-Description
-Quincy QGS 40 HP Tankless Rotary Screw Air Compressor with Dryer, 230/460V 3-Phase
Part number 4152028080 is the small-cabinet answer to a large air demand. The enclosure measures 55.1" long, 30.7" wide and 49.2" tall and weighs 1,087 lbs — under four and a half feet high and under five feet long, for a 40 HP gear-driven rotary screw with a refrigerated dryer built into the same box. That height figure is the one worth writing down: it is what lets the machine go under a mezzanine, into a low plant room, or against a wall where a tank-mounted package simply will not stand up.
It is supplied tankless, on a 100% duty cycle rating, and is intended to be plumbed into air storage you already have or are specifying separately.
Will It Fit? Siting and power
The cabinet. 55.1" x 30.7" x 49.2" and 1,087 lbs. Measure your doorway and your headroom against those numbers before ordering; a compressor that fits the room but not the route into it is a genuinely common and expensive mistake. Leave working space at the hinged doors and detachable panels — the machine is designed to be serviced from the outside, but only if you have not built shelving against it.
Electrical. Listed as 230/460 Volt AC, 3-Phase. Quincy publishes neither an amp draw nor a recommended breaker size, stating instead that a certified electrician should be consulted, and we will not put a number in that gap. The nameplate on the delivered machine is what your electrician sizes the feeder and overcurrent protection from. Book that conversation before the delivery, not after it.
Heat. A machine rated for a 100% duty cycle is built to run without stopping, and everything it draws ends up as heat in the room. A small cabinet does not reject less heat than a large one — it simply concentrates it. Ventilation planning matters more here, not less. Verifying that the site suits the machine is the customer's responsibility.
Why a small cabinet is worth paying attention to
Floor area in a working shop is not free, and plant rooms are usually whatever space was left over. A 40 HP package that occupies roughly the footprint of a large workbench and stands 49.2" tall changes what is possible: it can sit beneath an existing mezzanine, tuck under low ductwork, or go against the wall of a bay rather than eating a corner of the shop floor. The tankless configuration is part of the same argument — the receiver, which is the bulkiest part of a conventional package, becomes a separate item you can put wherever it is convenient, including outside the building or overhead.
The trade is straightforward and worth stating plainly: if you do not already own a receiver, you need to buy one. A tankless compressor plumbed straight into the shop main is not a complete air system.
Gear drive, and a dryer inside the same enclosure
The airend is gear driven rather than belt driven. There is no belt to tension, no belt to replace, and no slip between the motor and the airend — on a machine expected to run continuously, the maintenance you never have to do is worth more than maintenance you can do quickly. The motor is a TEFC design with IP 55 wash-down protection and a Wye-Delta reduced voltage start, which softens the inrush at every start rather than slamming the supply.
The refrigerated air dryer is integrated into the enclosure. Compressed air concentrates the moisture that was in the ambient air; removing it at the source is what protects pipework from rust, tools from internal corrosion and finishes from blemishes. Having it inside the cabinet means one enclosure, one connection and one set of service access points instead of a separate machine to find room for — which, on a package chosen for its size, is not a small consideration. An aftercooler, oil sight glass, spin-on fluid filter, constant fluid monitoring and low-oil shutdown on both engine and pump complete the arrangement.
Control is the Infologic2 Basic Controller: programmable, with auto-restart and remote start/stop, and able to network up to six QGS compressors. The display reads pressure, temperature, dewpoint, motor start limits and general status, so the dryer's performance is visible on the panel rather than inferred from what comes out of the line.
Perfect For
- Shops short of floor area. The 49.2" height and 55.1" length are the whole argument for this SKU.
- Plant rooms with low headroom. Under a mezzanine, under ductwork, or under a first floor.
- Facilities that already own a receiver. Tankless means not paying for storage twice.
- Continuous production air. The 100% duty cycle rating is what makes that realistic.
What's in the Box
Quincy lists this package as the gear-driven QGS rotary screw compressor, the Infologic2 Basic Controller with display panel, the 100% duty cycle TEFC motor, and the integrated refrigerant air dryer, with an aftercooler, oil sight glass, pressure gauge, air filter and low-oil shutdown on both engine and pump. No receiver tank is supplied and no electronic drain valve is fitted. Wiring, installation and commissioning are not included.

Certification, stated honestly
An ASME certification is recorded on the specification sheet for this unit. Be precise about what that usually means: ASME coding attaches to a pressure vessel, and this configuration ships without one — tank size is listed as 0 Gallons. If a coded vessel is what your inspector or insurer will want to see, the question really belongs to whichever receiver you connect this to, and we will happily confirm what the certification on this SKU covers before you commit. Separately, our product data records no independent electrical or equipment safety listing for the packaged machine, and we are not going to suggest one. Where a jurisdiction, insurer or corporate standard requires an independent third-party listing on installed plant, establish that before purchase rather than at inspection.
Shipping and Delivery
Ships freight within the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout from the delivery address you enter rather than estimated on this page. At 1,087 lbs it needs a dock or a forklift to come off the truck; if you have neither, collection from the carrier's terminal is the alternative. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, shown at checkout where it applies. Check the crate over before signing and record anything you find on the bill of lading at the point of delivery — once a clean bill is signed, a concealed damage claim becomes very difficult, and photographs taken while the driver is still there are what usually resolve one.
Warranty
The published standard cover is 1 Year consumer and 1 Year commercial. An extended 3 Year factory warranty is available, and the True Blue 5-Year warranty applies when a Quincy authorised start-up commissions the machine. That is a decision to make before the compressor is first energised, because the longest available term is conditional on who performs the start-up. Whatever term applies, do not open the airend, the dryer circuit or the motor before a claim has been raised and assessed — a disassembled component is routinely treated as an unverifiable fault. File the commissioning paperwork with your fluid and filter change records; both get requested.
