BelAire 6061V — 3.5 HP Single-Stage, 60 Gallon, Cast Iron Pump

The 6061V is the entry point to the BelAire vertical range, and the honest way to describe it is by what it is rather than by what it is near. It is a single-stage machine: air is compressed once and goes to the tank. That is why its ceiling is 135 PSI, below the two-stage models in the range, and why it carries a 1-year warranty where they carry two. What it does keep from the bigger machines is the part that decides longevity — a solid cast iron pump, belt driven, rather than the aluminium pump usual at this size.

Output is 14.6 CFM at 40 PSI and 12.4 CFM at 100 PSI on a 60 gal vertical ASME tank, from a 3.5 HP single-phase motor, and the whole machine weighs 261 lbs.

Single-Stage: What You Gain and What You Give Up

A single-stage pump compresses air in one movement and sends it straight to the tank. A two-stage pump compresses it twice with a cooler in between, which is what allows the higher maximum pressures. The practical consequences of the single-stage design are worth stating plainly rather than leaving you to infer them:

  • Lower maximum pressure. 135 PSI is the ceiling. Ordinary air tools are specified well below that, so it is ample for them, but a tool with a high working-pressure plate is out of scope. Check the plate, not the marketing.
  • More heat per unit of air. One compression step means the air arrives at the tank hotter, which is one more reason to drain the tank daily.
  • Fewer moving parts and a lower price. That is the trade, and for intermittent work it is a sensible one.
  • Duty is intermittent, not continuous. Feeding a sander or a blaster all afternoon is a job for a two-stage machine.

Will It Fit, and Will It Run?

The cabinet is 30" long and 22" wide, stands 68" tall and weighs 261 lbs, which makes it the smallest machine on this page and the easiest to place. Measure to the lowest obstruction above the intended spot rather than to the ceiling, and check the doorway on the way in. It belongs on a concrete floor.

The electrical supply is published two different ways, so settle it before you book an electrician:

Supply Source
208/230V, single phase The voltage spec field and the feature list, which calls it a dual-voltage motor
120/240 Volt AC, single phase The specification table and the product overview

Those are not the same wiring job. The recommended breaker is given as 30 amp and the amp draw as "consult a certified electrician". Ask us in writing which supply configuration your unit ships with before you have any circuit installed, and we will confirm it in writing against the factory sheet. Sizing and installing that circuit is the customer’s responsibility, and it is the one part of this purchase that is expensive to get wrong.

The Pump, the Tank and the Air

Cast iron is the reason to look at this machine rather than a big-box unit at a similar size. Iron pulls heat out of the cylinder and wears slowly, where an aluminium pump runs hotter and tends to be a sealed, unserviceable assembly. The drive is a belt, so the pump turns slower than the motor and the belt is a cheap consumable rather than a scrapped machine. Lubrication is splash — note that this model has no oil sight glass, unlike the two-stage models here, so checking the level is a fill-plug job rather than a glance. Put it in your maintenance routine.

The 60 gal vertical receiver improves the consistency of flow: the motor is not restarting every few seconds, and pressure at the tool stays steadier. There is no aftercooler, no dryer and no regulator fitted, so air treatment at the point of use is your plumbing to do. There is a tank drain and a discharge valve, and an ASME safety valve. One documentation note in the same spirit as the voltage: the tank outlet is recorded as 1/2" in one field and 1/4" in the specification table — confirm it with us before you buy fittings.

Perfect For

  • Home garages and DIY workshops that want a serviceable cast iron pump rather than a disposable one.
  • Light commercial use — tyre work, blow-off, impact tools, occasional spraying with proper air treatment.
  • Small footprints. 30" by 22" is a corner, not a bay.
  • Not for continuous-draw tools or for anything whose plate calls for more than this pump’s 135 PSI ceiling.

What’s in the Box

The compressor comes assembled on its 60 gal vertical tank: solid cast iron single-stage pump, belt drive, fully enclosed belt guard, start/stop pressure switch control, pressure gauge, air filter, ASME safety and tank valves, and the tank drain and discharge valve. No dryer, no regulator, no magnetic starter and no oil sight glass.

Certification, Stated Plainly

The tank and its safety valve are built to the American pressure-vessel code. That certificate covers the vessel — design, welding, inspection, relief valve — and it is not a third-party safety listing of the finished electrical machine. The two get conflated constantly. If an insurer, a landlord or a local authority has asked you for a listed assembly, ask us in writing before you order and we will answer in writing rather than guess on the phone.

Shipping and Delivery

Compressors of this size travel by freight truck within the lower 48 states rather than by parcel carrier. At 261 lbs and 68" tall this is the lightest machine in the BelAire vertical range. Your freight cost is quoted live at checkout against your own address. Delivery to a home address carries a residential fee; picking the machine up from the freight terminal yourself avoids it.

Decide how the crate comes off the truck before it arrives — that part is the receiver’s responsibility, so you want a forklift, a dock, or several people and a hoist ready. Inspect it with the driver while he is still there: shroud, belt guard, gauges, tank shell, and the pallet itself. Anything you find goes on the delivery paperwork before you sign. A note on the paperwork starts a freight claim; a clean signature usually ends one.

Warranty

This model carries a 1-year factory warranty for consumer and commercial use — shorter than the two-stage machines in the range, and stated here rather than left for you to discover. The document is on this page. If something fails, open the claim before you open the machine: the manufacturer is entitled to inspect the part as it failed, and a dismantled pump is the usual reason a valid claim is refused. Call us and we will start it with you.
