BelAire 318HLE: 7.5 HP of air without three-phase service
Most shops that want this much compressed air discover the same obstacle: the machines are three-phase, and their building is not. The 318HLE Elite Series exists for exactly that situation. It is a 7.5 HP, two-stage, 80 gallon compressor that runs on ordinary 1-Phase power at 208V or 230V, with the magnetic starter already fitted, so the only question you have to answer is whether your panel can carry a 60 Amp circuit.
That is the honest headline. There is no clever trick involved — single-phase motors at this size simply draw more current than their three-phase equivalents — but it means a shop with a standard service can run tools that would otherwise be off the table.
What it delivers
The pump is rated at 22.3 CFM at 100 PSI, with a maximum working pressure of 175 PSI. In practical terms that supports continuous work with air sanders, cut-off tools, impact guns and spray equipment, and it supports more than one person at a time — which is where the 80 gallon reserve earns its keep. A big tank does not make more air; it buys you time between the moments when the pump has to catch up, and it stops the motor short-cycling itself to death.
Two-stage compression is what makes 175 PSI reasonable. The air is compressed, cooled, and compressed again, so the pump reaches working pressure without the heat a single-stage design generates doing the same job. The cylinder carries a cast-iron sleeve, it is belt driven and splash lubricated, and an oil sight glass means checking the level takes a glance.
Will it fit, and will it run?
Power first, because it is the part that stops projects. This unit wires into a 208V or 230V single-phase supply and BelAire lists a 60 Amp breaker for it. Sixty amps of single-phase is a real load — it is the kind of circuit that needs to be planned rather than found. Have a licensed electrician confirm your service capacity, size the conductors and set the disconnect before delivery day. Wiring, permits and inspection are the customer's responsibility.
Space: this is the horizontal-tank model in the 318 Elite range, meaning it is designed to be long and low rather than tall, which is the layout you want in a building with a low ceiling or a mezzanine over the machine. Exact dimensions for this unit are covered in the note below, and we would rather you asked us than measured off a spec sheet we do not fully trust. Whatever the final figures, the compressor needs a level floor that will carry it, clear air around the pump and belt guard, and a clear path from where the truck can stop to where the machine will stand.

Built for the long haul
The tank is ASME rated with a safety valve, and it carries a manual drain. Draining condensate is the one maintenance task that decides how long a tank lives, and the manual valve makes it a deliberate act rather than something you assume is happening. The belt guard is fully enclosed and high-flow, protecting the belt and the operator without trapping heat around the flywheel. Start/stop pressure switch control means the compressor manages its own cycling, and an aftercooler drops the temperature of the discharge air so a useful share of the moisture condenses at the tank instead of downstream at your tools.
For anything moisture-critical — paint, plasma, air-driven electronics — a dryer is still the right answer. BelAire suggests the CPXHT25 alongside this unit; it is not included.

Certification, stated plainly
The tank and safety valve are ASME rated. That is a pressure-vessel standard and it is the correct one for the part of this machine that stores air under pressure; it says nothing about the electrical assembly. BelAire's data for this model does not claim a third-party North American electrical safety listing, and we are not going to imply that it does. If your insurer, your fleet policy or a local inspector requires listed shop equipment, ask us what documentation ships with the unit and get the answer in writing before you order.
Shipping and delivery
Freight, palletised, to the lower 48 states. Unloading is the customer's job: a forklift, a dock, or a pallet jack on flat hard ground. Where that is not possible, terminal pickup is usually the easier route and we will help you arrange it. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, quoted with your shipping at checkout.
Inspect the unit before signing the delivery receipt. Look at the gauge, the belt guard, the motor and the tank, and record any damage on the paperwork with the driver still present. A clean signature turns a straightforward freight claim into an uphill fight.
Warranty
The listed cover is a 2 Year bumper-to-bumper factory warranty with nothing additional to purchase. The warranty document supplied with the machine is the governing text, so read it when the compressor arrives. And do not disassemble the pump, motor or electrical box before opening a claim — inspection comes first, and taking a component apart beforehand is the most reliable way to lose cover you were entitled to.
