Nearly every reciprocating air compressor sold is splash lubricated: the crankshaft dips into the sump and slings oil around the crankcase. It works, it has worked for a century, and it is what almost everything in this bracket does. The QP Pro does something different. A gerotor positive-displacement oil pump pushes oil under pressure to the crankshaft, the bearings and the connecting rods — the same arrangement as the engine in your car — and Quincy puts the difference at up to 15% more service life than a splash-lubricated equivalent. That one design decision is what this 208V machine exists for.

What pressure lubrication actually buys

The argument is not that splash lubrication is bad. It is that splash lubrication is conditional. Oil reaches a bearing because the crank throws it there, which makes delivery depend on oil level, oil temperature and how thick the oil has become on a cold morning. A pressure system does not care: the oil pump supplies a bearing at a controlled rate from the first revolution, whether the crankcase is cold, low or working hard. On a compressor that spends its life at high load in a shop that starts cold in winter, that is the difference between wear you plan for and wear you discover.

Pressure feed also makes a spin-on oil filter possible, and that filter is fitted here. A splash system cannot usefully have one, because nothing is pushing oil through the filter medium. Filtration matters more in a compressor than people expect: the machine is deliberately breathing dusty shop air, and whatever gets past the intake filter ends up in the oil, then in the bearings. Clean oil arriving under pressure at a loaded bearing is the entire case for this pump, and it is a case you can inspect for yourself with an oil sample rather than take on trust.

Maintenance you can actually keep up with

Practically, the QP Pro asks for a rhythm rather than an overhaul. The oil sight glass lets you check level without tools or spillage. The spin-on filter changes like a car filter instead of requiring the crankcase to be dropped. The cast-iron cylinders and the fin and tube intercooler between stages hold interstage temperature down, and lower temperature is what keeps oil in condition between changes. None of that is exotic; the point is that it is all reachable while the machine sits in place, which is what determines whether maintenance actually happens in a working shop.

Will It Fit?

This is a horizontal 120-gallon receiver, 78 inches long, 28 inches wide and 55 inches high, weighing 995 lbs dry. Give it more room than the footprint suggests: belt guard access at the pump end, clear air to the cooling fan, and space to get a drum or a drain pan under the receiver. Air leaves through a 1-inch outlet, which is sized for hard pipe rather than a hose reel, and maximum pressure is 175 PSI.

Electrically this is the 208V 3-phase build. Measure the voltage at your own panel rather than trusting the label on whatever is installed next to it, because the two common three-phase shop supplies are not interchangeable and the wrong one shows up as poor starting under load and a motor that runs hot. A magnetic starter is included; breaker and conductor sizing depends on your service and the length of the run, and Quincy declines to publish a number for exactly that reason — the instruction is to consult a certified electrician. Confirming your supply, your access route and your floor area before ordering is the buyer responsibility, and it is much cheaper to do it now than after a freight truck has arrived.

Confirm the motor rating before you order

Published figures for the motor differ. The product title, the model designation and the heading on this page all give this compressor as a 15 HP machine; one block of the specification data on this page records a smaller motor rating, with a free air delivery figure to match it. The 15 HP figure is the one carried through this page, because the title, the model number and the page heading agree on it, and the other figure is set out here rather than left off. Motor rating is not a detail at this size: it drives your breaker, your conductors and your air budget. Certification, Stated Plainly

The specification sheet records ASME, UL and CSA marks against this compressor. The ASME mark is the important one and it is narrower than most buyers assume: it certifies the pressure vessel — the receiver, its design, its material and how it was built. It says nothing about the pump, the motor or the air quality, and it is not a substitute for whatever periodic inspection your jurisdiction requires of a vessel this size, nor for a permit if one is needed. The electrical marks apply to motor and control components. Confirm the local requirements for a receiver of this capacity before the machine is installed, because retrofitting compliance is always more expensive than planning for it.

Shipping and Delivery

Delivery is by freight carrier within the lower 48 states, and the shipping cost is calculated live at checkout for your address rather than fixed in advance. Before you order, settle two things. The first is unloading: nothing about this crate can be lifted by hand, so you need a forklift or a loading dock at the destination, or you can choose to pick the shipment up from the freight terminal yourself. The second is the address type — a residential delivery is a different job for a carrier and carries a residential fee, so declare the destination accurately.

When the truck arrives, look the shipment over before signing anything. Bent guards, a damaged gauge, oil where there should not be oil, or a corner of the receiver that has clearly met a forklift are all worth noting on the bill of lading at that moment. Damage recorded on the paperwork is straightforward to claim; damage discovered after a clean signature usually is not.

Warranty

Register when the machine lands rather than when a problem appears, because the extension is conditional on it.
