-Description
-Quincy 4103D12HCB46M QT MAX 10 HP 120-Gallon Two-Stage Air Compressor, 460V 3-Phase
This is the 460V build of Quincy’s horizontal QT MAX. Mechanically it is the same machine as the lower-voltage builds of the same model — the same two-stage cast-iron pump, the same 120-gallon horizontal receiver, the same 1,750 RPM industrial motor speed, the same finned intercooler and built-in aftercooler. What changes is the motor winding and the magnetic starter, and that change is made at the factory and cannot be undone in your shop.
We lead with that because choosing the wrong voltage is the ordering mistake we see more than any other on machines of this size, and it is an expensive one to correct once a crated 850 lb compressor is standing on your floor.
Why a plant runs 460V
For a given horsepower, current falls as supply voltage rises. That is not a manufacturer’s claim, it is simply how electrical power works, and it is the entire reason larger industrial buildings distribute at 460V. Lower current for the same 10 HP means smaller conductors for the same voltage drop, which matters when the compressor room is a long cable run from the panel, and it means the starter and the overload devices are handling a gentler load.
If your building already has 460V 3-phase available, this is the part number to order. If it does not, do not buy this one and plan to add a transformer — buy the build that matches the service you actually have. We stock the same compressor wound for the two lower commercial service voltages for exactly that reason, and we would rather sell you the right one than the one you clicked first.
The pump, the tank and the cooling
Air is compressed in two stages. The first cylinder takes it to an intermediate pressure; the high-efficiency finned intercooler removes the heat that compression just put into it; the second cylinder finishes the job. Maximum rated pressure is 175 PSI. Compressing a cooler, denser charge in the second stage is less work than compressing a hot one, which shows up as lower discharge temperatures and longer oil life rather than as a number on a box.
After the pump, the built-in air-cooled aftercooler takes another pass at the discharge temperature, driven by a fan that varies its speed with temperature. Cooling the air before the receiver is what forces water to condense in the tank rather than in your pipework, and the automatic electronic tank drain then removes it without anyone having to remember.
The pump itself is cast iron with aluminium heads, splash lubricated, with an extra-capacity oil reserve, an oil sight glass and a low oil cut-off switch that shuts the machine down before a falling oil level reaches the bearings. Quincy rates the pump past 50,000 hours.
Will It Fit?
- Supply: 460V, 3-phase, and nothing else. There is no link, tap or jumper on this unit that converts it to another service voltage.
- Circuit: have a certified electrician size the breaker and the conductors. We do not publish a breaker rating for this model, because the correct answer is a function of your cable run and your local code.
- Length and width: 78" by 28". Horizontal packages want a run of wall rather than a square of floor.
- Height: 55" overall, low enough to clear a mezzanine deck or a duct run.
- Weight: 850 lbs before oil. Set it on a sound, level slab.
- Air connection: 1" tank outlet.
Confirming the service is the buyer’s job. Please put a meter on the panel — or have your electrician do it — before you order a 460V machine. A vague belief about what the building is fed at has cost more than one customer a restocking exercise. Slab suitability, ventilation, and permitting of the electrical work are also the buyer’s responsibility.
Perfect For
- Manufacturing and fabrication plants distributing at 460V, where the compressor is one load among many on an existing three-phase system.
- Long cable runs from the switchgear to a remote compressor room.
- Fleet and municipal maintenance shops housed inside larger industrial buildings.
- Low-headroom mechanical rooms that can take 78" of length but not a tall vertical receiver.
What is in the Box
The complete compressor package: horizontal 120-gallon receiver, two-stage cast-iron pump with aluminium heads, 10 HP industrial motor, magnetic starter with thermal overload protection, finned intercooler, built-in air-cooled aftercooler, automatic electronic tank drain, low oil cut-off switch and oil sight glass. No air dryer is supplied with this unit. The EWK-4 Maintenance Kit that unlocks the extended warranty is a separate line item and has to be bought at the same time.

Two figures are missing from that table on purpose: delivered air volume and full-load current. Our catalogue holds both as bare numbers with no unit recorded against them, and we will quote you the manufacturer’s published values directly rather than republish a figure whose unit we cannot evidence.
Certification, stated plainly
The tank is built to the North American pressure-vessel code, and the machine carries a CSA mark. There is also a reference in our supplier data to a North American third-party electrical listing. We are not printing that mark, because the record is not clean and a certification claim is not something to round up. If your plant safety programme, your insurer or your electrical inspector requires a particular listing on a 460V machine, ask us first and we will confirm what is actually on the data plate.
One thing to confirm with us
Our product data contradicts itself about the tank drain. The manufacturer feature list and our full specification block both record an automatic electronic tank drain on this model; one summary field in our catalogue records the opposite. Rather than pick the answer we like, we are telling you there is a conflict — ask us to confirm against the shipping configuration if the electronic drain is part of why you are buying it.
Shipping and delivery
We ship this unit by freight carrier within the lower 48 states. It arrives crated on a skid and it is heavy enough that unloading has to be arranged in advance, with a forklift or a dock. The driver brings it to you; moving it off the truck and into position is the receiving end. Terminal pickup is available if you would rather bring your own trailer and equipment to the freight terminal.
Residential delivery addresses carry a residential fee. If the machine is going to a home shop rather than a commercial address, say so when you order so the quote is right the first time.
Do the damage inspection before the driver pulls away. Walk the crate, photograph anything that looks wrong, and note it on the bill of lading. Signing a clean bill of lading closes the door on most freight claims.
Warranty
Quincy covers the machine with a 1-year factory warranty, consumer and commercial alike. Purchasing the EWK-4 Maintenance Kit at the time of purchase extends the term to the 3-year "No Bull" warranty, which includes on-site service and labour, not just replacement parts. The compressor must be registered with the manufacturer for the extended cover to apply.
And the warning that saves more claims than any other: do not disassemble anything before you call. A pump that has already been opened cannot be diagnosed, and that is the single most common reason a genuine warranty claim ends up refused.
