Champion VR10-12: the same 120-gallon package, turned on its end to give you the floor back
The VR10-12 is the upright member of a pair. It carries the same 120-gallon receiver and the same 895 lbs of machine as its horizontal sibling, but it stands the tank up: 43" across the base and 81" to the top. In a shop where the constraint is square footage rather than headroom — and in most shops it is — that swap turns a machine that ate a six-foot run of wall into one that occupies a little over three and a half feet.
It is a reciprocating, splash-lubricated shop compressor with a 10 HP motor on 230V service, built for the small-to-mid commercial workload: a few mechanics, a painter or two, a car wash, a fabrication bench. Not a hobby machine, and not a plant compressor either.
Will It Fit?
Vertical compressors get bought on footprint and then fail on height, so check the ceiling first and the floor second.

Height, and then some. The unit is 81" tall. Your ceiling has to clear that plus working room above the safety valve and the top of the tank, plus whatever a service technician needs to get a wrench above the pump. A ceiling that clears the machine by an inch is not a ceiling that clears the machine.

Footprint. 43" across. That is the number that makes this model worth its height, and it is why it suits a shop that is short on wall rather than short on roof.

Stability. A tall, heavy vessel on a small base wants a flat, level slab. Sloped floors, timber decks and patched slabs are worth a conversation before delivery.

Electrical service. Supplied for 230V. Confirm your available supply and breaker sizing with an electrician before the machine arrives.

Handling. 895 lbs and top-heavy once uncrated. Plan the route from the truck to the final position, including door heights, before delivery day rather than during it.

Air connection. A 3/4" tank outlet, sitting higher off the floor than on a horizontal tank, which usually simplifies the first run of pipe.

Why a vertical tank changes your plumbing, not just your floor plan
Standing the receiver up does one thing that is rarely mentioned and worth knowing: condensate collects in a deep column at the bottom of the tank rather than spreading in a shallow pool along its length. That makes draining more effective per drain cycle, and it makes a neglected drain more of a problem, because the water has nowhere to go but up into your air line. There is no electronic drain valve fitted to this unit, so the drain is a manual habit — a daily one in a humid shop, weekly at the least in a dry one.
The corollary is that the take-off sits well above the water line, so with a sloped shop main and a drop leg at each station a vertical receiver tends to deliver drier air than an undrained horizontal one of the same volume.
The pump, and the parts of it that decide its life
A splash-lubricated reciprocating pump with multi-finned cylinders, an integral cylinder head and intercooling between stages — the fins exist so the hottest metal in the machine carries the most surface area to shed heat. An oil-level sight glass turns the one maintenance check that matters into a walk-past.
Oversized main bearings and a balanced crankshaft are the anti-vibration pair, and vibration is what actually retires reciprocating compressors — years of shaking loosening fasteners rather than any dramatic failure. High-flow disc valves govern how efficient the machine still is in year five.
The centrifugal unloader is an electrical kindness. It vents the head at shutdown so the motor restarts against no pressure. A 10 HP motor starting into a loaded head pulls its worst inrush on every cycle, and on a shop panel shared with lifts and lighting that is how breakers get a reputation.
What the options list is really telling you
The published options include an electric fuel pump, a canvas cover for engine-driven models, heavy-duty vibration isolators and standalone fuel tanks in 9-gallon and 5-gallon sizes. Three of those five only make sense on an engine-driven machine, so the list is evidence that this pump is also sold on a fuel-powered skid for sites with no supply. For the electric unit here the useful option is the isolator set: a tall vertical tank transmits pump vibration into a slab efficiently, and isolators are far easier to specify at order time than to retro-fit.

Certification, stated plainly
No third-party safety listing is claimed for this compressor anywhere in the data we hold, so none is claimed here. Shop pressure equipment and its electrics fall under local rules that differ by jurisdiction, and some insurers and fleet policies require a specific listing on the packaged machine. If that is you, ask us to confirm in writing what documentation accompanies this unit before ordering.
Shipping and delivery
Freight only, to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout because carrier rates move. An 895 lbs crate needs a forklift, a dock, or a pallet jack and a level approach; failing that, take terminal pickup from the carrier — a normal choice, not a fallback. Residential addresses carry a residential fee. Inspect before you sign: look along the tank for dents, check the pump and motor for damage, and write anything you find on the paperwork at the moment you find it.
Warranty
