Pump speed is what quietly decides how long a piston compressor lasts. Every revolution is a cycle of heat, load and wear on rings, valves and bearings, so a pump that turns slowly to make the same air does less work on itself per hour of running and runs cooler while it does it. Continuous consumers behave differently: a sander, a blast cabinet or a spray gun draws steadily for as long as it is triggered, and two of those running together will out-consume most single-machine installations regardless of tank size.
