Quincy states plainly on this product that it is built in the USA, and on a reciprocating compressor that claim has a practical edge rather than a patriotic one: parts availability. A pump that is manufactured domestically is a pump whose valve plates, gaskets, rings and bearings can still be bought in ten years' time, from a supply chain that a service technician can actually reach. On a machine that is expected to run for decades and is designed to be rebuilt rather than replaced, that is worth more than most of the spec sheet.

This is the 460V three-phase build of the QT MAX, delivering 22.6 CFM at 175 PSI from a two-stage cast-iron pump into an 80-gallon vertical ASME certified receiver, driven by a 7.5 HP motor.

Designed to Be Rebuilt

The industrial giveaway on this machine is not its output, it is its construction. Cast-iron cylinders with aluminium heads, a belt drive rather than a direct-coupled pump, and two-piece connecting rods all point the same way: this is equipment intended to be opened, measured and put back together. A consumer compressor with an aluminium block and a pressed-together assembly reaches the end of its life the first time it needs internal work. This one reaches a service interval.

That is also why the domestic build matters. A rebuildable machine is only rebuildable while the parts exist.

460V, and Why It Is Cheaper to Connect

A 7.5 HP motor wound for 460V draws roughly half the current of the same motor at a lower voltage. Less current means smaller conductors, a smaller disconnect and far less voltage drop over a long run, which is exactly the situation in a plant where the compressor sits at one end of the building and the switchgear at the other. If your facility distributes 460V, this is the build to specify.

It cannot be run on a lower-voltage supply, and there is no field conversion. Confirm the service at the panel before ordering. Quincy publishes no fixed breaker size and refers the installation to a certified electrician, since the correct device depends on conductor sizing, run length and local code. A magnetic starter is included, providing thermal overload protection and contactor-controlled starting. The circuit, site preparation and permits are the customer's responsibility.

Handling Heat and Water

Between the two stages sits a high-efficiency finned intercooler, cooling the charge before the high-pressure cylinder so it moves denser air and does less work reaching 175 PSI. Downstream of the pump, an air-cooled aftercooler drops the discharge temperature, condensing moisture inside the machine instead of in your distribution pipework, and an automatic tank drain clears what settles in the receiver without relying on anyone to open a valve.

Water is the quiet destroyer of shop air systems, corroding pipe from the inside, wrecking air tools and spoiling finishes. Dealing with it at the compressor rather than at the point of use is by far the cheaper approach.

Oil Protection

Lubrication is splash type, with an extra-capacity oil reserve and a low-oil protection system that halts the compressor if the level falls below a safe point. On a splash-lubricated pump that sensor is the most valuable component on the machine, because the failure it prevents is the one that turns a compressor into scrap in a matter of minutes.

The receiver is vertical: 37" long, 24" wide, 74" tall, 720 lbs. Ceiling height is the constraint that catches people, and you need clearance above the unit to work on the head and belts, not just to stand it up. Site it on a flat, level, load-bearing slab with access to the drain at the base.

Certification, Honestly

The receiver is ASME certified and the manufacturer's data lists a CSA marking alongside it. These are separate certifications with separate scopes: a pressure vessel certification concerns the tank's design, welding and inspection under a pressure vessel code, and an electrical safety marking concerns the motor and control gear. Holding one is not evidence of the other.

Note too that a domestic build is a statement about manufacture, not a certification, and it should not be read as one. When the compressor arrives, verify the markings physically present on its data plate, because that is what an inspector, an insurer or a plant safety officer will read. If a specific listing is a condition of your local code, your insurance or a corporate standard, confirm it against the plate before installation.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight carrier, lower 48 states. The unit weighs 720 lbs and travels upright on a pallet, so unloading requires a forklift, a dock, or a pickup arranged at the freight terminal in advance. A residential delivery carries a residential fee.

Inspect the machine before signing for it. Check the guards, the aftercooler and the drain fittings, look for a receiver that has moved against its bracing, and record every finding on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. Damage reported after a clean signature is rarely recovered.

Warranty

The compressor is covered by a 1-year factory warranty, which extends to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty when Quincy's conditions are satisfied. Those are set at the point of sale and generally require the matching maintenance kit to be bought with the machine and the unit to be registered with the manufacturer, so arrange both at the time of order. The warranty documentation supplied with the compressor is the governing document.
