confirm exactly what is on the data plate.

Shipping and delivery

Freight carrier, lower 48 states, crated on a skid. Have a forklift or a dock available on the delivery date — the carrier brings it to the truck and no further. Terminal pickup is an option if you would rather handle the last leg yourself.

Deliveries to a residential address carry a residential fee, so tell us at order time if the address is not a commercial receiving point.

Inspect before you sign. Photograph the crate, check for a split skid or shifted load, and write any damage onto the bill of lading in front of the driver. Signing it clean is very hard to walk back.

Warranty

Cover is a 1-year factory warranty from Quincy on consumer and commercial use, extending to the 3-year "No Bull" warranty with on-site service and labour when the EWK-4 Maintenance Kit is bought at the time of purchase and the machine is registered with the manufacturer.

Standing advice on any suspected failure: speak to us before anything is opened. A dismantled pump cannot be diagnosed, and disassembly ahead of a claim is the most common reason a genuine claim is turned down.
