Champion LVR05PURVS-8 7.5 HP Rotary Vane Air Compressor, 80 Gallon Vertical

This is the vertical-tank version, and floor space is the whole argument for it. Standing the 80 gallon receiver on its end brings the machine's footprint down to roughly 39 inches on its long side, so the same air capacity occupies a corner instead of a wall. In a shop where every square foot is a bay, a bench or a parts rack, that is not a detail. It is often the reason a compressor of this size can go inside at all.

The machinery is Champion's rotary vane design: a cast iron airend driven directly by a TEFC motor at 1760 RPM, rated 7.5 HP with a working pressure of 150 PSI, oil carryover of 3 ppm, and high temperature safety shutdown protection fitted as standard.

What the vertical layout actually buys

Compare like for like and the trade is straightforward. A horizontal tank spreads its volume along the floor and asks for a clear run of wall. A vertical tank puts that same volume upward, so the machine claims a compact rectangle you can tuck against a column, into a corner or inside a compressor closet. Around it, you keep the wall for benches, shelving and lifts.

There is a second, quieter benefit. Condensate collects at the bottom of any receiver, and in a vertical tank the bottom is a small area directly under the whole column of air, with the drain sitting at the lowest point. Water goes where the drain is instead of pooling along the length of a horizontal shell. Drain it regularly and the tank thanks you for it.

The cost of the layout is height, so measure before you buy. Vertical machines want ceiling clearance, and they want clearance above the tank for the airend, the motor and any service access. Our record for this unit does not carry the overall height in a form we are willing to publish, so we have not printed a figure. Ask us and we will read it from the factory drawing rather than let you plan around a guess.

Rotary vane, direct drive, and why it is quiet

A vane airend has no reciprocating mass. A rotor turns inside a cast iron housing and the vanes ride out against the bore, producing air continuously instead of in pulses. There is nothing hammering back and forth to shake the floor, no pulsation for downstream equipment to absorb, and no belt in the drive at all, so no tensioning, no alignment and no belt replacement on the maintenance schedule.

Running at 1760 RPM keeps both the noise and the wear rate down. Combined with the TEFC motor, that makes this a machine you can install near people. The 3 ppm oil carryover figure is the other half of the story, and it is measured with the CS300 vane diester lubricant the airend is factory filled with, so keep using that fluid rather than a general-purpose compressor oil.

Will it fit, and what does it need?

Plan for a footprint around 39 inches on the long side and a weight of about 695 lbs, concentrated over a much smaller area than a horizontal machine of similar mass. The floor needs to be solid and genuinely level: a tall, heavy, narrow object on an uneven slab is a stability question, not just a wear question.

Leave clear air around the motor and airend so the TEFC frame can shed heat, and leave access to the drain at the bottom of the tank, which is easy to design out and annoying to live with. The receiver has a 1/2 inch outlet. Oil capacity is 1 gallon, so keep the correct fluid and a drain pan on hand.

Confirm the electrical supply before ordering. The description for this compressor offers 208-230/460 Volt 3 phase, while another spec field on the same record describes a single phase, 230 V class machine. Those two statements cannot both describe the unit that arrives on your dock, and we are not going to resolve it by choosing the more likely one. Ask us to confirm the phase and voltage against the exact build, and have your electrician confirm the building's supply, before the order is placed.

Air delivery is also absent from the table below, deliberately. The figure in our record is not stored in a form that establishes its unit, and a CFM number is precisely the specification a buyer sizes pipework and tooling around. We will read it off the factory data sheet on request.

Perfect for

  • Space-constrained shops where the wall is already spoken for by benches, racking or lifts.
  • Compressor closets and plant corners, where a compact footprint decides whether the machine goes indoors.
  • Finishing and packaging work that benefits from low oil carryover and continuous, pulse-free delivery.
  • Occupied buildings where a slow-turning, belt-free machine is easier to live beside.

Certification, stated plainly

Our product record holds no third-party safety listing for this compressor and no pressure vessel stamp for its receiver. That describes the state of our data and nothing else. If an insurer, a local inspector or a workplace safety audit requires a named listing or stamp, tell us which one and we will verify it against the factory documentation before you place the order. We are not prepared to imply a mark this page cannot evidence.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, contiguous United States. Around 695 lbs on a pallet is well past what any parcel service will accept, and freight is quoted live at checkout for the address you give rather than averaged.

Unloading is the customer's responsibility, so have a forklift rated above the shipping weight ready or select terminal pickup and collect it yourself. Note that a tall, narrow crate is worth extra care coming off the trailer. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, which the checkout quote will show before payment. Inspect before you sign: look for a leaning or damaged crate, bent tank feet, a broken gauge, torn wrap or fluid on the deck, and put anything you find on the bill of lading in writing, with photographs. A clean signature closes the argument in the carrier's favour.

Warranty and support

Warranty terms and the claim process are on our warranty claims page. Do not dismantle the airend, the motor or the panel before a claim is opened, because a component that has already been apart is the most common reason a legitimate claim is declined. Report it, have it documented, then act on instruction.
