Quincy 4103D12VCB20M QT MAX - 10 HP, 120 Gallon Vertical, Two-Stage, 208V 3-Phase

Compressed air comes out of a pump hot and saturated. As it cools in your pipework the water condenses, and that water is what rusts lines, spoils paint jobs and shortens the life of every air tool downstream. The QT MAX deals with the problem where it starts: it has a built-in air-cooled aftercooler, so a large part of the moisture drops out at the machine instead of travelling into your shop.

That is the practical difference between this and a plainer two-stage compressor of the same size, including Quincy own QP Pro range. Otherwise the specification is exactly what a busy shop wants: 10 HP, 35 CFM at 175 PSI, a splash-lubricated cast iron pump on a 120 gallon vertical ASME tank, and 208 Volt 3-phase power through a factory-fitted magnetic starter.

Two things to confirm with us before you order

Two details are worth settling in writing before the order goes in.

The model code. Two codes are published for this machine. The product title, the description heading and the specification block all say 4103D12VCB20M; the web address of this page says 2103D12VCB20M. Send us the code from your quote or purchase order and we will confirm the build with the manufacturer.

The automatic tank drain. Published details differ: the feature list and the product description both say this unit has an automatic electronic tank drain, while the specification field for the electronic drain valve says it does not. If the automatic drain matters to your decision - and if nobody in your shop is going to remember to crack a manual drain daily, it should - ask us to confirm it in writing before you order.

Why an aftercooler earns its keep

An aftercooler is a heat exchanger between the pump and the tank. Air leaves the second stage hot, passes through the cooler, and drops most of the way back toward ambient temperature before it enters the receiver. Cool air cannot hold as much water vapour as hot air, so the moisture condenses right there and collects in the tank rather than in your lines.

Two consequences follow. Your downstream filtration and any dryer you own have far less water to deal with, so elements last and a desiccant bed is not permanently saturated. And the air that reaches a tool or a spray gun is meaningfully drier, which is the difference between a blast cabinet that works and one that clogs.

Between the pump stages there is also a high-efficiency finned intercooler. That is a different job: it cools the air between first and second stage so the second stage is not asked to compress hot gas. Cooler interstage air means less work, lower discharge temperatures and longer valve life. Together the two coolers are why a two-stage machine with proper cooling behaves so differently from a large single-stage unit on paper specifications alone.

Sizing, siting and power

35 CFM at 175 PSI is a genuine multi-technician output: impact tools, a sander, a blast cabinet or a spray gun, with the 120 gallon receiver absorbing the peaks so the pump is not short-cycling all day.

Physically it is a vertical machine, roughly 40 inches by 30 inches on the floor and about 75 inches tall, weighing 1,000 lbs. Measure the ceiling and the height of every door and shutter on the route in before you order. The pad must be level and solid, with clearance all round for cooling air - an aftercooler is only as good as the air you let reach it - and for access to the drain and the sight glass. Confirming floor, clearance and access is the customer responsibility.

Power is 208 Volt 3-phase. The magnetic starter with thermal overload protection is fitted and wired at the factory. Quincy publishes no breaker size and directs you to a certified electrician, because the conductors depend on the length of your run and on local code.

Perfect For

  • Paint and body shops, where water in the line is not an inconvenience but a redo.
  • Blasting and cabinet work, which stops dead when damp air packs the media.
  • Multi-bay service shops needing 35 CFM continuously rather than in short bursts.
  • Humid climates, where an aftercooler stops being a luxury around June.

Not for a home garage - there is no 208 Volt 3-phase supply in a house, and this is half a ton of machine.

What Is In The Box

A factory-assembled compressor: two-stage pump, motor, belt drive and guard on the 120 gallon vertical tank, with the aftercooler, intercooler, magnetic starter, low oil cut-off and oil sight glass fitted. Warranty documentation ships with the unit.

You supply the electrical feed and disconnect, the pipework beyond the 1 inch tank outlet, any further filtration or drying, isolation pads and the first oil change. The EWK-4 maintenance kit is a separate purchase, and it is the item tied to the extended warranty described below - order it with the machine if you intend to take that route. No air dryer is fitted.

Certification, stated honestly

The certification line Quincy publishes for this unit lists an ASME tank with UL and CSA marks. That is a statement about the equipment as built and it is a good one to have.

It is not a statement about your installation. Nothing on the machine certifies that your feeder, disconnect, protection or ventilation meet code in your jurisdiction - your electrician decides that, and an inspector confirms it if a permit is involved. If an insurer or an authority having jurisdiction wants the compliance file, ask us before you order and we will obtain it from the manufacturer.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout from the ZIP code you enter so the price is for your address rather than an average. A residential address carries a residential fee; a commercial address with a dock or forklift is cheaper, and terminal pickup is cheaper again.

You need to be able to take it off the truck. The driver stops at the kerb, and 1,000 lbs needs a forklift, a dock or a booked terminal collection with the right equipment.

Inspect it before you sign. Check the crate, the tank shell, the aftercooler, the pump and the motor, and note any damage on the bill of lading with the driver still there. Signing a clean receipt first and complaining afterwards is how good claims are lost.

Warranty

The machine carries a 1-year factory warranty as standard. Quincy also offers an extension: buy the EWK-4 maintenance kit at the time of sale and register the compressor inside the manufacturer registration window, and the package extends to two years with a 3-year pump warranty including onsite parts and labour cover.

Those terms are the manufacturer, not ours, and they change from time to time - confirm the current requirements with us in writing before you count on them. Whatever happens, do not strip the pump, the motor or the starter before the claim is opened. An opened unit is extremely difficult to warrant. Call us first, keep the parts and take photographs.
