Quincy 4152026529 QGS 25 HP 132 Gallon Rotary Screw Air Compressor

This is the biggest motor Quincy puts in this cabinet. The 25 HP QGS occupies exactly the same footprint as the smaller-motor versions of the same package — 74 inches long, 30.7 inches wide, 72.2 inches tall — on the same 132 gallon horizontal receiver. If you have already measured a bay for a QGS and found it fits, stepping up to this motor costs you no extra floor at all.

That is a more useful fact than it first sounds. Compressor sizing goes wrong in one direction far more often than the other: shops buy for today's tool list, then add a second bay, a media blaster or a paint booth, and discover the machine can no longer hold pressure through a busy afternoon. Being able to take the larger airend without redrawing the floor plan is the least painful form of headroom there is.

Gear drive between the motor and the airend

The pump drive on this unit is recorded as a gear drive, and that pairing — the largest motor in the range with a geared transmission — is deliberate. Power has to get from the motor shaft into the screw element somehow, and at 25 HP the amount going through that connection is not trivial. A gear train transmits it through hardened teeth running in the compressor's own lubricant: no tension to set, no matched belt set to source, and no gradual efficiency loss as a belt ages and slips. The transmission is serviced by the fluid change you were already scheduling.

The practical consequence is that this machine's maintenance list is genuinely short. Spin-on fluid filter, air filter, fluid level through the sight glass, and the fluid itself — the premium synthetic lubrication is rated for 8,000 hours, which on a single-shift operation is a long time between changes.

Confirm the air dryer before you order

Published information for this compressor differs on one item. The manufacturer's feature list includes an "Integrated Refrigerant Air Dryer", and the marketing description that has been on this page describes one; the product's own specification table has an Air Dryer field and it reads "No".

If air drying is part of why you are looking at this unit, contact us before you order and we will confirm the configuration against the current factory order sheet. If you already run a dryer on your header, the question may not matter to you at all — but it should be your decision, made with both sources in front of you.

Note that the specification table does record an aftercooler as fitted, which is a different thing from a dryer. An aftercooler drops the air temperature straight out of the airend and knocks out the easy moisture; a refrigerated dryer takes it further, down to a dewpoint low enough to protect tools and finishes. One does not substitute for the other.

Running it, and running it alongside others

Duty cycle is 100%, which is the whole argument for a screw machine over a reciprocating one: it is designed to be loaded and running rather than cycling and cooling. The motor is TEFC with IP 55 wash-down protection, so dust and damp are contemplated in the design. Starting is Wye-Delta reduced-voltage, which keeps the inrush current off your supply at switch-on. Low-oil shutdown is fitted to both the engine and the pump.

The Infologic2 Basic controller handles the day-to-day — programmable auto-restart, remote start and stop, and a display showing pressure, temperature, dewpoint and motor start limits. It also supports sequencing across a group of QGS machines in the 20 to 30 HP band, up to six of them, so this unit can later become one member of a managed set rather than a lone machine competing with a neighbour for the same header.

Will it fit, and can your supply carry it?

Dimensions are 74 in long by 30.7 in wide by 72.2 in tall, and the unit weighs 1,201 lbs. Leave working room at the doors: the panels are hinged and detachable for service, and a compressor jammed against a wall is a compressor nobody maintains properly. The receiver outlet is 1 inch, which is the size your distribution pipework should be taken from.

Electrically this is a 208-230/460V 3-phase machine with a magnetic starter fitted. Quincy publishes neither an amp draw nor a recommended breaker size for it — both fields read "Consult Certified Electrician" — and we are not going to invent either one. A 25 HP three-phase load deserves a licensed electrician's sizing of the service, the feeder and the disconnect before the machine ships. Electrical supply, siting and permits are the customer's responsibility.

Perfect for

Production shops that have outgrown a smaller screw compressor but not the space it stood in. Fabrication, machining and heavy automotive work with several high-consumption tools running at once. Facilities planning a sequenced pair of compressors. As a three-phase industrial unit it is not a candidate for a home garage or any building on single-phase service.

Deliberately absent from that table: free-air delivery and sound level. Both figures exist in this product's data with no unit recorded against them, and an unlabelled number is not a specification we are willing to publish. Ask us and we will quote them from the current Quincy datasheet.

What's included

From the manufacturer's own feature list and specification table: the QGS rotary screw compressor with gear-driven airend, the Infologic2 Basic Controller and display panel, the TEFC motor with IP 55 wash-down protection, the 132 gallon horizontal receiver, aftercooler, air filter, pressure gauge, oil sight glass, magnetic starter, low-oil shutdown and spin-on fluid filter. An electronic drain valve is not included — budget for a manual drain routine or an aftermarket automatic one. The refrigerant dryer is the disputed item discussed above.

Shipping and delivery

This unit ships as freight within the lower 48 states. The freight cost is calculated live at checkout for your specific address rather than printed here, because freight pricing changes and an out-of-date figure on a page helps nobody. It arrives on a truck weighing well over half a ton, and the driver is not equipped to lower it for you: arrange a dock, a forklift rated for the load, or plan to collect from the carrier's terminal. Deliveries to residential addresses carry a residential fee. Before you sign anything, inspect the crate — corners, base, panels — and record any damage on the bill of lading, because a clean signature is treated as your confirmation that it arrived undamaged.

Warranty

Standard coverage recorded for this machine is 1 Year consumer and 1 Year commercial. An extended 3 Year factory warranty can be purchased, and the True Blue 5-Year warranty is available where a Quincy authorized start-up commissions the unit. The start-up requirement is a condition of that longer cover, so book it as part of the installation rather than treating it as optional. Should something go wrong, stop the machine and contact us before any part of it is taken apart — a partly dismantled compressor is a claim that gets much harder to win.
