BelAire 6312V Iron Series: one compressor, either three-phase voltage

Three-phase buildings are not all wired alike. Some run at 208V, some at 230V, and a compressor bought for the wrong one is a return, a restocking argument and weeks without air. It is a genuinely common mistake, because the difference is invisible until an electrician puts a meter on the panel.

The 6312V removes that decision from the purchase. It is specified as a dual 208-230V three-phase machine: it wires into either your 208V or your 230V 3-Phase system without a different part number, a different motor or a change of order. If your building's exact three-phase voltage is something you would have to go and check, this is the model that means you do not have to check it first.

Around that motor sits a 10-HP Iron Series package — a solid cast iron two-stage pump delivering 35 CFM at 100 PSI and 32 CFM at 175 PSI, on a vertical ASME certified tank.

Automotive-style rod bearings and wrist pins

This is the detail worth understanding, because it is unusual to see it stated at all. Many piston compressors in this class run the connecting rod directly on the crank journal and the wrist pin directly in the rod eye — metal running in metal, with oil as the only intermediary. The 6312V uses automotive-style rod bearings and wrist pins instead: the same approach an engine takes, with proper bearing surfaces designed to be the sacrificial part.

The practical consequences are smoother running, less noise from the bottom end, and wear that concentrates in components intended to wear rather than in the crankshaft. On a machine expected to run for years in a working shop, that is a design decision with a service life attached, not a marketing line.

The pump is two-stage: air is compressed once, cooled, then compressed again in a smaller cylinder. That is how it reaches 175 PSI without the pump running hot, and it is why two-stage machines dominate wherever air is needed all day rather than in bursts. Solid cast iron construction keeps the bores true under sustained heat, where lighter cylinder materials distort and start passing oil.

Reading the two output figures

A compressor's air delivery only means something with a pressure attached to it, which is why this one is quoted twice: 35 CFM at 100 PSI, and 32 CFM at 175 PSI. Match the figure to how you actually work. Most air tools are rated at 90 to 100 PSI, so the first number is the one that describes a normal working day. The second tells you what is still available when you are running at the top of the machine's range.

Will It Fit?

  • Supply. 3-Phase, at either 208V or 230V. Confirm which your building runs at before the electrician quotes, even though the compressor will take either.
  • Circuit. BelAire do not publish an amp draw or a breaker size for this model — their specification says to consult a certified electrician, and that is the right answer for a 10-HP three-phase motor. Do not size a circuit from a figure found elsewhere.
  • Starter. A magnetic starter is specified as part of the machine.
  • Floor and ceiling. 42" long by 30" wide, standing 74" high. It is a vertical machine, so it buys back floor area against a horizontal tank of similar volume — but check the 74" against any low ductwork, and leave headroom to service the pump.
  • Weight. 830 lbs. Plan the route from the truck to the final position, and how it will be stood upright, before delivery day.
  • Air around it. Leave clearance for cooling airflow and for reaching the belt guard and drain.

Site preparation, ventilation, electrical work and permits are the customer's responsibility. Ask us before ordering and we will confirm any published figure against BelAire's documentation.

Perfect For

  • Three-phase shops that do not yet know their exact voltage. The reason this model exists.
  • Multi-bay automotive service. Continuous demand at 100 PSI across several tools.
  • Fabrication and light manufacturing. Two-stage cast iron on a large vertical reserve.
  • Fleet and municipal workshops. Where three-phase is already in the building and downtime is expensive.
  • Anyone replacing a single-stage machine that cannot hold 175 PSI.

What's in the Box

  • Solid cast iron two-stage pump with automotive-style rod bearings and wrist pins
  • 10-HP dual 208-230V three-phase motor with magnetic starter
  • Vertical ASME certified air tank with ASME safety valve
  • Start / stop pressure switch controls
  • Fully enclosed high-flow belt guard
  • Manual air tank drain
  • Oil sight glass and pressure gauge
  • 3/4" air outlet, rated to 175 PSI
  • 2 Year bumper-to-bumper factory warranty, with no additional purchase required

The tank drain on this model is manual, not electronic — draining is a job somebody has to remember to do, and doing it is what keeps the tank from rusting from the inside. No air dryer is fitted or included; BelAire recommend the CPXHT50 dryer, which is a separate purchase.

The tank size on this page is stated two different ways

Tank volume The product title, the manufacturer's description and the specification field all describe a 120-Gallon vertical tank. The feature list on this same page instead says the ASME tank and safety valve give an "80 gallon air reserve for big jobs or multiple users". Those two figures cannot both be right for one vessel, and we are not going to quietly choose the larger one because it sells better. If tank volume is decisive for you — and on a compressor it often is, because reserve volume is what stops the motor cycling — ask us in writing and we will have BelAire confirm the vessel size before you order.

Certification, stated honestly

ASME is the certification this product's data records, and it applies to the parts that contain pressure: the tank is an ASME certified vessel and the relief device is an ASME safety valve. On a machine holding 175 PSI in a commercial building, that is normally the first thing an inspector asks to see.

No listing by an independent testing laboratory for the electrical assembly as a whole is recorded anywhere in this product's data. That is a distinct approval from a distinct body and a tank certification does not imply it. Whether you need one depends on your insurer, your local electrical inspector and any workplace safety scheme you operate under. Establish that before purchase — it is a cheap question now and an expensive one at final inspection.

Shipping and delivery

Freight, to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout against the address you enter. Decide in advance how it comes off the trailer: forklift, loading dock, or collection from the carrier's terminal. Residential deliveries carry an additional fee, added and displayed at checkout. Look the crate over before signing, and put any damage on the bill of lading in front of the driver — after a clean signature, recovering for freight damage is close to impossible.

Warranty

This model carries a 2 Year bumper-to-bumper factory warranty and BelAire's warranty document is linked on this page as the governing version — no extra purchase is needed to have it. Protect it the obvious way: if a component fails, photograph it in place, leave it assembled, and talk to us before anything is dismantled. A part taken apart before it has been assessed is usually a part that is no longer covered, regardless of what caused the failure.
