Quincy QGS 7.5 HP 60 Gallon Rotary Screw Air Compressor with Dryer, 230V Single Phase

Almost every rotary screw compressor sold into a workshop needs three-phase power, and that single requirement is what stops most independent shops from owning one. This machine runs on 230V single phase.

If your building has no three-phase service, the usual options are a utility upgrade with a lead time and a bill attached, or a rotary phase converter that adds cost, noise and one more thing to go wrong. Neither is a small decision, and both are the real reason a lot of shops are still running a piston compressor that stops to catch its breath every twenty minutes. This unit removes the question entirely: it is a genuine continuous-duty screw compressor with an integrated dryer that plugs into the supply a small commercial building already has.

What it produces, and two numbers to check with us first

The manufacturer's feature list for this model gives 21.2 CFM at 150 PSI on a 100% duty cycle. That 150 PSI is worth noticing on its own — it is higher than the standard pressure the larger three-phase machines in this family are rated to, and the extra headroom is useful when a long pipe run or a demanding tool leaves you short at the far end of the shop.

Two published figures for this machine differ, and both are given here. The feature list prints an output of 21.2 CFM; the specification table on this page records 21 CFM. They are close enough that no realistic tool selection turns on the difference, but they are not the same number. The same applies to the motor: the feature list and the model designation both say 7.5 HP, while the specification table says 8 HP. If either figure is load bearing for you — a spec-driven install, a sign-off by somebody else — contact us before ordering and we will confirm both from the current Quincy datasheet.

Quiet enough to work beside

The rated sound level is 64 dBA. In a small shop that is the difference between a compressor you site wherever it fits and one you have to build a cupboard for. A reciprocating compressor of comparable output is loud enough to interrupt a phone call from across the building; this is quieter than the extraction on most spray booths.

Quiet is a consequence of the design rather than a bolt-on. A screw element rotates continuously instead of hammering back and forth, so the noise it makes is a steady hum rather than a series of impacts, and the enclosure only has to deal with that. It is also why the machine can be run continuously without shaking itself, or its mountings, apart.

The dryer, the tank and the controls

An integrated refrigerated air dryer is fitted, and it is the component that justifies the package for finishing work. Air leaving a screw element is hot and saturated; without drying, that moisture condenses in your header and arrives inside your tools and your finish. The dryer condenses it out where you can drain it.

Underneath sits a 60 gallon horizontal receiver with a 3/4-inch outlet. On a continuous-duty screw machine the tank is not there to store a day's air the way it is on a piston compressor — it is there to smooth demand and give the dryer somewhere to work. That is why 60 gallons is sufficient here and would be undersized on a reciprocating unit of similar output.

Controls are start/stop with a Wye Delta start, and the motor is a TEFC design. The machine ships factory filled with 8,000 hour lubricant, which puts the first fluid service a long way out.

Will it fit, and can you power it?

The package is 56 inches long. Our data holds a width and a height for this model as well, but both are recorded without any unit attached to them, and we are not going to publish a bare number as a dimension when you may be measuring a doorway against it. Ask us and we will read the full envelope off the current datasheet.

On supply: 230V single phase, with a magnetic starter fitted. Single phase does not mean casual — this still needs a properly sized dedicated circuit installed by a licensed electrician, and Quincy does not publish an amp draw or a recommended breaker size for it. We are not going to guess at either. Have your electrician size the circuit and disconnect against the machine's nameplate before it arrives. Electrical supply, siting and any permits are the customer's responsibility.

Perfect for

Independent workshops and two-bay service shops on single-phase supply. Tyre and mobile fleet operations with a fixed base. Cabinet, sign and finishing shops that need dry air without a three-phase upgrade. Serious home and collector garages with a 230V circuit and the space for a horizontal package. It is the rotary screw for buildings that were never wired for one.

What's included

Taken from the manufacturer's own feature list: the QGS rotary screw compressor, the 230 volt single phase TEFC motor, the integrated dryer, the 60 gallon horizontal tank, start/stop controls, Wye Delta start, a magnetic starter, and a factory fill of 8,000 hour lubricant. An electronic drain valve is not listed, so tank draining is a manual routine unless you fit one.

Shipping and delivery

Quincy's published feature list for this model advertises free standard shipping to the lower 48 states, with a $75 charge where the delivery point needs the machine lowered from the truck deck. That is the manufacturer's own printed term, and it is carried forward here as written.

What governs your order is the freight quoted live at our checkout for your actual delivery address. If the two do not match, ask us before you place the order and we will confirm the shipping cost in writing. Either way, a residential delivery address carries a residential fee, and the practical requirement is unchanged: this crate is beyond hand unloading, so you need a dock, a forklift, or terminal collection. Inspect the shipment and note any damage on the bill of lading before you sign for it — signing clean is treated as confirmation it arrived intact.

Warranty

The standard cover recorded for this machine is 1 Year. A 5 Year extended warranty is available and requires a factory authorized start-up, so it is a decision to make at installation rather than later. The True Blue 5 Year cover applies to the airend, motor, sump and heat exchanger, and it is parts only — labour is not included, which is worth budgeting for on a machine you intend to keep. If a fault appears, shut it down and speak to us before anything is taken apart; a compressor that has already been opened is a much harder claim to make good.
