Every listing for this machine leads with "1-Year factory warranty, extends to 3-Year No Bull warranty". Here is the part that usually goes unsaid: on Quincy's own terms the extension is conditional. The maintenance kit has to be bought at the time of purchase, and the unit has to be registered with Quincy. Miss either and you have a one-year warranty that you believed was a three-year one.

We would rather sell you the compressor and the condition together. What sits underneath is a 5 HP, 460 Volt, 3-Phase machine with a two-stage cast-iron pump on an upright 80-gallon receiver, rated for 100% duty.

The warranty, in full

The extended cover includes on-site and labour service and covers defects in materials and workmanship, which is a genuinely strong position and worth having. To hold it, Quincy requires the maintenance kit to be included at time of purchase and the unit registered on their site; the warranty page under the manual tab on this listing sets out the detail.

Two practical consequences. First, order the kit with the machine rather than afterwards — the condition is about the time of purchase, not about eventually owning one. Second, register it when it is commissioned, while the paperwork is still on the desk and not in a drawer. If either point is unclear, ask us before you order and we will confirm the current terms in writing — well before claim time.

Why 460 Volt

This is the highest-voltage member of the family, and it exists for buildings rather than for compressors. The same 5 HP at a higher supply voltage draws proportionally less current, and current is what determines conductor size. On a long run across a plant floor or out to a back workshop, that is the difference between a sensible cable and an expensive one. Our specification data records the lowest current of the family for this build, and it is the reason to choose it — provided your building actually distributes at 460 Volt.

It is also the reason not to choose it otherwise. The motor is wound for this supply and cannot be reconfigured on site, so confirm what is at the panel that will feed it before ordering. As for the circuit itself: give your electrician 5 HP, 460 Volt, 3-Phase and let them size conductors and protection for your run length and local code. We will supply the manufacturer's current figure in writing for a panel schedule on request.

The pump

A high-performance cast-iron belt-drive pump with an aluminium head, splash lubricated, compressing in two stages with a high-efficiency finned tube intercooler between them. The cast-iron cylinders hold rigid tolerances under load; graphite cylinder and head gaskets seal positively; the reed valves are stainless steel with controlled lift, which is a corrosion decision as much as an efficiency one, because a compressor makes water every day it runs. Quincy states a pump life in excess of 50,000 hours.

The intercooler is the component doing the least obvious work. Cooling the charge between stages both raises what the pump can deliver at pressure and prevents carbon building in the head — the process that quietly ends valve life on machines run hard. Two-piece connecting rods keep the moving assembly simple, and a large balanced cast-iron flywheel, angled for cooling, with a counter-weighted crankshaft, is what makes a machine this size run smoothly enough to be worth the weight.

About the delivered-air figure

We will not headline a flow rating on this listing. Our specification record puts the pump at 17.2 cubic feet per minute, but that value reaches us in a field whose unit is not established anywhere else in this product's own data, and an air system designed around a wrong flow figure is an expensive thing to discover late. If your decision depends on delivered air at a stated pressure, ask us and we will confirm it in writing against the current Quincy sheet before you commit.

Will it fit?

Upright, the machine takes about 37" by 24" of floor and stands roughly 74" tall. Measure to whatever is above the intended corner before delivery day — shelving, ductwork, a door track — and leave working room around the belt guard and drain.

The floor is a customer responsibility and a real one: 680 lbs standing tall on four feet magnifies any unevenness, and a rocking machine loosens its own mounts and puts vibration into the building. Flat, solid, level. The outlet is 3/4" and no air dryer is fitted, so treatment belongs in the line.

The current copy claims UL and CSA approval on all electrical components, and the specification data records the receiver as a coded pressure vessel built to the American standard. Those are the claims, and they are worth having.

They are not a third-party safety listing of the assembled machine as installed. That is a distinct document, and some insurers, fleet standards and local inspectors ask for it specifically on fixed, hard-wired plant. We are not going to let component approvals imply it. If your installation or your cover requires that listing, ask us before you order rather than after the machine is bolted to the floor.

Shipping and receiving

Palletised freight, lower 48 states, priced live at checkout against your delivery address rather than from a table.

Get the unloading arranged before the order goes in. The carrier's responsibility stops at the tailgate, so a dock, a forklift or a pallet jack on firm level ground is what you need on site. Where that is not possible, terminal pickup lets you collect from the carrier's yard with your own equipment. Deliveries to a home address are residential and carry a residential fee.

Inspect before signing, every time. Damage noted on the bill of lading with the driver present can be claimed; damage discovered after a clean signature usually cannot. Photograph the pallet, the crate and anything that looks out of place.
