Quincy 473DS80VCB23 QT Pro — 7.5 HP, 80-Gallon Vertical Two-Stage Air Compressor, 230V 3-Phase

A tall compressor on a small base is a vibration problem waiting to happen, and this is where the QT Pro spends its engineering budget. The crankshaft is counter-weighted and the cast iron flywheel is balanced, so the reciprocating masses cancel each other rather than being transmitted into the tank, the floor and the building. On a vertical 80-gallon receiver standing about 74" tall, that is not a refinement — it is what keeps the machine standing still, quiet and in one piece.

The manufacturer states the unit is built in the USA. It is a 7.5 HP two-stage machine on 230V 3-Phase supply, rated for a 100% duty cycle, and designed to spend its life running rather than resting.

One thing we are not printing, and why

You will not find a delivered-air figure on this page. Our specification feed does carry a number for this pump, but for this particular build it arrives with no unit attached — and a bare digit sitting next to the word airflow is not a specification. Several of this machine's siblings are documented cleanly and this one is not. Copying the neighbour's figure across would be the easy thing to do and it is precisely the thing that gets a buyer the wrong compressor. Ask us and we will get the delivered air at pressure from Quincy in writing before you commit. The maximum pressure of 175 PSI is solid and appears below.

And the older copy on this page described a capacitor-start motor, which is a single-phase arrangement rather than a three-phase one; we have not carried that claim forward.

What smooth running is actually worth

Vibration is the tax a reciprocating compressor charges the rest of your shop. It loosens fittings, it fatigues copper lines at their brackets, it walks a machine across a floor over a few years, and it is the reason a cheap compressor sounds tired at three years old. A counter-weighted crankshaft and a heavy balanced flywheel attack it at the source, before it becomes noise and before it becomes wear.

The flywheel earns its keep twice: it is also a fan casting, pulling cooling air across the intercooler and the cylinder heads every revolution. Heat and vibration are the two things that kill air compressors, and one heavy iron component here is fighting both of them.

Two-stage compression, and 175 PSI

The pump works in two steps. A large cylinder takes atmospheric air up to an intermediate pressure, a high-efficiency finned tube intercooler between the stages removes the heat that compression just created, and a smaller cylinder takes the cooled, denser charge the rest of the way to 175 PSI. That intermediate cooling is the whole reason a two-stage machine reaches high pressure without cooking itself: the second stage is compressing cool air, which takes less work and leaves less carbon on the valves.

The construction underneath is deliberately conservative. Two cast iron cylinders under an aluminum head, industrial-class bearings, graphite gaskets that keep sealing hot, stainless steel reed valves that shrug off the condensate every compressor makes, and a belt drive that lets the pump turn well below motor speed. Quincy quotes a pump life beyond 50,000 hours for this family — a design figure that assumes the oil gets changed and the intake filter gets cleaned, not a promise that ignores maintenance.

Will it fit, and what does it need?

Standing up, the machine needs about 37" by 24" of floor and roughly 74" of height. Check the height first, and check it where the machine will actually stand: ducting, lighting, sprinkler heads, mezzanine edges and door tracks all live in that band, and you need working room above the pump for the oil fill and the belt guard on top of the bare height of the tank.

It weighs about 720 lbs, concentrated on a small base, so flat sound concrete, proper levelling and secure mounting are not optional on a machine this shape. Leave air around the pump — a compressor in a sealed cupboard runs hot and dies early. The tank outlet is 3/4".

Power. The motor is wound for 230V 3-Phase and cannot be changed to anything else; check the measured voltage at your panel before choosing between the members of this family. A magnetic starter is fitted. Quincy publishes no breaker size for this build and its own sheet says to consult a certified electrician, which is exactly our position. Confirming the supply, providing the circuit and disconnect and providing a floor rated for the load are the buyer's responsibility.

Not included on this build: air dryer, aftercooler, electronic drain valve and pump low-oil shutdown, together with site piping, hose and any point-of-use regulation or filtration.

Certification, stated plainly

The current product information states that the electrical components carry UL and CSA approvals, and the specification sheet lists ASME for the pressure vessel. Those are separate documents covering separate parts of the machine, and neither of them is a statement about your installation or a substitute for whatever inspection your jurisdiction or your insurer expects of a receiver this size. If a specific listing is a condition of your cover, confirm it against the data plate before you buy. We will send you what the manufacturer publishes.

Warranty

Cover is a 1-year factory warranty, which extends to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty under Quincy's own programme and its own conditions, registration among them. Ask us and we will put in writing which conditions apply to this model before you order — well ahead of any claim. And the standing rule: leave the pump assembled until the claim is agreed, because a dismantled pump cannot be assessed.

Freight and delivery

Shipped freight on a pallet, lower 48 states. You will need a forklift or a pallet jack at the delivery address; failing that, terminal pickup with a trailer works well and we will arrange it. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee. Freight is quoted live at checkout so the figure is current.

Look the machine over before you sign for it — tank, guard, motor, gauges and the pallet underneath — and record any damage on the bill of lading with the driver there. A clean signature is very hard to argue with later.
